Hey guys! I appreciate any feedback on this video format, and I'd also like to come up with a better name for the series... Hope you enjoy the video!
I really like the format! The title is pretty fitting actually. I don't think there is a need to change it :D
Dude this format is awesome. I'd be so keen on more of this!
The name is pretty fitting and this format is super cool!
How 'bout 'The Dean becomes the Student'
Awesome bro keep em comin!
"What time signature are we in!? Oh, we're in 4/4."
Welcome to modern metal: the most confusing 4/4 songs you'll ever hear.
The most relatable thing is his reaction to listening to the midi tab for the first time.
100 percent. Guitars arent even fun anymore
@@chromakey84 guitars are scary bro
@Joe Staveley agreed!!! Had that moment when I got down some trivium riffs! ( some of them are very wierd to play)
I can't wait to see what Dean refuses to learn next!
:)
Think what we all need is Dean learns any Jason Richardson song!
And Becker too!
I'd love to see him play the intro riff for Tendinitis!
Aviator solo. Just the first few bars are bananas
Naaaahhhh Misha and periphery music in general is waaaaayyy more talented than ANYTHING Jason has EVER played
I vote for that to!
I don't listen to Archspire much but this dude might be the coolest youtuber I've come across. No bullshit, no clown act. Way to go, man!
Most of the big metal musicians are super chill yet entertaining. Misha, Dean, Tosin, Jason Richardson, Taranto etc.
@@jakel7213 can't put my finger on it but tosin looks like a hidden douche. something about him seems pretentious and douchy, altho i cant say i wouldnt be if I played like that. dean seems like a cool no bullshit guy tho
@@ShellSmashed I don't know if Tosin is a douche or not. He does come off as conceited at times for sure. Especially when he is explaining his thumping technique. Then again, he may just be tired of explaining the same things over and over. It could be a plethora of things really. I do agree that Dean is an awesome guy. I love watching his videos.
Jake L lol .. misha can be a super douche .. he used to be a super dick on forums
I watch this guy and Matt Heafy all the time.
Meshuggah Forum shout out! I created and ran it for about 12 years (timdog). It was indeed an awesome place back in the day and introduced me to tons of bands and good friends. Especially cool to see Misha go from a young pup posting awesome bulb songs to Periphery and we've had the chance to meet up in person a couple times. Cheers!
The "Now playing" thread was a goldmine. Also I remember somebody posting about meeting Jens and asking why he stopped hanging in the forum, to which he replied "Those guys are all fucking crazy" xD Great times, cheers Tim!
NEXT VIDEO: Dean learns from Tobi, Archspire solos :v
Riffs atempts to learn:
Meshuggah- born in dissonance opening riff
I felt cocky so I attempted to just count it while listening to it, I quit 4 seconds in.
@@nostalcholy it's actually really easy. For U = upstroke and D = downstroke, the riff goes like this:
D + D + U
2xD + D + U
3xD + D + U
(4xD + D + U)x3
Repeat
Maybe the upstrokes are also downstrokes, i dont know how they actually play it, but this is the pattern
@@andreideaconu7232 fredrik and marten both play it like you just said, but it's definitely possible to do with just downstrokes. the riff isn't really that hard, it's just remembering the rhythm (this applies to a lot of meshuggah).
Dean: *Is able to play Remote Tumor Seeker intro riff*
Also Dean: I give myself an F.
MISHA JUST CASUALLY CHILLING WITH SENNHEISER HD 800S WTF
Yeeees?
But Dean...it's called Dean learns from the artist not Dean attempts to learn from the artist 👀
rofl
One simple but effective change
100% yes on this new format!! It would be really cool to see you attempt a riff/solo featuring something you see as a weakness in your playing in the future. Also, the Relentless Mutation tab book is making me slowly resent you 🤘
There's just something so satisfyinglu human about it that makes me want to pick up my axe and learn to play knowing that my "perfectionism" demon is sated.
I've been trying to learn involuntary doppelganger for like a month and I have gotten nothing but frustration. 😂
I'd literally watch you two talk for hours. Two of my favorite guitar players (must say I'm total Misha fanboy but love ya too Dean
I actually love this format! It feels a bit like a short podcast where you sit down with different artists and talk about their music.
Love this format!
this was amazing! Do many more please
Love the new format
Dean's like the evil robot from The Incredibles. He just keeps trying until he wins O_O
I can’t wait to watch this!!!!!!! 😍😍😍
Really enjoyed this. Can't wait for more. Love guitar nerd chats!
I would definitely love to see more videos like these, it's fun and interesting to hear you guys talk about band stuff
This episode is one of my favorites so far! Really liking this format.
This was awesome! Section flew by! Do some more for sure!
Awesome vid, Dean. Thanks for the awesome content. Was really refreshing to hear that you both experience many of the same roadblocks and frustrations that I do. Cheers!
Very cool. Hope this series goes far! Great first guest.
So excited 😁 👍👍
Loved this! I think having different guitarists on every so often and having conversations like this one would thrill the people.
I didn't even realize it was ending, what a great format to work to, its like a podcast, loving it
Hell yea! I suggested this solo about a month ago :D So happy this ended up happening
This was seriously just the video I needed to see, hearing about strengths and weaknesses in band scenarios was all too relatable. Thanks you guys!
Great stuff man! I suggested Blood Eagle to you a while back and it's awesome that you did it, you and Misha are beasts
Awesome, Dean! i really liked to find out some good information about that solo!
I love this conversation. I can't play anywhere near close to this, but really enjoy it.
This was awesome. I could have watched a 4 hour video with the two of you going back and forth. Great stuff Dean, Im really enjoying your content.
Great video, love the interview part
been binging quite a few videos of yours, but I've come back to this one more than once and I really enjoyed the chat about riff and songwriting you did here. Honestly would just adore a podcast-like video with misha, or other great musicians.
I would like to see more of misha on your channel, damn, you guys are amazing human being ✨
This is awesome. I get so frustrated learning from tabs. Its really great to see your process!
I'm so glad that I have subscribed I love watching your videos I sit and watch them for hours it's lots of fun you're my new favorite guitarist you are awesome thanks bro
Great format, good content man 👍. Especially having misha pop in I'm surprised you guys don't already know each other better. Def enjoy seeing somebody elses learning process though it helps to see.
Very fun video, liking the format and the video isn't too long. Also the Yoda voice alone was worth the price of subscibing
Please for the love of god do more of this! It’s awesome getting to know more about the other guitarists as well as your self. Kinda like a mini podcast 🤙
Hey Dean! Just bought the Archspire tab book just so I can learn your solo in Involuntary Doppelgänger. Hope you have a awesome day!
Dean, much love, man. I really think you should keep doing something like this with other guitarists, it would be a really good series.
This is one of my favorite solos. Absolutely insane and super cool. Unique. Been practicing it as a non-solo guy and it's DOABLE for me because of the logic underneath. Really cool that this video popped up!
Love the format for it Dean! Even with you guys not really talking about what you “attempted” to learn it was a really entertaining video and I’d have like it even longer with you guys both talking about your musical experiences and other things not strictly related to the pieces you were given
This is such a sick idea for a series!
Great stuff 💯👌
love this video style
I LOVED THIS VIDEO!!
Two of the best!!!
Dude, as someone who watches UA-cam a whole lot I can undoubtedly say your channel is without a doubt my favorite. No BS, real life learning and playing. It isn’t this flashy showy shit you see everywhere else and you are still more talented than most of them. This is refreshing and super dope
Also, gives me a shit ton of confidence in my own playing
Great interview.
Whar a great conversation! A podcast with you two could be amazing.
I don’t care bear much about sheet. I also don’t care about 15%. I do care about Henker: you are one of the few that maybe can comprehend and transcribe their work. I want Henker Tabs. I’m not gonna stop comments and I’m not gonna leave you alone until I see a legitimate Henker cover. Love you ❤️
100% agree on the frustrations of getting started. You've got all the DAWs to learn, which interface is best, do I go amp into interface or do I get VSTs, then of course you have to get GGD and learn how to route it properly and mix it properly, and then you record a full song but then you learn about quad-tracking after the fact so you have to retrack, but then you watch more mixing videos and learn that the static noise you hear is because one of your tracks is peaking, and...
Yeah. It's definitely a struggle, but it's definitely worth it and way easier now than it has ever been.
Love the video, Dean!
I need more of this type of content
Man, this was so cool!
That video was sick. You should do a lot more of it.
I don't know why yet, but watching you and Misha communicate about guitar together brings me immense joy. You need to do a Misha and Dean talk about music channel
This a great video idea!
I have no musical talent whatsoever but I'm a huge fan of the band and love these videos! Stoked to see you and Misha together in this too!
Very enjoyable 😊 Also the 8bit music gets me every time
Great video dean !
When he bashed Yoda’s voice, I was so sad for Frank Oz. Iconic.
You, Misha, and Tosin are absolutely *chef's kiss*
Oh man, I lurked on that forum, and SevenString for ages, I remember all these guys posting. I still try to get my friends into TesserecT, and Chimp Spanner.
I was a lurker on the Meshforum as well. It's crazy seeing how well Periphery & Tesseract have done after seeing the seed of those bands start there.
I should be doing my work but hey there goes another 20 mins. Blame quarantine not me!
Loved the video, I hope you keep on this track
this could have been 3 hours and i would've enjoyed every minute
How did we go from metal to voice acting yoda in literally 3 seconds
"Take it one bar at a time and dont overwhelm yourself" very important
Misha is such a great person and so down earth with us mortals
I like listening to you talk. I can't play any of the stuff you make videos on but I still love to watch your videos. I love writing music though and I get alot of inspiration from watching your videos and listening to Archspire. But the riffs I write are way less technical. I enjoy working on my playing though. Cheers!😃
I've been working on this since the day the tabs came out and he's playing it better than me in the first 2:50 hahaha this guy is a legend!
Big fan of the format! 🦐
Now we need to see a Misha learns Archspire video!
these are my fav bruh I only listen to soft jazz mostly but I keep coming back to ARCHSPIRE lol
This whole video was dope. I just wish the Misha/interview part was longer!
u should just start a podcast already, it´s so cool listening to these things (just like the meshuggah forum feeling)
monster riff machine. Can't agree more
Good stuff man. Love your content. My love for tech death came from your band
"Oh I got an idea for the voice: " UUEGHeughHH"
Meshuggah forums were a great way to find new bands. I remember being really impressed with misha’s meshuggah covers he did for new millennium cyanide Christ and sane. Chimpspanner was also a great find!
Chimp Spanner is amazing. Still waiting for new music 😭😭😭
I use Misha's Bare Knuckle Juggernauts in my Kiesel DC7X. So this is cool to see. Love this.
Damn. I love this episode
Man, I'd be so down to listen to a Podcast with Dean and Misha.
Dean Lamb, you re great at learning stuff. And if you watch the matrix, you look 99% like Cypher.
my 2 favorite people
Hey Dean, it would be really cool to see some podcast or jam session / video like this with some of the other Archspire dudes or just other cool metal people in general.
Watching your videos inspires me to pick up my guitar, put down my phone and just write and record at my home studio. BUT I HAVE TO GO TO WORK.....
I'd love to see misha be on an episode of the podcast you were doing, the both of you seem to bounce very well off each other
I skipped over your Sheet Happens sponsor spot so many times I didn't realize you have a discount code... I just bought your Bleed the Future bundle for full price...
I'm actually learing this solo as I watch this video
Hell yeah I thought y’all were in yalls high 30’s maybe but to hear 46-48! Hell yeah! That gives me a lot of hope, my dad is the same age as misha... I guess age is in the mind. Idk where I’m going with this or why I got happy about y’all being “old”, maybe because I’ll be there soon. It just makes me happy to see two of the people I look up to still doing the damn thing.
They were kidding homie lol. Misha is 35 and Dean is 32
Cool to hear 2 pros having a chat.
Me Learn Periphery's riffs : damn its hard, i give up.
Dean Learn Periphery's riffs : Doing absolutely great, but to make sure lets just call Misha right now!!
More Misha!
This was playing in background as I was tuning up and catching the little quip on Yoda's voice made me burst out laughing for real. 10/10 made me sub
