Thank you for the amazing footage. There was a period in time a few years ago when I did not see her on the St Clair river. Now she makes frequent trips this way. Hope you have a speedy recovery. Be safe and healthy.
Great video, Kevin! I get to see this lovely lady several times, and last summer, as I was on my way back to Green Bay on my 22 footer, I met ALPE NA on her way out. I called him on 16, asking if a one whistle salute was ok. Not expecting an answer, he acknowledged the passing, and as we did, an officer came out of the pilot house, giving me a big wave. That's the connection that those that sail on the big boats, acknowledge those that have small craft have! A salute, a wave and a safe trip!
Thanks for sharing. Nice shots. During the winter season I keep our sailboat at The Boat Yard on the west shore of the river. I see the Alpina often. A beautiful ship. Glad to learn her history. Thanks again for sharing
Thanks for posting, and your determination to get video of her! Down here in SE Michigan we see a lot of her in the past couple of years, she brings concrete for the Gordie Howe Bridge being built over the Detroit River. She's truly awesome 🤩.
Great video. I wanted to see the Alpena for years, our paths just never crossed. That was until a couple of years ago, I had to wait a few hours to see her and I wasn't disappointed. She's a beauty. I've gotten to see her at least 4 other times since.
I’ve seen the Alpena coming in Green Bay most of the times since September that it has came. It’s really fun catching her going right past the boardwalk when it’s sunny. Awesome video. Absolutely one of my favorite lake freighters. Her and Kaye E Barker
Great video Kevin ! I now live in Wrightstown , but lived in Green Bay till 1978 when I got married . I have a good friend who docks his boat at the Green Bay yacht club , and we would go there to watch the boats arrive and leave Green Bay . Your drone footage sure gives a different perspective of what the Fox River looks like from the air ! Thanks again for sharing your videos !
Hey Kevin. Fantastic video on one of my favourite lakers. You have a great narrator's voice. Reminds me of Lorne Greene and his series "Lorne Greene's New Wilderness." The Alpena and the Sykes , for me, are the two prettiest lakers still sailing.
The SS Alpena is a beautiful ship! I think she’s the oldest ship and service on the Great Lakes other than the Anderson and I think she’s about 73 years old
Enjoyed this video. New to freighter watching. I've been lucky enough to see the Alpena only once and that was by accident. I wasn't actively watching freighters yet.
Thanks for capturing a wonderful chapter in Great Lakes maritime history. Your drone footage is excellent, your knowledge likewise, and your narration professional grade. Just one suggestion: Put away the serrated knife... use a smooth sided chef's knife and keep it sharp!!!
Enjoyed your video Kevin, the Alpena is definitely a favorite, i have an enlarged pic of her on my kitchen wall that i took on the Detroit River, i know what you mean about those sketchy areas , my concern would be to have the drone airborne and then have to deal with an unwanted situation.
When you get to a hospital and can somehow mention a possible "heart" issue at that time also - it usually will get you to the front of the line! Otherwise, thanks again for the great video.

I've only seen the Alpena once (other than videos) and it was love at first sight!! Now, thanks to you, I know her history and I am awed! Thank you!
Beautiful cinematography!!
Wonderful video. I loved the night photos, seeing her adorable spotlights!

She is a beauty. I love her stack and her steam whistle. Thanks for this video.
You never cease to amaze me Kevin. Excellent all around….. this one in particular had me feeling your emotions! Talk about drawing in the viewer! 🤣
I'm so excited she's here in Cleveland!!! Wooo hooo!
Thanks for the great video!
The night shots of the Alpena were gorgeous. I hope you catch the Cobia when it’s towed to Bay Ship for restoration. Two WWII era vessels.

Thanks Kevin, great production. Glad to hear the Alpena is heading for Cleveland, I may be able to see her.
Great video as always. Keep up the good work!
You have a wonderful voice. Great video, beautiful ship.
Oh just noticed your watch, it always makes me happy to see not a smart watch.
Stay frosty my friend

Next time you’re in Green Bay stop at Al’s restaurant on Washington Street for a burger.you drove right by it and they have good burgers
Would you like pics of her laid up? She’s docked in the flats over here in Cleveland
Kinda sad that you can't go about the city without trouble.

She’s been in Buffalo recently
with all that concrete mix, and riding on millions of gallons of water . no thanks, i think i'll drive..
