    This was one of the most valuable and informative clips I've seen, in particular the caring for the equipment - when I visit the sea, I usually dismantle and clean my tripod as you advised, but others haven't mentioned it, so I was concerned that I was worrying over nothing! This is a clip that not just warrants re-watching, but almost demands it.

      Hi Michael, this comment really made my day, thank you very much! Absolutely, I'm quite obsessive about cleaning tripods now, having pretty much lost one quite expensive one to the effects of salt. Nick Page actually devoted an entire video to cleaning tripods a few years back, but it definitely doesn't get talked about enough. Thanks very much for watching! Sam.

      @@BosePhotography that's very kind of you to reply, and thanks for the tip re Nick Page. It was fortuitous that YT suggested your clip as tomorrow I head to what we call the Surf Coast for a brief holiday, so I can try to put your advice into practice.

    I did some coastal photography in Britany recently and I do agree with everything you said. Particularly regarding the rush of adrenaline we receive when we think we’ve got a great composition but the waves are getting closer and closer. The sea is beautiful and powerful and in some way, scary.

    • @BosePhotography

      Thank you William, yes absolutely! I easily get carried away when photographing waves coming in, there's always a better one to come! Thanks for watching, Sam.

    Hi Sam: This was a wonderful video. I enjoy shooting seascapes as well, but living in central Canada I can only do this when I travel. We are coming to the Isle of Skye in the fall, so I should be able to get a good opportunity to capture some seascapes. Cheers, Keith

    • @BosePhotography
      @BosePhotography  3 роки тому

      Thank you Keith! I live in Oxfordshire myself, which is about as far as one can be from the sea in the UK (although maybe not quite as far as central Canada!), so I don't get to visit the coast as much as I would like. I really do miss it though, and try and get back there as often as I can. It's great to hear that you will be heading to Skye later in the year, it is a really amazing location and I hope you have an amazing trip! Our visit there last September was actually my first, despite growing up in the north west highlands, and it really didn't disappoint. We're hoping to spend much more time up there in the future! I'll keep an eye out for you if we happen to be up there this Autumn! Sam.

    That's one area of photography I need to do more of, especially in the UK as we're surrounded by the coast!

    • @BosePhotography
      @BosePhotography  3 роки тому

      Thanks Russ! I definitely need to photograph more seascapes as well to be honest (You may have noticed that my back catalogue consisted of only about three locations when I was putting this video together!). I do really love this kind of photography though, and yes, we have no excuse for not doing more here in the UK!
      With regard to the video, I've been applying the 'cinema' style black bars to the top and bottom of these videos purposefully, as they are made using old footage. I'm not sure anyone would really notice, but it just seemed to be a thing that might differentiate old footage from new on the channel. Apologies if it is too much of a distraction, but it was done on purpose (I edit using DaVinci Resolve btw.) Sam

    Another great episode and compliments your mountain landscapes perfectly. The footage & narration have been thoughtfully put together to make an interesting 15 mins of sublime scenery & images. Some great advice. Loved the images and dare I say it but it felt influenced by a certain Scottish landscape/seascape photographer that you might have met on the other side of the World :) Atb Al

      Thank you Alan! Yes, I do owe Ewan a little, he certainly provided some inspiration for this, although being perfectly honest I think I have a little way to go before I can match those heights, both photographically and videographically(?)! By the way, I really did like that black and white image you posted to IG of the tree roots, stunning work! S.

    With the closest access to the sea 600km away (via the US) and nearly double that if we stay in Canada, getting to photograph seascapes will just be a rare occurrence. That said your video was absolutely beautiful and the images were spectacular.

      Thanks Lee! Yeah, that clamp leg tripod of ours definitely suffered as soon as we took it onto a beach, despite our best efforts to keep it clean. I have to say though, the screw leg one is holding up pretty well, it makes so much difference being able to take everything apart and clean easily afterwards. Hopefully it will last a good bit longer! Sam.

    Hi Sam - We just stumbled onto your channel. Loved the seascape video/tutorial. We have been photographing in maritime environments and shooting seascapes for many years and really thought your video was spot on. We spend most of our time on the Oregon, Washington and B.C. coastline. We to substitute the wide angle lens for something a little longer (24 to 70mm). I don’t like changing lens on the shore and find that as the scene changes, I like the flexibility of being able to narrow the view as the light and scene changes. All the best.

    • @BosePhotography
      @BosePhotography  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Corinne and Shawn, just had a quick look a your channel, I do love your van! I don't think Hannah will let me buy a camper van so I have to make do with a tent for now! What a wonderful part of the world you are based in for seascape photography. Hannah's sister lives in Seattle so we're hoping to make it out that way one day! I agree actually, I've only recently purchased the 16-35, and most of the seascapes I have photographed in the past have been taken on the 24-105mm. I definitely wouldn't want to change lenses on a beach so that extra range can be useful. Thank you for watching, Sam.

      Ah, I'm sorry to hear that David, these places really can take their toll on equipment. I cut this video down a bit, but in the first cut I did tell the story of when I was at Boulder beach in Acadia national park and saw that happen to another photographer, and I also saw someone being knocked over by a wave (as well as their camera) at the iceberg beach in Iceland. You definitely need to be careful. I hope your friend has managed to replace her camera ok. Sam.
