UK strikes: half a million workers demand ‘fair pay’

  • Up to half a million striking workers made today the biggest mass action in the UK since 2011.
    (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
With teachers joining picket lines, working parents across England, Wales and Scotland had to make alternative arrangements as many schools and colleges closed to most or all pupils.
Thousands marched in London, where the head of the TUC called on the Prime Minister to "get round the table and deliver on public sector pay".
As well as teachers, also on strike today were around 70,000 University staff from the UCU, some 100,000 civil servants from over 120 government departments and thousands of train workers from RMT unions, as well as some London bus services.

I'm so sick of these teachers, nurses, ambulance workers, railway workers, border controllers, doctors, postal workers, civil servants and driving test instructors. They clearly don't understand hard-working Brits, like hedge fund managers, political donors and millionaire tax dodgers... Those guys are the real heroes!
Will nobody think of the poor CEOs who can only afford four megayachts? Or the tragic case of the bankers who made billions betting against the pound? These selfish strikers clearly aren't thinking about the needs of the poor suffering in international tax havens throughout the world! For shame!

Further to this also the govt has all public sector workers over the barrel because unfortunately our actual culture is very lone wolf minded, and you can see by the woman complaining about her train being late etc. Due to how economies work there will always ideally be more private than public sector employees, If the govt ignore the strikers long enough and nurses, teachers etc are not doing their jobs and kids have issues or people die. The govt knows the public perception i.e the privately employees will turn against them eventually.

If they both work at different schools they'll probably have two cars already, draining the budget down to £21,000 and £51,000. The house they live in needs to have utilities as well, begetting a mealy £18,500 and £48,500. Paying for food results in £14,500 and £44,500, add on some misc stuff for council tax etc. and you'll see they would have about £9,000 and £39,000 for 3 people not including other siblings so, no they aren't living above their means they are barely scraping by as there's a multitude of costs I haven't mentioned. This is if they both work full time if one does and the other doesn't expect 2/3rd the salaries so that's £32,000 or £47,000 to live on and the average 3 person UK household spends around £35,000 per year.

    >> An England school teacher that's qualified starts as a newly qualified teacher with a teaching salary £28,000 to £34,502 according to the school location in England.
The median average salary for those working full-time is £33,000
The mean average salary for those working full-time is £39,966
That means that a teacher starting out in the industry is decently close to the median/average salary of UK and that's excluding further pay rises if they rise up the ranks... e.g they can if they're the head teacher (principal) £131,353 at the top of possibilities.
Apart from Unions just pushing for further pay rises since they benefit I would hazard to guess its living cost increases.

When you look at the difference in inflation over a 20 year period, you'll understand why. Your money goes nowhere. £20 is both a lot, and absolutely fudge all at the same time. £30k 20 years ago is currently worth half the amount. I last looked into this when we hit an 81% increase over the past 20 years (based on 2003), and this has since gone over 100%. The value of our currency has been halved within 20 years. That 30k you may have been earning back in 2003 was worth 54.3k last year, now over 60k. Current wages do not match this. Far from it.
You compare people's wages, and the actual value of the payslip today. It's no wonder why the UK is in a collapse, people are refusing to work for awful wages, all while the people benefitting from the poverty of others smile and crack on.
Suicide rates are soaring, people's wellbeing and health are at pivotal lows, and I'm seeing an awful lot of lying and theft here in London at the moment. (I'm hearing worse stories back home in Wales)
I dread to think of what the future holds for the youth here, as they're being taught this by the people desperate enough to put these motives into action.
There's a reason why it's happening. People are desperately struggling.
