Those Astra H 4 speed autos can be a world of pain. The Auto oil cooler is part of the radiator, and the factory radiators can fail as they get older. Which pumps coolant straight into the gearbox trashing it almost instantly. Been there, had that pain....
@@TheSaabClinicUK let’s hope this doesn’t happen to this one then! 130k miles and still drives absolutely brand new! I guess every car has an Achilles heel, just got to healthcheck the cars as best as you can!

To be fare the old Vauxhalls are quite solid cars. I had an old Astra Cdti estate 07 reg which I nearly scrapped as it needed a new turbo but I ended up trading it in at a Vauxhall dealership, they give me 750 for it, which started me on my journey of buying 3 yr old trade in Vauxhalls. Currently driving a 2018 top of the range auto Vauxhall estate, really pleased with this one so might keep it for another couple of years. You’ve got the making of a good channel there mate. I’ve subscribed and look forward to following your journey 👍
you're absolutely right, the old vauxhalls were bullet proof. My experience of the newer once is less positive, I have experinced quite a few electrical issues and they seem very sensitive - engine management light every other week! Thanks for subscribing, see you in the next one!

Very impressed with the paintwork bud, you made it look easy! I tried spraying a wing with an aerosol can and messed it up twice 😂 think ill stick to mechanics!! New sub 👍
@@joem8213 Thanks Joe, honestly the first 6 months, I think only one of the jobs I was actually happy with, 75% I re-did at least once and the other 25% I actually sent a paint shop to correct what I’d done! But I don’t regret sticking with it because now I save a fortune!
I have the same model Astra but mine's an Opel, also automatic. Never let me down, almost 20 years old now and I really need a newer car but the problem is that most affordable newer cars are prone to problems because they're so bloody complicated. I like your straight forward approach. It's an old car with a maximum price ceiling, so do what you can to make it look good and be reliable without breaking the bank. This should make a good daily driver for someone without breaking the bank.
Hey Lauren, I completely agree with you! I have a few cars, one of which is a 1999 VW golf mk4 1.9tdi and I can hand on heart say she has been far more reliable than any newish car that I’ve owned! Glad you enjoyed the video, don’t forget to subscribe and I’ll hopefully see you in the next one!
@Bensautoventures I too had an old Golf which at the time I ran on straight E85 Ethanol, no mods , no addatives.The German government were subsidising E85 (2/3 cheaper than normal petrol) and I was skint. No problems ran like a dream.😂

Good luck on your new you tube venture, hope you do great, the only question i have is at the start of the video the garage that the old owner took the astra to said it needed a cambelt kit and waterpump did it need it, and are you going to put these parts on, i know its only a cheaper vechicle but could be headache for you later when you sell on
We certainly did, the reason the gentleman was getting rid of the vehicle was because the water pump was leaking! In one of the upcoming videos I will be doing a run down of all the parts and work carried out on the vehicle to make sure it's absolutely spot on for the new owner. So make sure you're subscribed! If your painting make sure you leave the area as soon as you can and go to clean air ie outside.... you should have an air fed mask from your air line aswell that mask is no good your lungs won't last long that's 2 pack paint so just please be careful I spray wagons for a living

Ah great, where in Lincolnshire are you? I try and buy from the general public and other traders where I can but I buy a lot from Manheim too. I like how in depth the health checks are but it is a ball ache going to Rothwell to collect them!
@Bensautoventures Im Based On the outskirts of Boston. I use BCA and since COVID It's been a nightmare to buy good stock because it's all online. Since moving to the area I agree, traveling to collect the cars is a true ball ache, Hence I asked you where you bought your stock, hoping it was somewhere closer and better than BCA. @@jamiecharmer I used Newark motor auctions for a short while which was super convenient and I used to actually go and watch the cars go through but every other car had major issues so it wasn't proving economically viable. Same as yourself I just buy online now, luckily we have access to a beaver tail so we will go and pick a few up and once, but you still lose the best part of a day don't you? Tempted to have a look at buying from motorway or dealerway but I haven't got round to it yet!
@Bensautoventures Ive heard bad things about newark and the quality so can understand that. You are lucky to have access to a truck but tbh it is still a gamble buying online... dont know about manhiem but bcas reports are useless and they have the cheek to charge you for them and when you complain, they shrug there shoulders and say " sold as seen" lol I have also heard motorway can be the same but it still boils down to having to bid online then go to inspect the vehicle to find its a waste of time lol sourcing cars is a true art form. Years ago you could have a deal with a large dealer and have some nice p/x's but now they retail everything 👎
