@@GlenKellawayfromthebasement I love it. I like the melody, and the harmonies of Steve and Paul. I know that many Paul McCartney fans dislike Ebony and Ivory, but i like it for what it is. A good pop song with a very catchy tune. The reason for why i put "Tug of War" second on my list is because the excellent production from George Martin. It was Pauls best album for years. He sounds absolutely fantastic vocally, and the songs are really good. "Here today" "Tug of war" and especially "Wanderlust" are all songs that would have been a highlight on any Beatles album. Paul didnt rush this. He took his time, and came out with a really decent album that i belive sounds very good today. Me and a friend of mine sometimes get together and play vinyl. "Tug of war" is a favorite to play when we have vinyl nights.
@@GlenKellawayfromthebasement Well, many other people dislike it too. I think its a good track. It is not a classic, and it`s a cliche, but it works for me. But "Tug of war" is more than Ebony and Ivory. There are other and better songs on the album like "Wanderlust" and "Here today"
I have been a Paul McCartney skeptic since about 1963, when my best friend chose Paul and I chose John. In truth, during The Beatles, I didn't know who had fundamentally written what - they were all labeled Lennon / McCartney - and I was later shocked that songs I thought had been written by Lennon had been written by McCartney. Post-Beatles, Paul McCartney's songs seemed to be mostly sound happy-clappy lame, with 'Mull O'Kintyre' as the absolute nadir. (And, yes, John wrote some hideous nonsense too, mostly courtesy of Yoko.) Even recently, I skimmed through the supposedly best McCartney / Wings albums I was aware of, and they were all pretty meh. 'Uncle Albert' is a mess; 'Band on the Run' is a mess sandwich, albeit pretty; yeah, 'Maybe I'm Amazed' is fantastic, and 'Live and Let Die' is impressive. Then, over the last few days, the guy from Top 5 Records recommended 'Flaming Pie,' and that is a fantastic album, head and shoulders above anything I have ever heard of his, and poignant in that he wrote it will Linda was dying. So, I went for a nearby one, the 'Flowers in the Dirt' one written with Elvis Costello. I thought it was horrible years ago and I still think it's horrible. It's hard to believe how two such distinguished songwriters could produce such utter crap. It didn't disappoint me in Paul McCartney but it shocked me with Elvis Costello. I didn't know Costello could write a bad song. Anyway, like some idiot who says you have to give a sucker an even break, I shall trawl through all the McCartney albums in the hope I've missed something, but I fear I haven't and that 'Flaming Pie' will be the only McCartney album that is actually exciting rather than, "Oh dear, you again," as King Charles III famously said to Liz Truss, Britain's pitiful recent Prime Minister.
I have just looked up the billboard charts for Paul McCartney. After the 1982 'Tug of War,' that reached no.1 in both the US and the UK, until the 2018 'Egyptian Station,' no.1 in the US and no.3 in the UK, 'Flaming Pie' was by far the most popular album at no.2 in both countries. I don't know 'Tug of War' or 'Egyptian Station,' so the Beatle goes on ...
I've just listened to 'Wildlife' again. Much as I thought. There are two good songs on the album. Actually, the title track could be great - great musical theme, important message - but it is far too long and the vocals shriek like they are referencing Disneyland's idea of wild animals. Really? Then 'Dear Friend,' potentially another great song produced in what sounds like a melodrama delivered to an empty church hall. It absolutely lacks the cutting edge that should have delivered a powerful sentiment - a response to John Lennon. There very embodiment of a damp squib. So, with a lot more thought, two songs could have been stellar, but the rest are, frankly, unsalvageable. And this is one of McCartney's absolute best albums? I thought so. I love Mazzie, he's great, but the rains of Seattle must have attuned him to diluted gibberish from someone who should not have been throwing out any old tat at this stage in his development. Which isn't to say Paul isn't a lovely guy. But, oh boy!
Well done Glenn! 🎶☮️🎶

My top two favorites of Paul’s solo work is definitely flaming pie and off the ground. After that it’s pretty much a tossup.🥧
Awesome..Flaming Pie is great..
I need to revisited Off The Ground, it has been a long time since I listened to it..
@@GlenKellawayfromthebasement Not only do I really love off the ground as an album but it came out 4 months before I saw Paul McCartney in concert at giant stadium.☺️
Hello Glen, Hope you are having a good Sunday, I know what you mean about “Flowers In The Dirt” - I really like about 2/3 of it a lot, “Tug Of War” is another one like that, both of these albums narrowly miss my top ten. I’m about the only person seemingly that likes “Driving Rain”, lol - I’ve always loved “Red Rose Speedway”, it seems to finally be getting a little more love these days…. My top ten:
10. Wings Wild Life
9. Driving Rain
8. Ram
7. Chaos & Creation In The Backyard
6. Venus & Mars
5. Wings At The Speed Of Sound
4. Band On The Run
3. McCartney II
2. McCartney
1. Red Rose Speedway
I have no issues with Driving Rain either..was listening to it yesterday..I like your list👍👍❤️❤️Glen
Yes, I agree, Flowers is 2/3 of a good album. I made my own version using some single tracks and b-sides. Chaos never captured my attention. Some of it reminds me of the Rutles, but not as good.
Lol..The Rutles..Flowers could have been one of his greatest albums with a few changes..
Interesting list. My top 10 list would be:
1. Ram 10/10
2. Tug of war 10/10
3. Band on the run 9/10
4. Flaming pie 8/10
5. Chaos and creation in the back yard 8/10
6. Memory almost full 8/10
7. Run devil run 7/10
8. McCartney 7/10
9. Egypt station 7/10
10. London Town 6/10 (50% of the album is fantastic, the rest is crap)
Tug Of War is an album I like very much..except for Ebony and Ivory..a disappointing collaboration in my opinion.
@@yellyman5380 two of the greatest artists of all time should have come up with something epic..I was disappointed..
You left out Press To Play, I think it a great album.
(And, yes, John wrote some hideous nonsense too, mostly courtesy of Yoko.)
Even recently, I skimmed through the supposedly best McCartney / Wings albums I was aware of, and they were all pretty meh.
If Flowers in the attic has Elvis Costello on it I will avoid that album. I get nausea when I hear his voice. 🤢
