I was in Chu Lai from Oct. 1967 through Sept. 1968. Bob Hope came to see us Christmas 1967. Somehow I survived it all. God was watching over me ! Paul 🇺🇸
My dad was on hamburger hill with his guys. He came home but never talked about it. Best dad/hero a girl could dream of. His USMC dress cover sat on his dresser til the end. 🙌🏻
I was a Senior Navy Corpsman for a marine line company 2nd Marine Division. Welcome home all my forgotten brothers and sisters. It’s amazing how many people in the 1960’s wouldn’t give a vet the time of day. Now it’s “Thank you for your service” 🤔
Unfortunately vets, especially those that didn't make it, are being used to glorify the despicable business of war. Nothing the politicos like better than being on tv laying a wreath in memory of all those they were instrumental in killing. To them, it's just a photo opportunity. War makes money for these bstrds.
My dad, and all my uncles were in Vietnam. I was raised by a generation of traumatized vets who all had the demons, struggles with drugs, alcohol, violent outbursts. My dad is still alive (82) and has only just started talking about his experiences (at my urging). I know it's something that weighed heavily on him and we both hope and pray that one day, we can experience a time on earth with no war. I'm glad they had the medicine of music to help them get through the horrors they had to face.
They (we) were raised by WWII vets with the same demons haunting them. John talked to his dearest friend about Vietnam and it did help. Keep urging him to discuss and work thru the horrors. Always reinforce how much you love him. His memories are just that.. memories. It was crazy and lawless back then. Same for every war.
My grandfather (who raised me) was a tunnel rat. He had a lot of struggles, but I learned listening even to the happy ish memories helps them though. I miss my grandfather deeply and cherish those stories. Both good and not so good when I could get him to open up.
To all who suffered and died in these senseless wars, I give my utmost respect and thanks for your service. I’m 69 and still listening to these wonderful stories and music from the 60s and 70s. Music keeps us sane in all the craziness surrounding us.
Tears still form when I look back to those years where the young men from our neighborhood went to Vietnam. Some came home. Carved in their soul can only earn respect from us who were too young to be drafted. Our neighborhood bonden. We will never forget your bravery. I was 18 when Nixon ended the draft. I owe you all my respect.
I never served but i will be 68 soon so i remember the timeless and GREAT music from then!! That time was GREAT in many areas and bad in others for this formerly great but now quickly self-destructing Country.
My mother was a young woman during WWII and often talked about the songs that were popular back in the 1940s during World War II. She often said it brought back so many memories. I served as a combat soldier in the Infantry in Vietnam in 69 and 70 and I never thought that someday these songs would bring back so many memories. Some good and some not so good. I believe I am blessed to be 72 years old and enjoying these songs.....
thank you for your service. I'm sure you have mixed feelings about that entire period but when the call came, you went. that counts for something. others refused and they had their reasons.
@@stephenlane9640 welcome home also brother. My Basecamp was Cu Chi and my fire support base was Pershing. We were slightly Northwest of Saigon. I hope God has given you and your family a good life. He has blessed me and my family immensely.
@@LivingTheDream6871 I know exactly where you were, flying out of Long Binh, the 159th and the 283rd covered all of 3 Corps and Cambodia. Pershing? Could have been worse; you could have been based out of Tay Ninh or FSB Burt (BtW, 25th or 1st Cav?).. I see you have a Purple Heart , perhaps one of my fellow Dustoff crews carried you to the 24th Evac. on Long Binh. Mostly though, I'm glad to see we're still here to chat about it.. S
69 and 70 for me too bro. Quantri I Corp 5th infantry. We would play these songs back in the rear whenever we got back from the bush. Lucky to get home. Peace!
I was 17 years old when I got to Vietnam-1966 through 1969 (My mom had to sign a waiver for me), I grew up fast and learned a lot, good and bad. (I am now 73 and still learning). I was stationed on the USS Providence and also stationed in Country at a place called "Monkey Mountain" close to DaNang,. I spent 3 tours of duty in and around Vietnam. 3 of my high school friends were killed in Vietnam, I was spared. I participated in the TET Offensive in Feb 1968, that was bad. Somewhere along the way I was exposed to Agent Orange (Nasty Stuff) I am now on disability for the effects of agent orange. When I was discharged and came home to the States we arrived in San Francisco, and there were a lot of protesters spitting on us and throwing rocks and eggs and called us baby killers. That was our welcome home. I tell you this to say to you, that whatever your position is or was on the Vietnam war, it was not the veteran who got us into the war, most of us went because we were patriots and loved our country. Blame the politicians, yes, but not the veteran. To all Vietnam Vets out there, you are not forgotten. As a previous combat Vet myself, I salute you my friend.
The welcome that you that made it back from Vietnam got is slicking had they been in them jungles and villages there self i think things would have been different i want to think you for your service I also had friends killed over there I got out of school in 1972 and just barely missed it.
I demonstrated against the Vietnam war in D.C. when I was in my late teens. Almost 70 years old now. We never spat on veterans. Only assholes would do that. Respect.
I took my weapons training on Monkey Mountain in 68. I missed Tet but was there when Charlie blew up the fuel dump at Danang and when the bomb dump caught fire. Man you talk about seeing 750 pounders flipping up in the air as everything there got involved in that fire. Thank you for sharing, and I'm really glad you're home.

I lost my brother in law in Vietnam on November 4th, 1969. He lost his life but saved several that terrible night. Was only 23 years old. Every time i listen to this music I think of him.
Hopefully one day our governments will stop these pointless wars for money and resources and no one will have to experience this pain again. Nixon and Kissenger deliberately prolonged the war by telling the South Vietnamese to vote against peace at the Paris conference as they did not want Johnson to deliver peace as it would affect their chances of being elected.
I lost my little brother on July 2, 1967 in Nam. The pain never goes away for some reason. They call and announce MIA and you think about him lying somewhere in the jungle, then3 days later the car shows up. Devastating isnt it. He was also only 23. He enlisted out of college. Only there 3 months.
Shame 😥 the terrible losses that you and others suffered with Vietnam War will be a huge scar on the world forever, may you find comfort knowing that he will forever live in your heart. RIP ♥️ one of the brave who gave his life for his country
My dad fought as a fighter pilot USAF. He turned down a Purple Heart and got a silver cross. He was sent to many dangerous places. He told me on his deathbed that it was a bad wrong war. Made his career but he hated that war. I miss him every single day.
It was a terrible war and took many young lives but all wars are terrible and a waste of lives. Richard III was the last English King to die in battle in 1485, since then the old men who start wars have never paid the price. Its the same all over the world, Gaza right now. The 60s/70s were not great times but produced the best music.
I thank you for sharing. I was watching a special years after the war was over called Letters from Vietnam. It really hot me then how our soldiers were just kids. I sobbed at that realization. Sadly, we just don't learn.
My dad was there also, 2 times, USAF. My dad would never talk about Vietnam, only about the places he had been when he was there. I wish he was here today so I could pick his mind and make him tell me all the things he knew then. It might make it a little clearer to me as to what is going on now. From one Brat to another Fly High
I remember me and my mom taking my Marine Dad to the airport for his return tour of duty in Vietnam. When it was time for him to board his flight they kissed and hugged. But the most significant thing I remember from that day was another young military guy kissing and hugging his young lady who was crying. I can remember that day like it was yesterday. That was 1968 and I was only 5 years old. Dad made it back safe and I hope the other guy did too. To this day the music of the 60s and early 70s are my favorite.
My Daddy served in Vietnam, I'll never forget the first time he had flashbacks it was so scary, me and my lil sister was watching The Yearling and our dad was asleep on the floor leaned up on the edge of our couch, on the end, suddenly he started moaning and mumbling, sweat was popping out all over his head and neck, he started screaming and making the motions of carrying a gun and firing it, my stepmom yelled for us to go to our room, we took off and we heard dad scream a blood curdling scream and then nothing, I could hear him crying sobbing like a child, then my stepmom saying it's ok Billy you didn't hurt the girls I sent them to their room, he let out a sigh of relief that me and my lil sis could actually hear, and he said Father forgive me, I did what I was ordered to do.that was the first time I ever seen anything like that, and the first time I ever heard my daddy talk to God. I remember it like yesterday, he never spoke about his time there, 3 tours, I'm 51 now, he's been gone since 98, he was 52 years old, Vietnam was very hard on him.
I understand. My grandfather served in WWII. He very rarely talked about it, but as he was dying of cancer and on morphine, he had many hallucinations of the things he had experienced during his European tour. He was 18 and I could hear the terror, horror, and sadness in what he said during these episodes. I know he was in an area that had gotten hit pretty hard because he would scream about the rats and trying to get them away from the bodies. He passed in 72 when I was 9, but I never forgot the horrors that war imprints on the souls, minds, and hearts of our veterans. My father served in Vietnam and my husband in Afghanistan. So I am grateful to all of our service men and women who endure things that would break most of us. God bless you.
My sweet uncle was one of first sent to Vietnam. He was in an engineering company. He could never talk about his experiences there. It did something to him though. He died at 59 years old. I miss him so much.
As a Vet of Vietnam War this selection really gets the blood pumping and the memories come flooding back and I salute all my brothers and sisters who remember.
As a vet who was too young to be there, I salute YOU. Almost slipped up and called you sir....we all know what that means... The boomers are the best generation out there, but you guys who were just days/years ahead of me....May GOD bless each and every one of you.
I am a german woman, 72 aged, went with my parents to live in london until 1970. So I lived at one of the hotspots of music. I am so greatfull and thank God that He let me live in these great music times . I had the chance to hear all the great songs, see most of the musicans, bands and groups, I was always there were they were. My parents, wonderfull and great humans, my dad was a german soldier, payed for all the journeys to other countries so I could travel to festivals and concerts, USA and Europe. All the songs played here bring back my youth .... and make me cry, I would love to live it all again. Peace and Love, Bless you all, maybe we will meet somewhere.....
@Maria-tm2eu I agree. The music is alive , living vicariously the past through the music . At 70 I completely understand. Be safe , keep listening and stay healthy .
I was born in Milan back in 1953. I too was lucky enough to be present and young in the beautiful 60s and 70s. As I was able to enjoy music and not only in those beautiful years. Even today I listen to the music of those times and always rejoice. Too bad that the hopes we had to change the world we have not made them and today we live in a worst world. I am very sorry about this, especially for today's young people. HI Maria, Peace and Love forgive my English, I hope you understood me anyway
My uncle (recently passed away in March) was a Marine and was injured in 67 when he stepped on a mine..Semper Fi..my father was a jet mechanic for the Air Force and did four tours over there and he has been passed away for 6 years..i was to young for Vietnam but I have proudly served 8 years in The US Navy and I have always been very proud of all of OUR AMERICAN VETERANS PAST AND PRESENT AND I THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRECIOUS TREASURED SERVICE TO AMERICA AND WE THE PEOPLE
Carl here ,Marine served Many years, happily ,I m 62 and have 4 stage cancer .I'm home alot with my lovely wife of 31 years. I keep the radio on 24 - 7 .it brings back so many good memories. God bless all how has served ,and those who gave there lives .
3/3 USMC 1968-69-70 radio operator. On the z in Dong Ha . This music brings back good memories and also bad . I'm 75 yr. Old and most if not all memories are just like it was yesterday. God bless and be with all the families that were in the service and especially the families that have Lost loved ones. I made it through The war with little damage only to find out that I got agent orange problems now . The price of war we all pay. Just don't kick no dirt on me yet , I'm down but not out.😊
Thank you for your service. My stepdad was part of Phoenix company US Army. I didn't learn till shortly before he passed he was a sniper. God bless those that fought for us.
I had a neighbor with agent orange problems. He told me over and over "the doctor said the slow part of my body breaking down is over, now it's going to go fast". He passed a few years ago, always such a good man, left behind a beautiful wife of I think 40 years. Soldiers rest in peace as angels sing Amazing Grace.
Not enough recognition is given to the families of military vets. You (family members) sacrificed time and separation from the Vets. Thank you for your support also, along with his service. SMS JBS, USAF retired
My dad proudly served 2 1/2 tours in Nam. Fortunately he had the ability to talk about it . He had many slides and went to schools to talk and everything. Unfortunately it did not take care of his ptsd. Thank all of you veterans for your service. Rip Sgt. Mosser
My brother-in-law fought in Vietnam, came home and worked for the Post office for many years. He was a very giving man. I miss you Ed! He passed away in 2020 my you rest in peace!😥😓💔💘🤍🖤🤎💜💙
Remember, we Australians were there with you, as in every single war since WWI. We had our joys and sorrows, victories and defeats in Vietnam. We were there.
Be careful when getting your father to talk. It brings back memories that torment us. Everyone that served in Nam brought back demon's that will never give us peace. I went over wheni was 17. I'm 70 now and it has started to torment me again. Thank God that i have a wife that Love's me and try's to understand. May God Bless you and your Dad and may He keep you in his precious care!!! God Bless you!!!
Ma Dad never talked about the things he saw and ..., he refused talking about it. My family respekted it. It must have been terrible things. He went as a german soldier per foot to moscow, more bad than well. His leg was frozen, his toes had to be amputated. I pray every night tha t war will never happen, I hope the old man up there ist listening to ourprayers.... or is she a loving woman?
Today is my brother's birthday, MY ONLY BROTHER, there were 8 girls 1 boy & HE WAS SMACK DAB IN THE MIDDLE.... THE 1st 4 girls, Him, then the last 4 girls. He's a retired Marine and my Hero.. This play list of that era made a great day for him & us 3 remaining sisters.. Thank you for the memories it brought back for him, and thank God for leading me to it ...
A big salute to all of our Vietnam vets that gave all in the hellish country.. God bless each and everyone of you and hands down the best music of any era...
Fortunately Both My Brothers Missed 'Nam But They Served In The Armed Forces.. Bless All Our Brothers And Sisters Who Didn't Come Home And Those Who Did. GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!❤💜💙
I lost alot of friends after the Vietnam War from cancer. It is devastating to loose so many. I now have seen movies and documentaries from the men who went through the Korean War in Okinawa and I realize why Dad always had nightmares and woke us all up from screams. He would never talk about what he went through. I don't ever want to see any one go through that.
MANY A FRIEND PASSED FROM AGENT ORANGE FROM VIETNAM THAT THE USA USED. TODAY, MY FAMILY IN UKRAINE ARE SUFFERING THE WRATH OF PUTIN. THE SONG EVE OF DESTRUCTION COMES TO MIND FROM '65 TO '24 MEANING THE SAME EVEN AFTER ALL THESE YEARS,😮💨
My old Man never Talked about Vietnam much except you don’t realize how blessed you are until you’ve spent Christmas Day in the Jungles of Vietnam, kinda always played it off till I spent two Christmas Day’s in the Desert. Miss ya Pop.
It’s amazing how we try to make the claim of being civilized and literate, even religious. Yet, lend little value to one another or even earth, the diminishing pool of life. We do very little to stop evil, before it evolves into the industries, upon which feed the rich. (Lawyers, politicians and armorers) Race, hunger and guns would never be an issue, if we only could treat one another, just like we all want to be treated! A sustainable earth is on all of our shoulders. Before you condemn me as some passivist. I am a peace time PG Vet, that was on the wrong end of AKs, RPGs and Exocets. Those we faced, were only people just like us, pushing someone else’s ideals. When you take the easy money out of the picture. Those without morals collapse. Even the US immigration problem is solved, when you take the easy money away.
My Dad was in Viet Nam , I was a young teen 14 , went through it all , Dad was in for nearly 30 yrs. This music meant everything to me ... Dad is gone now , I am a very proud girl and now I'm going to be 69 in Oct. What a life I've lived through all I learned from Dad and Mom. The Best Army Wife I ever knew....Thank 💜 ❤ you both , Nikki
I also listen to this music, reminds me of my father. For he is gone. Never came back the same, as I was told. He never hurt us! But he wud tell us the stories of WWII. He drank alot and that's what killed him. So yes, I listen to the songs, and I miss him dearly! Back then there was no name as to his state of mind. Today it's called PTSD. KEEP UR LOVING MEMORIES, DEAR TO UR HEART. God bless u!!
Hello Juanita, I am a Viet Nam vet age 72, for those of us who came back, this country had no respect for us, was just another hell we had to deal with. Nam destroyed my mind, I was only age 20 killing as my job.
@@ratter531 im a british army vet of 22 years ive fought everywhere from northern ireland to afghanistan and everywhere in between. im 56 and im just lining up 16 sessions of counselling or something. what do we tell them ? i was 16 when i joined my first tour of duty was northern ireland we lost 4 men in the first week. what is there to say ? we just remember , stay safe and strong brother.
my father's mind died in Vietnam with so many of the best. The struggles of all of us kids that grew up with the Vietnam at home, the memories are so very vivid to this day. Read every book I could to understand my dad and to be the best I could for him. Good, bad or indifferent, was the love child of the craziest decade ever. Thank you for this mix, it really is awesome!!
My mother was no hippie.Infact, she was a suburban housewife. She listened to this music when I was a child. I Love 💕💕 these songs thanks to my mom.She died when I was 9.Thanx Mom,for the best sounds of all time!!! Your the best!!
Love the music of this time. My dad served 7 tours of duty in Vietnam; when he returned he was a changed man, and even in his later years wouldn't speak to me of the things he endured and saw. He was well decorated with a bronze star, silver star, purple hearth with oak leaf cluster but I think if he would have much rather not gone through things he did. Proud of the men and women that did their duty.
I salute your Dad for the great man he is. I think of his generation and the generation we are now watching grow up, no comparison. Your Dad is a King among Kings. A Legend among Legends
My dad served 3 tours in Vietnam. I am very proud of him and every man and woman who fought for our freedom and served their country the USA with pride God bless everyone of you for your unselfishness leaving your families not knowing if you were coming back or what you’re facing over there. I respect you very much my dad didn’t talk about it much and had nightmares but you didn’t dare wake him up. I was born in 65 and my dad was gone to Vietnam again I am PROUD of him and all the others of you who gave and sacrificed your lives for us love Michelle
Mine served one year in Vietnam after that tour, they brought him back to be a drill instructor. It about killed him training men for war knowing they would not come back and how vicious and ruthless the Vietnamese were. God was his shield is all I know. Because of the job he had during the war, 90% of the men died in battle.
You have a right to be proud of your dad, Michelle, and so to many other children whose fathers fought in the VN war. Always be proud of your father. It was a war that many people didn't understand and denigrated those who fought there, undeservedly, they were all heroes who fought in the Viet Nam war. I was young and hardly realized about the war there, but I certainly do now and my heart broke as I watched people stencil over their loved ones name on the Vietnam War Memorial in W. D.C. when I visited there. The Memorial is huge and it's difficult to realize how many of our young men were lost there. Please thank your Dad for us, for his service to our Country, Michelle!
I still play most of this music in my car now. Can almost remember the first time I heard most of them when they first hit the airwaves back in the day, and have loved them all since then. Our music is timeless...
WOW, USS VIRGO 1965-1969 4 tours Vietnam ........ best music ever .... PASS THE AMMO ! My big brother Jeff killed in action June 19 1968 still hurts every day ! RIP JEFF
Thank you both for serving and I am sorry for your loss. I lost so many young men in my life who were friends through my childhood, I will never forget any of you who went, whether by choice or being drafted like my friends right after we graduated in 1968.
My Grandad went off to track for a pee...never returned, Burma. RIP to all you very very brave men, who let's face it, had no idea of what they were walking into. And sincere condolences to all those parents and families, thank you!
Uncle Bill came back with 3 purple hearts. I was around 8 years old and my dad was gone so uncle Bill was my father figure. He taught me everything I know today! I remember me at 8 years old running 10 miles a day with him and 8 of his buddies in a group, we were all Marines! He's gone now. RIP Uncle Bill ❤
_Sympathy of the devil plays in the backgraound as I make a mental image of you, your Uncle Bill and his colleagues running together_ We raise a glass for Uncle Bill and others who served. 🥃🎉🎉🎉🎉
Rock and Roll will never die! My son is 27yrs, I am 65 and he always told me we had the best rock. He was forced to listen to my music. I love good ole rock and roll. Ken H
My dad was in the Navy early in the war, my uncle Terry in the Marines towards the end. Terry took his own life, and I never understood why until my own service in the 80s. I spent the 90s doing what I could for the local veterans of that era, and talking with them before l helped me deal with my own demons. Here's to no more pointless wars.
My very best friend Brendan and I, both in the USAF as Aerial Combat Documentary Photographers both got our Orders to go to Vietnam in July 1967 at Vandenberg AFB Calif where I had been stationed for 2 years and my friend 1 year. We had just returned from a TDY (Temporary Duty Mission) to familiarize ourselves using camera equipment in the back seat of Fighter jets when we got our Orders. My best friend loved to smoke pot (pot made me sick) Brendan Begged me to go to Canada with him instead of going off to the War. I couldn't do that and talked him into do what he signed up to do. We were on the same plane into Tan Son Nhut, Vietnam and then we got separated. He was shipped off to DaNang and I got sent to a B-52 base in U-Tapao Thailand. A few weeks later I got a letter from Brendan begging me to get OUR 1st. Sgt. From Vandenberg, Calif. (and Still my 1sgt in Thailand) to get him Transferred out of DaNang ! I decided I would wait until I had a chance to see 1st. Sgt. Frenchie DeCuir (both Brendan and my old Beer drinking 1st. Sgt. buddy back in Calif.) to get Brendan transferred. 2 weeks later I got notified that 1st. Sgt. Frenchie was coming to my base to visit. I was happy I would get to see Frenchie in person and tell him about Brendan. The Day Frenchie arrived at U-Tapao i went to pick him up at the Flight Line. Frenchie didn't seem real happy to see me and I asked him what was wrong. Frenchie said Dave... *BRENDAN IS DEAD* Brendan had gone to his Commander's Office afterhours and killed himself at his Commander's Desk ! *I WAS DEVESTATED THEN AND STILL TO THIS DAY FOR NOT EVEN TRYING TO HELP MY BEST FRIEND !* Brendan signed his letter to me Brendan the Flower Soldier ! *RIP Brendan !* WAR IS A MF'er !
My father passed away and I dedicated this song to him at his funeral, he was my dad and best friend. I know he is in a better place, and he and all my memories of him will always be in my heart. Rest In Paradise Dad!
Mr. B. Here ! Am a non-combat vet, served 1970-1973, your dad is alive in the music before Nam ! Go to ( DJ Johnny’s Music for Your Mind ) It has help me go back in time think of those who are not with us . Am sorry for lost ! 🥲🇺🇸
Nothing good came out from the Vietnam war but it sure brought out some of the best songs that I still listen to everyday,God bless all the veterans that kept and still keeping us safe today, thank the rock and roll music that keeps our soul alive
We came out of it, and it is good. That's something... The music was Heaven sent, no doubt. We just need to keep it going. We wanted change in the 60's, but you have to know when to stop. God Bless America USAF 1970
The memories of that time are treasured . From across America , we met in boot , from different races and creed . We put it on the line for our brothers . Some came home , same live in our hearts . It was bigger than life for us there .
I Spent 9 months patrolling the Mekong river as UN peacekeeper back in 92-93. Remembering the conflict in Vietnam I thought how hard was that war for those who fought there , all my respect for them.
@@mikecushing7276 Unfortunately, there are cases of misconduct involving peacekeeping personnel and also several crimes. about war, don´t get me wrong, many of those who fought were sent by theirs governments and survive... they deserve respect.
I am 77 years-old combat soldier, who served in Vietnam, in 1967 to 1968 with 4/47 Mech. Infantry, 9 Infantry Division. I recalled in many occasions we would played "We gotta get out of this place," by the Animals when we went out on patrol. We did not care, if the Vietcongs would hear us or not, but we played that songs because it gave us courage.
And you had courage... Omgoodness! I loved that song.. always used to sing along to the Animals' music! Still as rich today. Love & Gratitude for your service to humanity.
That's fascinating about playing music on patrol and not caring if you were heard or not. Another thing that I learned through reading comment from a Vietnam veteran was that *Oogum Boogum* by Brenton Wood would be playing most times during his deployment. It fascinated me because certain songs and tropes have been popularized by Hollywood movies about the Vietnam War that I assumed music that played was always dark, edgy and/or politically charged anti war msssages and so on.
My dad received a purple heart in that war but never to this day talk about vietnam but he gave me a lesson every sunday on the music they often listen too thanks pops
Right on brother I feel u I'm 61 and when I went to school u would c the news it's war u come hm from school more footage of the tragedy but I can c my bro listening to all off the music of that era wow man hat off to ur pop's son
Many thanks to your Dad!!!! He was sent to fight a horrible war. When American soldiers first went to Vietnam they were not allowed to fire back on the enemy. I have friends that were there and the horrible things they saw and endured at very young ages should never have happened. I can understand why your Dad does not talk about that time. President Kennedy was going to pull us out of that war, but sadly he was murdered by those closest to him because he was going against their plan. Democrats are the enemy against American freedom. My Dad taught me that at a young age.
I was born in 1967. My father was a Cobra pilot in the Cavalry for two tours. Distinguished Flying Cross, Silver Star and Bronze Star. He once told me he used to blast the Stone's, 'I Can't Get No Satisfaction.' as they went on the attack. The songs here were his time. RIP pops.
I was with the 5th Infantry up in the Quang Tri Prov. 1968-1969. Lots of time on and around the DMZ. No entertainers would come there so we listened to music sent from come. We had a little cassette recorder. Terrible sound but it was music from home.
My brother was a Green Beret and fortunately came home alive. I remember when we saw 2 soldiers in dress walk up our street, watching to see what house they went into. It meant they were delivering death news. All of us would stop and hold our breath til they passed our own homes. And then cry for whoever just lost their soldier. War is Hell.
remember very well the black car with the base chaplin coming to many of our neighbors. Thank God my father came home from both of his tours of Nam . The sorrow of the whole neighborhood was felt and we all came together as family .
I was born in 1962, my dad was a lover of this music, I have so many great memories of he and I going for rides in his 66 mustang and the great collection of music coming through the speakers and him telling me stories about his life and me spell bound as he took car rides to no where in particular, and sometimes I got to drive on the back roads while I set in his lap and he worked the pedals , while I steered. The sound track of my childhood and teen years pouring out of the speakers and over my body to fill my soul, now I wish for those simple days, thankfully I have the music that takes me back in my mind to those days.
My mom was born in 63 and her dad, my papaw, was a vet and into muscle cars. Even had a plymouth... Plymouth something... fury? Once. She tells stories like yours too. I was lucky and got similar experiences with him too. He's 84 and still going
Sorry for my english. I'm french and my english school years are a little bit away. I feel de same with this kind of music. It was in France during my holidays with my cousin who was 10 Years older. You can imagine the party we had with his friends. I remember that easilly with this music. The same way as you and your father. Best regards. Jean Louis
Great Memories this music brings to me. Much respect and admiration to my Uncles and All Brave Very Young men who fought and died in Vietnam. You will Never Be Forgotten You are my Heroes.❤❤❤
Dedicated my Soulmate passed 2 years ago, served in Vietnam at 18 enlisted, effected him all his life, I was the girl that was the Hippie that didn't want the Vietnam War, Dieter wish he had never witnessed such a nightmare ,a nightmare that lasted his entire lifetime, I love and Respect him always,my best friend ever
Love you girl....A flower child helped me on the long road back from VIETNAM with love. I am blessed to still be alive and able to listen to this music....even if it's with a tear in my eye.... You did good girl.....Marine Vietnam 67-68
The best songs ever written sadly they had to be when we had a war going on. My heart goes out for every soul that was lost to every war that we was in. And I feel the pain for all those that suffer all the wounds that you carry. You lost everything to fight for our freedom, I give you respect and thank you for all that you did for me. I grew up during the Vietnam war so I know. Thank you is never enough for all that you went through, it's all I have to offer.
My best friend who now is blind is a Vietnam vet who came home with PTSD at 78 he gives his prayers to many of his lost buddies back there in Vietnam. He says it was a torment of a war to live through

Listened to these all day long when the radio was picking it up. Brings back memories. At 75 I still like listening to them and savor the moment in time I heard it. Those were the days.
Born in 71 - but lucky enough to listen to this music courtesy of my dad ! He had great taste ;) All the respect i can muster to the vets who endured hell during that war......
My grandfather fought in the first world war. He never spoke about it. But he didn't go on a tour of duty, he went for the duration. He went in 1914 came back late 1919. Everyone thinks the war finish in 1918 but there was lots of mopping up to be done he wasn't released until later. My grandmother was pregnant with my mum when he went. She was nearly 5 before he ever met her. He used to send her cards from the front, stamped passed by the cencer, no one knew where he was. I still have those cards. I am a 78 years old male, but tears come to my eyes when I look at them. Although he never talked about what happened he encouraged his 3 sons, my uncles, to get into an essential profession. During ww2 thay all worked as aircraft engineers 2 at a local factory and one at Rolls Royce. The only thing I know about his time in the army is that he was in the Leicestershire yeomanry and he was classed as a marksman, probobly a sniper.
so your perspective is UK, which I gather was not so much involved in vietnam but was involved in some of the later stuff. and yeah, terms of duty would have likely been different situations in europe of that period. WWI was supposedly the war to end all wars. Evidently it did not turn out that way.
Now marksman means they can usually hit the target. Expert is how I qualified. John was a better shot and he was a sniper (3 man team) in Vietnam. Do some research on your grandfather using the freedom of information act. It will prove very interesting, something to pass down.
WWI was an ugly, ugly war. Of the 60 million soldiers who fought in the First World War, over 9 million were killed - 14% of the combat troops or 6,000 dead soldiers per day. An entire generation of young men. The impact was that many women didn't marry and had to work outside the home which was a huge societal change. The wounded veterans had a horrible time if they couldn't work. Plastic surgery, as we know it, was perfected about this time due to the horrible facial injuries. Many men had to wear masks to hide horrific injuries. A friend was gassed at the Somme and had lung damage. A brutal war.
As a retired US Marine who served with the 3rd Marine div in Nam These songs bring it all back. I close my eyes and see a young man serving with my brothers.
Delta Co. 1/1 1st Mar Div. Jan '69-Aug '70 There is something about that time period of Viet Nam, coming of age flower children, hippies, anti-war demonstrators, LBJ, Nixon and even the bra burners, that was and is, unlike any other before or since. It certainly had a flavor for those who fought in it, that most will never know. ✌
My Uncle was a forward scout with 5 RAR, used to come stay with us in the 80s, he slept in my room, his nightmare screams were just pure horror. He told me and my brother stuff that wasn't meant for a child's brain. He had a human skull at his house He called Annie. We never knew if he brought it back as a souvenir or how it came to be. He has dementia now, may his transgressions be forgiven and his service never forgotten. To all past and present service people, you did what almost none of us could do. Thank you
To the 58,220 who didn't make it home from Viet Nam, we Honor You, We Salute You, and Thank you for your service, and sacrifice, may your Families be Blessed, and your Soul's, Rest In Peace !!!!! 🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺
My sister's boyfriend and my husband's cousin both lost their lives in Vietnam. My husband carried his cousin's dog tag in his wallet and it was there the day my husband died. The 60s and the 70s had the best music, it was original filled with love and passion. 💜
I am 70 next month and in the UK . I remember so well the 6 o’clock news every night about the Vietnam War. My Mum would shed many tears about the casualties we were told about as she remembered the suffering of folk Second World War so well. This music is so much a part of my teenage years and brings tears to my eyes now. Sleep tight all those who didn’t go home and respect to those who took part and still remember and suffer.
My husbands two Uncles were in Vietnam. Unfortunately one did not make it home. My husband is an Army Veteran and though I missed the opportunity to serve, I try in everway to serve all Veterans in anyway I can. I love our men and women who have given everything so that we all can enjoy life. God Bless The Men and Women of the United States Military.
I am from 1955. Amazing memories on the great music, and bad memories on the crazy war........... wars still going on in the world. People ( worldleaders) are crazy and out for power and money
My uncle served in Vietnam as a Marine Corps L.Z stud builder and team sniper. He would sit out in what we called the smoke shed and listen to these songs and more never once tell a story about the war but you could see the memories on his face as he listened. To all the Veterans of the Vietnam war THANK YOU deeply for your time and service. SEMPER FI!!!!
My father in law, 2 tours to Vietnam, I visited Long Tan with him 2015, he was very emotional lost some mates over the years great respect for the man, deep hatred for war and the bastard war mongers and what happens to veterans
I was injured during the Vietnam War and spent 6 months in rehab. To this day I suffer from PTSD. I lost everyone in my unit. Me and one other soldier were the only survivors.😢
Sir my father from your war sir your my hero I'm truly sori you suffer I thank you for everything you gave me and this country your the best thing ever done by God love the mother of thank you sir ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Please know that we love you so much for signing up and defending the USA, for us citizens of whom you do not know. I'm 67 this year and remember the stories on the news, my uncle serving and never being the same when he returned, the music, and the protests near my home near LA. It's forever ingrained in my brain that this war was never to be forgotten for what our military men and women went through. ❤
@thecommandtent4029 I am not saying it was a just war. It was an unimaginable tragedy for the Vietnamese people. Our military men, most of them, had no idea why they were there and what they were fighting for other than what they were told, and when they were in the thick of it they were horrified at what they were told to do. I know the politics of it and was NOT in support of that war whatsoever. I posted what I and my family remember seeing at home, footage on the news, and what my uncle went through. I was supporting our Vets in my post. You are misreading it to fit your narrative. I still proudly fly my flag in my front yard, you fly yours. Most Americans still have good morals and values and we'd like our Government to stay out of other country's business. Like any country there are everyday people without a clue and are sheep, there is corrupt and one-sided media, there are corrupt people in government who aren't fighting for our desires and creating policies to work for their agenda, not ours. So before you respond to a post, read what is being said. There are books on how to do that, pick one up and read it.
Both of my older brothers served in Vietnam with the Marines. They never talked about the war, just like our dad never talked about his service in WW2 with the Marines. Thank-You to all the members of the military past and present for their service.
My uncle was a Marine during WWII in the Pacific islands. My aunt told me about hand-to-hand combat and that, after being shot, he returned to be with his brothers. I never once heard him say anything about his experiences or his medals. He's dead now. But I still think about him and the hell he wouldn't speak about.
@@HSTOZA same story for my uncle. I didn't even know he was decorated for valor under fire until I was over thirty. He didn't talk about it until he was about 80.
My husband served two tours in Nam and he doesnt talk about it, when he is sleeping he has those memories, the flashbacks arent fun for him or good memories.
This set is one of the greatest ever. I was in the first graduating class (1975) that did not get drafted. Those of you who served - THANKYOU for your service! I had a lot of friends who did not make it home or had siblings who did not make it home. I listen to this track in their memory.
I graduated in 1975 and I had to register for the draft ! But I do know they stopped drafting before that date , but some people where still required to sign up ! Idk why !!
I was born in 75 in the USA. My wife was born in 74 in Laos. If people still wonder why America defended South Vietnam, please remember the millions of refugees fleeing re-education camps. America’s brave military bought time for millions to escape. Those refugees are now first and second generation Americans like my kids. I owe my own family history, my own flesh and blood, and my lovely wife, to a history that came before me. I give thanks to my father’s Vietnam service and thanks to my mother-in-law and father-in-law for having the courage to cross the Mekong River under cover of darkness in 1980 with seven kids in a canoe. Thank you Vietnam Vets!

Nam Music rocks! I was a scared little boy when I went to Nam, came back a scared young man--music is a marker in our lives--we go into 'I remember when' mode, recall exactly when/where we were--would rather forget about Tet--when I hear nam music, I live for the ones that did not make it. Grateful/Humble.

I grew up in the LA area in the 50's & 60's. Sex, drugs, and rock & roll ! Most amazing time for music ever. If I had a Choice, there is no time, or place I would rather been alive in. Rockin strong at 72
My dad was in Vietnam war, all i can remember when I was young was how he was so angry, and drank all day never wanting to talk or do father / son stuff.by the time I graduated I kinda understood what he may have experienced as a young boy himself going through something so dramatic. He's gone now, I pray I see him again in the next life.To all who served, THANK YOU.😢
Sam Stone came. home to his wife and family after serving in the conflict overseas. And the time there that he served had shattered all his nerves and left a little shrapnel in his knee.
Gotta love reading all the comments with the stories, the different lives and experiences, I am very sorry for some of you and thank you for sharing your experiences
Thank you for your service. My dad wasn't so lucky to make it back. I was 4 when he died. I listen to this music all the time. Brings me closer to my dad to think he listened to this too.
What a story¡¡¡¡ Really think about what, you are going to kill someone, for politics. A hell. I think that if we were ever born of a couple, in the end, we are all brothers, relatives. So wherever you are, you're killing a brother.
I grew up on a Naval Air Station in Alaska. My best friend was in the Coast Guard there. He had been to Vietnam, but reenlisted in the C.G. after he couldnt the slow paced civilian life. He was a crew member on search and rescue helicopters and performed some of those really wild Bering Sea rescues. But one day he just walked out into the wilderness and never came back. They found his remains two years later. Apparently he just found a nice place, sat down until he died from exposure. Like so many of his fellow Nam Vets he just couldnt go on living in the real world anymore.
I went through this war as a young officer of Army Medical Corp of Republic of Viet Nam. All that music were still reminder me with some romantic memory.
After over 50 years of listening to these and other songs of the 60's 70's and 80's, they remain as fresh as the first time I heard them. Can't be bettered.
I was in Chu Lai from Oct. 1967 through Sept. 1968. Bob Hope came to see us Christmas 1967. Somehow I survived it all. God was watching over me ! Paul 🇺🇸
Hey. Thank you for serving our country! I'm happy that you made it home safe.
Thank you.❤
Thank you for your service🙏🇺🇸💪
Did you get any Vietnamese pussy?
Thank you for the sacrifices you made.
My dad was on hamburger hill with his guys. He came home but never talked about it. Best dad/hero a girl could dream of. His USMC dress cover sat on his dresser til the end. 🙌🏻

I love this music; this is ' REAL MUSIC '
The horror that americans did! Killing civilians , raping , killing women with children...shame on usa
Génération sacrifiée.
Respect to your Father
My grandfather (who raised me) was a tunnel rat. He had a lot of struggles, but I learned listening even to the happy ish memories helps them though. I miss my grandfather deeply and cherish those stories. Both good and not so good when I could get him to open up.
Grab a hold of the Good memories thank you for your service
Welcome home 🌹🇺🇸
To all who suffered and died in these senseless wars, I give my utmost respect and thanks for your service. I’m 69 and still listening to these wonderful stories and music from the 60s and 70s. Music keeps us sane in all the craziness surrounding us.
Ein Staat, eine Regierung, die ihre Menschen sinnlos in den Krieg und den Tod schickt, muss zerstört werden.

I’m 73 and can’t believe what we went through. These songs brings back so many memories.
Thank max music olds yuma az radiola1967
I'm 73 also and can't believe we are here now
My mother was a young woman during WWII and often talked about the songs that were popular back in the 1940s during World War II.
Welcome home brother.. Long Binh Dustoff 71/72... S
Danke für deinen Einsatz
Thank you for your service

Only there 3 months.
so sorry for your loss, we will never let their sacrifices be in vain, they'll be remembered forever 💜🪖 RIP all of them
man thats so young..he was a hero. robin.

I was 4 then. But I hated war. So glad your dad came home.❤️
I was born in "46" and lived in the Greatest Times of Music . End of Fukin Story

Geez Sherin. Harrowing. RIP to your father.
I hope some of those old ghosts finally left him alone, but who knows.

I envy you that experience. And I'm glad you recognize how fortunate you were.

I doubt he didn't want to be there if he served 7 tours. Its a sure sign of dedication to the cause. Bless him.

*BRENDAN IS DEAD*
Brendan had gone to his Commander's Office afterhours and killed himself at his Commander's Desk ! *I WAS DEVESTATED THEN AND STILL TO THIS DAY FOR NOT EVEN TRYING TO HELP MY BEST FRIEND !*

We did not care, if the Vietcongs would hear us or not, but we played that songs because it gave us courage.

The sound track of my childhood and teen years pouring out of the speakers and over my body to fill my soul, now I wish for those simple days, thankfully I have the music that takes me back in my mind to those days.

I was born in 58 and I did not miss it.
He says it was a torment of a war to live through
Still makes tears come to my eyes when I think of my lost friends
SO SORRY. GOD BLESS YOU.
Me also and the jarring feeling of the 21 gun salute when we buried another friend. These songs bring tears.
Thank you for your service Sir. 💯 from the bottom of many’s hearts

Listened to these all day long when the radio was picking it up. Brings back memories. At 75 I still like listening to them and savor the moment in time I heard it. Those were the days.
Born in 71 - but lucky enough to listen to this music courtesy of my dad ! He had great taste ;) All the respect i can muster to the vets who endured hell during that war......

many friends of mine, young and vivacious men..dead.
God bless and keep him close
As a retired US Marine who served with the 3rd Marine div in Nam
These songs bring it all back. I close my eyes and see a young man serving with my brothers.
Thank you and them for serving.
I'm glad you made it home.
Happy Thanksgiving Day..
So sorry the Vietnam vets were treated so horribly when they returned. Thank you for your service, I salute you and the others.
Bless u all😊
My Uncle was a forward scout with 5 RAR, used to come stay with us in the 80s, he slept in my room, his nightmare screams were just pure horror. Thank you
My husband's uncle, doc Phil Dobson,( Australia Army) was in the battle of Long Tan, and survived again great odds .

My sister's boyfriend and my husband's cousin both lost their lives in Vietnam. My husband carried his cousin's dog tag in his wallet and it was there the day my husband died. The 60s and the 70s had the best music, it was original filled with love and passion. 💜
My dog tags are still on my neck, a reminder of man's inhumanity to man.
So much needs to be said yet we as a nation today we lack the words
The Love and Passion is what finally broke through all that dark and pain.
@deerejohn7209 It will happen again. Those words will be found and finally conveyed through love art passion and music. The wave is gonna come again.
My husband served in quiet tours. My love to you and RIP to your love one
I'm an American. I lived this
My husbands two Uncles were in Vietnam. Unfortunately one did not make it home. My husband is an Army Veteran and though I missed the opportunity to serve, I try in everway to serve all Veterans in anyway I can. I love our men and women who have given everything so that we all can enjoy life.
God Bless The Men and Women of the United States Military.

i agree and it really hurts...great music tho and thanx
I would agree they only care about how much money they have
My uncle served in Vietnam as a Marine Corps L.Z stud builder and team sniper.

Have you tried hypnosis for your PTSD?
@@HSTOZA
same story for my uncle. I didn't even know he was decorated for valor under fire until I was over thirty. He didn't talk about it until
he was about 80.
Family like you supporting them is just as important as the soldiers themselves. Cheers to you!
My husband served two tours in Nam and he doesnt talk about it, when he is sleeping he has those memories, the flashbacks arent fun for him or good memories.
He is a Marine also. 1964-1968
This set is one of the greatest ever. I was in the first graduating class (1975) that did not get drafted. Those of you who served - THANKYOU for your service! I had a lot of friends who did not make it home or had siblings who did not make it home. I listen to this track in their memory.
Respectfully, class of 1972 and nobody got drafted. My draft number was 199.
A quick search indicates June 30 of 1973 as last inductee.
I too graduated in '75 we didn't have to register for the draft. I recall that to be the difference to the other draftees.
I graduated in 1975 and I had to register for the draft ! But I do know they stopped drafting before that date , but some people where still required to sign up ! Idk why !!
Class of 1973- draft #6- none of were taken as the war was over, yet e did have to register
Blessings to all the soldiers. And thank you everyone

No doubt these songs trigger many feelings and memories from the past. Now, at 73, I still enjoy the music, the vocals and the lyrics. Never forget!!

He's gone now, I pray I see him again in the next life.To all who served, THANK YOU.😢
I'm sure you'll see him again. 🙏

So sorry. I live in Alaska he so many Viet Nam vets retired here

Chilling depiction of your best friend finding the only closure he could accept; at least he seems at peace.
