    Peter, this Port Charlotte is absolutely one of my favourites for a peated scotch whisky!! I am right along with you on thoughts which is the norm! We seem to enjoy a lot of the same whiskies! That's cool!! I am so appreciative of your look at the history! It's important! So wonderful, comprehensive and very enjoyable! I find this beauty to be delicious and it's a steady expression on our bar!! I hope being back at work after spring break is going well! Hey it will be summer break soon! Have an awesome day!! Hope your family are doing well! Cheers! 🙂

      Family is doing well. We are getting ready for my mom's celebration of life event in April. I am sure that will be rough, but we will manage the best we can. I am certainly looking forward to summer. It can't get here fast enough. Cheers!

      @@whiskeyisajourney Yes your mom's Celebration of Life will be very emotional Peter. I remember my mom's so well. It wasn't very long go. My dad died in 91. Being a close connected family helps but loss is so painful. I am sending much care for your whole family. Keep summer on your mind! It will help with some of the healing to have some time off. Peace Peter. I sure understand.

    Great review Peter. I have a couple of peated bottles on the go so haven't opened the Port Charlotte 10 yet but those notes sound typical of PC bottles. Having the Ardbeg, Lagavulin and Taliskers over the last couple of years, I wanted to expand my experience into peated releases of Bruichladdich. This was on the radar for a while so I grabbed it when opportunity finally arrived. I look forward to trying it in the future.

    Bruichladdich is probably my favorite distiller. In Port Charlotte I have the standard 10, the PMC:01 2013, and the PAC:01 2011, all have been very good. Then there is the Bruichladdich 18 or the Octomore series which is for a different Journey 🍷. I have never had Black Art, a bit $$$$. Thanks for another great one in the series Peter!

      I saw Black Art one time on the shelf here in Phoenix. There were 3 of them. I left the store without buying one. I changed my mind and went back the next day and they were all gone. Missed opportunity, but saved some money.

      @@whiskeyisajourney There are three around where I live at two different stores, $600+ for two of them and $800ish for the other. Just more than I am willing to spend right now.

    Great, great review as usual Peter. Probably one of the best affordable, available heavily peated Islay single malts available today. We ALWAYS have a bottle on the shelf.

      Based on all the comments so far, this is a crowd favorite. I might have to throw it into my peated scotch finals on Friday as an honorable mention. Cheers!

      It's a hard bottle to beat. The flavors coming out of the bottle are nice and balanced. Cheers!

    Port Charlotte has been one of my favs for years. What hurts are their prices but pretty much if a special release of there’s comes out I’m buying. The only issue I’ve had are with their corks. I’ve been experienced them fail in transport. I’ve opened the tins and could smell the peat.

    • @whiskeyisajourney
      @whiskeyisajourney  10 місяців тому

      I've had the same issue with the cork. Although if I keep it wet it seals a little better, but still not great. Cheers!

    Another good video!
    What I find interesting is that I prefer a bit of water in it. I'd give it max. 4 Stars without water. But definitely 4,5 with water

      I might have put too much water in during the review. I'll play with the amount and see if it changes. Still a solid pour either way.

    Port Charlotte is a different kind of smokiness, a great whiskey. I like it a lot and I think the same, better without water. Great review Peter, best regards.

    One of my favourite peated of all time. Right up there with Kilchoman. First time was in 2016, got one in Germany on my way home from tour. I only picked it up because it was not available at home, and was not stupid money. I didn't even think I was going to like it. Spoiler... I did like it.

    Peter, a very nice review. I have past by Port Charlotte many times thinking is was too peaty for me. But now, I wil give it a try.
    Thanks for the movie suggestion. Something to look for. Another movie, while not a documentary, but very entertaining is “The Angel's Share“. A movie in English with subtitles due the thick Scottish brogue. Cheers!

    How does this compare to Lagavulin 16 which is as high as I go with peat so far. What’s the PPM for this bottle. I know some heavily peated are in the 65-75 PPM for peat. Great review and I’m going to watch this movie. I’m into history and scotch certainly has a history. Same with the whiskey industry in America. Enjoy!!

    • @whiskeyisajourney
      @whiskeyisajourney  10 місяців тому

      40ppm is what I found for the Port Charlotte 10. Doesn't sound like much and it looks to be comparable to Lagavulin at 35ppm. I highly suggest the documentary. Cheers!
