    regarding the CX forks seals still leaking... I made a successful 'temporary' fix to my stanchions by cleaning up/smoothing any rough pits & filling those cleaned pits by filling with superglue. when it has set, rub down smooth & bingo no more leaks (without buying new stanchions or re-chroming)... replace damaged seals & gaiters will cover the repair anyway. still good 2 years later.

    Fill pits in the chrome with CA glue sand with 1500 /2000 grit paper...it works!! And will hold up.

    That CX is a great bike even when it was stock. I bought one of the very first ones that came out in 1978. It was a really fun bike to ride. I put over 40K on mine before I sold it and to this day I wish I would have kept it. It is probably one of the most sought after bikes to turn Cafe. I was a really good Cafe even when it was stock brand new.

    Loving the build so far....A tip for the leaking forks seal....Rub the fork leg down with very fine grit wet n dry paper in the pitted area, fill the pits with a two part epoxy like Araldite and then let it dry for 24 hrs, once totally cured get to work with the wet n dry again. that should get you back on the road for a bit.

      steven livingston I originally tried that but it wasn’t enough as the pits are very bad and deep. A few suggestions with epoxy were very helpful tho ☺️

    Nice video! CX500C was my 1st streetbike as a 16 yr old. Deep in my heart. Could try solder-filling the pits in fork tube and then sand and polish. Lead plumbers solder. Cheap and should last a while.

    • @CafeRacerGarage
      @CafeRacerGarage  5 років тому

      Urban Monk TV that’s a great idea mate. I wonder if solder or epoxy would be better. A few guys mentioned the epoxy in the comments so far

    • @UrbanMonkTV
      @UrbanMonkTV 5 років тому

      @@CafeRacerGarage I'm not sure. I've never used epoxy in that application before, but in theory it sounds easier than soldering. As long as there aren't any components of fork oil that would react with the epoxy and break it down. I know the solder can be polished to look shiny the chrome, but you've got gators on which will cover it anyway. Interested to see which route you decide to go! 👍🙂

    Hmmm i would try first to remove the dents with steel wool, and if you find some sharp points u could try this out, i’ve done it a couple times and has worked fine. Use normal loctite on the area, let it dry really good, it will fill the gaps and make a smooth surface, then try sand it carefully and it should do the job.
