I have a daughter that was born 2 days after Christmas & a husband with a Dec. 18th birthday. We always celebrate their half birthdays too. It make it more fun for those born in December when life is a little more hectic. Happy Birthday to Jim.
my husband and I just drove from Oregon to the tip of Baja Mexico (we do this 2 x /yr)...we always travel with hotel meals...generally dinner and a snack, breakfast if one isnt included in the hotel stay. One issue we ran into is that 1 of our standard hotels (Wyndam/Days Inn just outside of LA in LeBec) had removed the fridge, coffee maker and microwave from all their hotel rooms. The staff didn't know why, we decided either survey showed too few people used them, or were breaking them or stealing them. They did have access to one microwave and hot water in the lobby however no refridgerator... Another Wyndam/Days Inn (in RedBluff CA) we stayed in actually had a list of charges, your hotel room would be charged, for missing items...including: coffee pot, microwave, fridge, remote, towels, even the cheap plastic ice bucket... it was very strange. So... we will now begin traveling with our little camping stove set up to heat our personal freeze dried dinners...we bring popcorn as a snack but we'll need to rethink that. We also have a fridge in our car, when moving it charges on the electric and when parked (over night) it runs off propane...life saver. Question...do you carry your own water for use? or do you use tap? or tap and filter? we bring ours in a couple 5 gallon containers, we do travel into Mexico so tap is out of the question...we do carry bleach as a water purification back up too.
Thank you for sharing this information--very valuable. We are so spoiled with our great tap water at home that we do travel with water. We just had a response from a hotelier with their perspective on people cooking in rooms. We will be presenting that on Saturday. She had some thoughts that may explain why those appliances were removed from rooms.
Look forward to learning how the hotel meals work out. Happy birthday Jim and merry Christmas to you all.
Same to you! We will definitely report on that coming up soon!
All that prep makes a vacation a real vacation...and can make staying home kind of a vacation, too.
You are right about that!
Hotelier here. Some thoughts to share. #1 Small appliances are fire hazards and many hotels will not let you use them in your room. Also, cooking smells can sometimes be a problem. #2 Hot water is usually available in the lobby where the coffee is served. #3 Please don't wash your dishes in the bathroom sink. It will clog the drain #4 Many hotels have electrical systems that can not handle instapots, induction plates, toaster ovens, etc. If you must plug something in, use the GFI circuit near the sink. Don't try to microwave and use something other appliance at the same time. #5 DO NOT tamper with the smoke detector/carbon monoxide detector, it's there for your safety. #6 Please do not try any of those ridiculous "hotel room dining hacks" where you attempt to use the iron, hair dryer, or coffee maker to cook your dinner.
Things I do recommend: #1 Small propane grills that you can use away from the building and cars. Our city ordinance is a minimum 50 feet from both. #2 Freeze dried things would be super easy because of the availability of hot water in the lobby. #3 The plastic dishpans that are used for camping are a must for cleaning up your dishes. Just don't put food down the drain. #4 take dish soap and a scrubber with you. Please don't use the hotel towels. (this happens often and it's really frustrating) #5 crockpots don't pull a ton of power and you can get liners that make clean up a breeze. Don't leave it unattended and you probably won't have a problem.
I could seriously write the book on this topic. We've had long term guests over the years that perfected hotel room dining without causing issues and we've had people that have nearly burned the hotel down. I'm afraid to say I've seen it all but I've got to be close.
Thank you so much for your response. You suggestions are extremely valuable and I hope everyone reads them! I have made a copy of your post that I will also present in a future video. You are wonderful!!!
Not all hotels have microwaves since Covid.
Merry Christmas Pam and Jim. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and discoveries with all us. May your Christmas be filled with joy, love and good health! 🎄🎅💖
Because I use freeze dried meals when I go away from home I purchased a small foldable silicone kettle on amazon for about 10$. I also keep a metal coffee cup in my bag for drinks and re constituting meals.
I don't trust foldable silicone. I once had a colander break when full of fruit. I was prepping for a wedding the next day!
Great idea!! Thanks for sharing.
We love taking our instapot when we travel. I take things frozen in our cooler, we get ice at the hotel. Thinking now we will take our freeze dried soups and use bottled water to reconstitute there
Sounds great!
I can’t think of any hotels in the uk that has microwaves
In them. Tea making facilities? Yes. self contained flats/rooms? Yes. Hotels?? Pizza! X😊
I am so excited for your new cookbook! Merry Christmas to you both and thank you for all you do! You are such an inspiration.
Thank you! You too!
I love this so much. Thank you for sharing!
You are so welcome!
Merry Christmas to you also!
Hotels always have coffee makers for hot water but our last hotel did NOT have a microwave. Also, eating for me is an experience, I suggest taking the food along to a special spot to enjoy. Best of luck in your travels!
Bring your own dish soap! A lot of hotel maids use the same cleaning towel from bathroom to kitchenette to bathroom to kitchenette.
Thanks. And yes, dish soap will be in our travel kitchen box for sure!
Enjoyed the video :-)
Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year ✨️
Thank you! And to you as well.

When we travel to visit family down south, we're in New England, I take my breakfast oatmeal with me and heat it in the microwave at the hotel or when we stay with family. I also make up a batch of my steel cut oats the way I like it so that I can cook it when I need more. My husband doesn't eat breakfast, so I make his sandwiches the night before so that he can eat them when he's hungry.
I'm looking forward to buying your latest book when it goes on sale 😊.
Merry Christmas to you both.
Same to you! Thank you!
Merrr Christmas and early Happy Happy Birthday wishes Jim. I need to rewatch this good ideas. Daughter has surgery in future. 5 - 7 days in hospital then feeding tube for 8 weeks. But i will be needing meals at hospital and then when we get home. Great ideas for me so better get busy to take these with me to save money as I stay with her at hospital. I have been worried as what to eat it's so expensive and not always nutritious.

Such a wonderful video. Thank you for sharing, and all the recipes and information that you give out is just simply wonderful.
You could also have thermos on hand with hot water to reconstitute your Italian zucchini soup and chili as you’re driving or even when you first get to your hotel room and it would stay nice and hot and warm in your thermos.
Again, always looking forward to your videos. You all have a merry Christmas.

@@trailgrazers3690 Thank you!! ❤️💚
I love this! I have lots of freezer soups that I’ll definitely take camping this summer. Lightbulb moment on helping to keep cooler cold even though I have a good one. 🙏
Glad you liked it!
I have cleaned out my big chest freezer and reorganize it I have used bins and boxes so I can get to the things on the bottom by just picking up the boxes to get to what I need. These meals will be good to take along in a motor home or camper when we travel my refrigerator is usually packed full, take along frozen meals would free up space in refrigerator freezer. Thank you for these ideas and we hope you and Jim have a very Merry Christmas be safe and May God Bless, from our home to your. ❤❤❤
That's a great idea! Thank you for sharing.
Merry Christmas every -one.. Happy birthday Jim ... Lochness Scottish Highlands..
Thank you, Neil!
Good ideas! It is so expensive to eat every meal out when traveling.
It really is!
Love your videos. Looking forward to seeing your hotel room meals. When does the book sale start? It’s not showing the discount when i add them to my cart? Merry Christmas to you both xoxo
Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday to Jim! one question...when you travel with your Joytutus refrigerator/freezer do you leave it in you vehicle or take it to your hotel room? I am guessing it could be heavy once you fill it.
That would be great, but till the nation finds SANE again, ILL STAY HOME, DEAR ONES❤
I imagine there will always be some degree of risk no matter what. Thanks for your comment.
@trailgrazers3690 Thats true, but I'm not going anywhere not essential this coming year! Have a wonderful Christmas
Is there a recipe for your Italian zucchini soup?
It is in the Nutrient Dense Meals book in our bookstore.
