- In this video we go for the first ride on the CX500 cafe racer build and give it a shakedown! The bike sounds simply amazing and is looking very promising for being a ton of fun to ride. It has been a vey long detail focused build and days like this make it all worth it. There will absolutely be more riding videos so please be patient as I get the bike through these last build stages and to a state where I can call it done!

How convenient, I have 22 minutes worth of work left for today and you just released this....:D You should be proud dude, this bike looks awesome, it has a proper agressive stance. That note is phenomenal too! loved the silence where you could hear the leaves move just before you opened her up!
Thank you sir! That exact moment I actually had to listen to a few times as I thought it was static or something lol. I've had a ton of trouble with my gopro dropping the audio at random times and it kills me!

Someday I might be able to complete something like this, wish I had your mechanical skill. Sounds great BJ, the longer you rode it the better it got. The noise it makes is KILLER!!
No reason you can't! There is a ton I don't know but always try to do everything to the best of my abilities and then some as when I have to take on the bigger challenges (fuel cap/stainless welding/fiberglass work) I learn the most and build my skills.

Its actually a 650. Episode 2 I walk you through the swap and later on I rebuild the engine and do a light head port to work with the mikuni carbs and custom intakes/exhaust. I call it a cx500 on the playlist to make searches easier

@@BrickHouseBuilds I have a CX 500 with a worked 650 in it. CBX750 front end , Crazy fast in the hills.
Aside from some seat foam and a front mudguard its kind of cool as is.

G’day the front end look absolutely magic! I can remember when I had my Laverda if you rod it too slow it really rod rough and you noticed it because it was a three cylinder once you got the revs up it was fine. John

18:16!!! goose spots. That sound! The angle of the shot, it just all came together. Had trouble starting up this week and I missed out on the premiere.. but you just made it better
It definitely had a shining moment then and hearing it at higher rpms was spine tingling. I rode it more today and its running even better after some tweaks
Been a long road but I’m glad to see it hit the streets! I’d be happy with that as a first run as well 👍🏼👍🏼

Every time you do a build there's always something that rally catches my eye thy you do different then anybody else. There's just something about that motor, My very first brand new bike was a CX 500 Custom and I absolutely loved it but I had kids.
Well thank you for that! I do agree about these engines as they have a character and a distinct look to them. It's unfortunate that people get hung up on comparisons as they will never be really fast or handle like a Ducati but are just fun and that's really all that matters.
@@BrickHouseBuilds I had a 68 BSA and a Triumph and I had a shit load of fun on that CX 500 Custom and they don't brake down the only thing is it was top heavy stock didn't care for that.
This bike sounds and looks so good 👍 Cant wait to see the dial in progress, I think it will be educational for me at least 😁

Following along and I skipped up to here! I'll continue to watch the whole build. Love the ingenuity, the design, the attention to detail. My only minor critique would be the red valve covers, but even that is only a personal preference. Awesome work man!
Haha its all good. The red covers are a thing that people will love or hate. With paint on the bike I hope people look at it and think, "yea it HAD to have red covers

What bike did you use the triple trees and fork from? And were there any difficulties with docking?
Thank you! They are GSXR1000 forks. Conversion bearings and done. I have a video earlier going over each component with specs listed in the description

After a build like that you need to do testing runs to sort out any bugs
I had to push my bike home a few times, blocked fuel tap and loose neutral wire on the rectifier
At the end of the video she's sounding nice

Hey Sean no you haven't missed anything! The bike has just been at paint but I have the unveiling video dropping Monday!! I havent finished the carb tuning yet but am actually hesitant to reveal what my jetting will be out of respect for Murray and his carbs. My setup is similar so I don't wish to pull any potential business from him.
@@BrickHouseBuilds Awesome! Looking forward to it. I totally understand regarding Murray but as you know first hand there is a lot more involved than just the jetting to make the VM34's work properly. He makes amazing carb kits that already have everything worked out and adjusted for sure! That's a great option for people that have the money and want a plug and play option. I'm just looking for somewhere to start size wise on the main and pilot instead of going at it blindly. I'm a little stubborn and like you I'd rather tackle things myself whenever possible, especially if I can save some money while also learning some useful knowledge that will most likely be needed when maintenance ultimately needs done.

Hopefully by now you understand that in this video you only synced the idle stop screws. The carbs are not locked together they have separately adjustable cables. You must get the cables to pull off the idle stops and sync there. Then go back and sync the stop screws. And the problem with finding neutral is the levers you have don't pull the clutch as far as OEM, you can shorten the lever on the actuator and that will fix it..
Yes I understood at the time as well Ted. Also I had poor clutch cable routing at this time so that was the issue with neutral. Now its much better
@@BrickHouseBuilds Please understand, I started watching this build with episode 1 and having built and restored a bike or two in my day, (and was a factory trained Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Triumph, BSA, Husky etc mechanic) I think you did a fantastic job, I like how you convey your learning experience and attention to detail. I am probably a bit more anal, and wouldn't make the same choices, but that is just personal taste. I have the same issues welding. I was just trying to convey some constructive hints.

You opened up the exhaust and airbox, it is just asking for more feul. Rejetting needed.
I've ported the heads, fabricated manifolds, made new exhaust, etc so its a full tune needed and not just simple jetting. I actually have a dyno video as we got it dialed in
Love it. it does sound lean off idle. Can i ask what spark plug wires you went with? I am going to be using the same style coil on mine, and all the harley coils have 1 long and 1 short.
Agreed. I have some more jets going in today. For the wires these are actually MSD wires. I found a couple leads at a shop and did a 90 degree terminal on one end

There are a ton of videos in the series to say the least so no worries. I bought the bends from old man motors and built the subframe from that. I then did the flush mount taillight in another video.

I just grabbed one off ebay. I measured the length I needed and simply searched for that.
Im having troubles with the monoshock, i dont know why that can´t carry the bike. I have a cx500 and i put it a Triumph 675 daytona monoshock, can some help me to known where is the problem?

Nope but so close! The bike is at paint and should have color as of today! Once that's done it goes to upholstery. My guy always knocks it out of the park so I'm equally excited for that!
What exhaust slip ons are you running?
Hello, the entire exhaust is custom and I used an off the shelf muffler from www.competitionwerkes.com that had the sizes I was after.

You don't sync at idle. Take the motor up to about 2k to 2500 and sync. then at idle I use the mixture screws to even the idle sync and smoothness. I no expert but I raced, and tuned bikes for a good number of years.

Is it running too rich?
In some spots yes and lean in others. This was just the first rear cruise in a parking lot after first getting the bike started so it did better than expected for no jetting changes.
@@BrickHouseBuilds I had the same after changing to a cone filter. I put an orifice plate between the cone filter and the carb then corrected pilot jet it was perfect.
@@ryoichinakamura5241 Well this has Mikuni VM34 carburetors, new ignition, ported heads, custom exhaust, and the 650 engine swap so it was bound to not be perfect. I'll get it dialed in though

Its like the 2nd time its been run. Id expect it to miss and not run perfect when not tuned properly yet. This was a systems test for the bike. Tuning to come.
