@@jazzxhack The 6th gate was plenty enough to beat Kisame. Guy only needed the 7th gate to stop thousands of sharks from getting off the island with critical intel. Kisame was never beating Guy with 6 gates or anything like that. And yeah, Pain is a lot stronger than Kisame but like...I don't see him beating Guy. There's a reason Kishimoto kept him out of the village, and I don't think it's solely because of the 8th gate. It's because Guy is a really bad match up for Pain, solely because of his speed. Shinra Tensei is Pain's greatest asset...but it has a five second cooldown. Multiple characters realise this and try to exploit it, and either come close (Kakashi, Choji, Choji's dad) or succeed (Naruto). If the former had been even a little faster they might've beaten the Deva Path. And Guy with the gates is much, much faster than anyone Pain ever fought. Plus, the fact that he only uses taijutsu means the Preta Path is useless against him, and while the Asura Path and Animal Paths aren't bad match-ups per se, I don't see them handling him either - too fast, too strong. The Human and Naraka Paths aren't even worth discussing, they just get folded easily. Pain could beat Guy, but he'd need to do it before he opens too many gates.
Gai would've had help from others, tsunade and kakashi would be great support, and with kakashis tactics and finesse, they'd overwhelm all of the paths, A lot of the people who would have died against the pains would still be alive and they'd also be able to help, Then with Naruto inevitably showing up it would be wraps for sure, no need for 8 gates or 9 tails, which is why he was written to not be around during the attack
