    Chromatic Aberration is the effect of light getting broken into spectral colours when entering the glass of a lens by refracting slightly differently depending on wavelength. It can help your CG look a teensy bit more realistic. (Unless you overuse it... Hrm...)
    While I prefer to use Magic Bullet Looks for subtle Chromatic Aberration in After Effects, not all of us can use it, because not all of us have it.
    Using Shift Channels and Optics Compensations I show you a technique you can use to make it from scratch, and it gives a bit more control.
    See how to make the Crystal City in the video:

    Also the tutorial itself was very helpful thanks!

    For a super quick effect, just use the VR chromatic aberration effect. Its not super customizable but if you're in a pinch it'll do the job.

    Excellent tutorial!
    but i have a query..
    I made a glass toroid and I want to change the index of refraction (IoR) with a bit of aberration, how do you recommend adding the (IoR)? I've been hours and I still can't find the way or an expert tutorial. Thank you

    amazing video thank you so much!! Working on something right now that deals with not only Chromatic abberation but also controlling issues with corners after applying Optic Compensation....wasn't aware of Repetile until this tutorial. It's like you read my mind on my current work load lol THANK YOU [[SUB'D]]

    I would like to share this also.. you can do this without copying your entire clip, you can just Add an adjustment layer, but the only difference is to set the Mode of each to "Lighten". I think this is much faster... I guess.
    I think I haven't seen a video tutorial using this method xD

      Hm, I'll have to try that at some point. It sounds quite elegant.

    • @snraijuu
      @snraijuu 2 роки тому +1

      It doesn't work for me though, the adj layers just becomes fully invisible for some reason.
      edit: ah no, i'm an idiot, if you want to simply move the layer, use Transform effect, don't just move the adjustment layer lol

    No point in using this method if youre gonna use Optics Compensation. theres already an effect called VR Cromatic aberrations that does exactly this. The tutorial is useful to just offset the desired channels and produce a constant aberration through the whole frame. Helpful nevertheless.

    photographers do their best to get rid of chromatic abberations but you add it, why?

  • @Jukerlaw
    @Jukerlaw 5 років тому

    The method is good, but your way of teaching is really hard to understand (not to mention your voice), like the part CC RepeTile, Idk what this can do unless I test it myself, you should have mentioned what it can do (maybe repetition tile i get it).
