Great video as always Steeve! Well presented. I find amazing the different skill sets you have. IT, mechanical, electric, welding, vid maker, and on top of all still multiple languages….😮
Thanks Terry, I used to race motorbikes on the track in the late 70's and early 80's. Then I got married, kids etc.. so I stopped at the age ( now) of 60 I started all over with racing ( historical). Never to old , only to late
Thank you, to be honest speed is or was not my top priority. Driving the correct lines and steering is what matters to me first. Happy to see that you spotted that. Speed will come later on the straights.
As always very nice video! Lots of interesting stuff to learn about racecars. Love your video format and unique style, keep up the good work. And may i add you have my upmost respect for your racing skill!
Great series! Im buying a 1970 Formula vee in a week, so this was good inspiration for race preparation:) would be fun to come down and race down there some day.
@@D3Sshooter i rented one a few years back for a race and got hooked. The grids for vintage vees are massive up here. If you've been at vintage formula events on the continent the last 25 years you might have seen the car, thats where it spent a few decades with a finish driver, i think he stopped in 2019 or so because he hot sick. keep the good work up with the channel, its a bit niche but that is what makes it so good 👍😊
Yes indeed that double turn just over the hill is where Gilles crashed and died. In fact that double turn carries his name and we all know it... Its a very difficult turn and also obstructed by the hill just in front... On 21 May we drive in Zolder, I will mention it in the Video about Gilles.
Car is looking very will prepared as always. A friend races a FF2000 in the UK, it's apparently worth paying attention to worn valve guides as seemingly it can result in the valve stems breaking. Enjoy the next outing!
Hi Steve, did you install the brake pads without brake paste ( 2:50) for the back of the pad? Don't they start making noises when braking? I always use the brembo b-quiet paste for all vehicles, including the high-powered ones. Great video :))
Nice job. Good to see a race car brought up to speed. You’re a tech guy, I’ve seen racing videos that have track location, rpm, speed, g’s, etc. included on the video. Might be something to add to your videos plus it is information for you. Good catch on the rims. Wonder how many went out check theirs after this.
Thanks Craig, as this was a shakedown I did not use a transponder or GPS tracker. I will on the next run in Zolder as it is great aid to have and learn from it.. Although I have to admit that the mechanical preparation and work is as much or even more fun then driving.. Many people told me that race car mechanics make bad pilots.... And it is through, I think all the time on the movements of the engine while on the track... But still enjoy it...
Congrats on a successful shakedown. Have you ever tried Water Wetter? It's a non slippery water additive approved for where anti-freeze is not, excellent stuff. Have you shot blasted the painted wheels with the slicks to confirm they're not cracked. Is it really necessary to change oil after only 80 min. of modest run time. Looking forward to nest race.👍
Hi Rick, thank you for the comments. No I did not trie water wetter ( will need to check that out... txs) . I did shot blast the rims with glass beat ( no so aggressive) so that the paint was off and I had a good view on the state of the Magnesium as it is wel known to age poorly. In terms of oil , I do change it after 120 minutes ... maybe a bit to late , much depending on how it was driven... Here I did not push it all the way
@@D3Sshooter Is 120 min the recommended change routine for that race oil? Do you do any after use analysis of the oil such as for metal particulate and such.
Its fast... much faster then the konig I drive or the track MGB GT ... Grip is through seat and steering, its an overall sense that it sticks to the tarmac. Steering is the main thing, as it goes where it is pointed at. Now over or understeer so far... Of course , I did not push it to the limit yet...
Is inderdaad 21. Bedankt voor het commentaar.
Steve, couple of points. Get yourself a HANS device and some arm straps. Your neck and arms will thank you if you crash. If you want to know how to change ratios, my video may help. ua-cam.com/video/7V097lJ1Z1g/v-deo.html You suggested you were using the clutch when on the track. It’s recommended that you don’t. All you do in using the clutch is wear out the dogs and clutch and have slower changes.
Grahame, thank you for the comments... I do have a HANS, you might spot the attachment on the Bell helmet. But as you remarked very well , I did not have the shoulder piece on. Arm straps I don't have.... Now note that this was not a competition drive, it was a shakedown on the actual historical competition the part that you refer to will be used.. Thanks for pointing this out to the viewers... Yes, at the end I did no longer use the clutch, only on N to 1 ( no other choice ...lol) and 1 to 2.... For the rest I went without several times .. Good point
Just looked at you video, I had seen it before but always good to check it again... P.S , I also subscribed to your channel... Just a shame we life so far appart..
