This would have been way better than the awkward Forever version, but still I can see why this didn't make it past the drawing boards. Maybe if they toned down Robin's actual involvement and focused more on him grieving his parents death which literally just happened.
Maybe Batman talks with Dick Grayson a little later and spills the beans on his own vendetta against the Joker. He might also give him this advice: “Don’t let vengeance be your primary goal, otherwise you’ll become no better than him. I do have a genuine score to settle with him. But I promise I’ll bash him a couple times for you. I’m also going to make sure he can’t escape justice. I’ll be in touch. But now, it ends.”
I would've had him be 12 years old Have him lose his parents and Bruce take him at the end in then have him be a little older in the second movie 15-16 and have him become robin there
If this was used in the 1989 movie this probably wouldn't have worked. Tony Zucko was the one who killed the flying Grayson, but instead they took the Two - Face approach in Batman Forever which also didn't make sense, if they picked this approach it wouldn't make sense, would b nice, but wouldn't make sense.
Two Face killed Jason Todd's father in the post-Crisis continuity (it was Killer Croc pre-Crisis), so maybe that's what made the writers of Batman Forever feel emboldened to replace Tony Zucco.
I'm glad this scene never got filmed. It wouldn't have worked in the finished movie. It's cool to hear Kevin and Mark doing the voices of Batman and Joker though.
Philip Zamora we ought to let Matt Reeves know about this scene so he could adapt it for “The Batman.” Although when Joker sees the fireworks, when he ignites them, he should say this: “This is gonna be a real blast! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!”
Pierce Brosnan as Batman LeonardoDiCaprio, River Phoenix, or Marlon Wayans as Robin David Bowie as the Joker (Hopefully they don't kill off the Joker because Joker is what makes Batman who he is as well as what Batman makes who Joker is as well as Batman's sidekicks)
One line that I think should have been there is this: JOKER: “Are you crazy, kiddo? You’re going to get us both killed!” DICK: “Fine by me, you murderer!”
The problem with that is you're imagining Hamill saying that. Keep in mind the Joker in this movie was played Jack Nicholson. He would not say "kiddo."
Seeing as how Warner Brothers likes to adapt famous DC stories like The Killing Joke and Under the Red Hood into straight to DVD movies apart of me would kinda almost like them to remake Batman 89 only to hear Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill say the exact same lines as Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson.
Nope, it was the biggest blockbuster of the year with a perfect cast. It's also the blueprint for everything that came after, including the brilliant animated series. And they already rebooted it, with the Bale/Nolan trilogy.
For anyone complaining that this meant Joker killed Batman's parents and Robin's parents, just know this was from an early draft were Joker was not the killer of Batman's parents. The guilt falls all on Batman when he realizes he created the Joker
Marlon Wayons was considered as Dick Grayson in Batman Returns. But because it was too many characters involved in the story, Tim decided to delete Robin. I think, in my opinion, that Tim Burton would've made a huge difference if he carried on for the third film and have Marlon Wayans as Robin. So far, six Robins such as Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown, Damon Wayne and Carrie Kelly were all white. Not a single one is black, Hispanic or Asian. Marlon would've done an excellent job
race is unimportant. casting a character who is not black to be black solely for PC reasons is utterly stupid. no one ever even thinks about casting a black character as a white one. Im not American, so I am not confused or have PC paranoia. theres lots of really cool black characters. instead of changing the characters race, just use a character that is actually black.
Daniel Haile not just considered, he was CAST! He even went in for costume fittings, but they cancelled it at the last minute. He gets residual checks for it though.
To be honest, I'm kinda glad this was taken out. The reason being that it's just too much for this story that's already bloated. Remember, this scene would've taken place after Joker showed up at Vicki's apartment, way into the movie, and near the third act. You don't just introduce a character that is late into your movie and expect to give any development. It could've been exactly like how Green Goblin was added in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 where they overstuffed it, and he has no time to breathe as a fully developed character. I can see why they took him, rightfully so. The studio was the one forcing Robin, and both Tim Burton and Sam Hamm agreed Robin would have no space, and wanted to just focus primarily on Batman and Joker's relationship. Keep it simple. That's screenwriting 101 for ya. I also feel that for how stiff the batsuit was, seeing Keaton's Batman on a horse would've looked awkward.
This is way awesome, and Conroy and Hamill are excellentt. But I am glad it wasn't included. The Joker telling Batman who he really is at this point spoils that moment near the ending. The movie already shares two origin stories Batman's and The Joker's. A duality of tragedies. Jack made Bruce into Batman, Batman made Jack into The Joker. A third origin story would have been too much. The 1989 Batman movie is just right the way it is.
I was sitting here like "weird this doesn't sound similar to the animated series at all" then it clicked, this was far far after BTAS. I'm a few bats short of a belfry
In another script, Joker wanted Vicki (not romantically involved with her) to shoot his documentary on him killing everyone in his reign of terror! Instead of a parade, it would have been a ceremony revealing a Lady Liberty like statue with a Joker grin and instead of a gun, he brought a tank which shot down the Batwing. Plus Robin was in this script and no stupid dance sequences. I would have preferred this script more than the one we got and they were all gonna be played by different people, for example, David Bowie as the Joker.
@@hyliannerd4541 that script is fucking amazing. This sequence in that script has helicopters and is waaaay more action packed. The tank sequence is awesome, with Robin taking out Jokers goons underground. Plus Vicky & Knox find out Bruce is Batman much earlier and Vicky is waaay more likeable. That Sam Hamm script probably would’ve cost like 100 million to make back then. The actual movie was made for about 30-35 million.
I know that Marlon Wayans was considered for the role of Dick Grayson/Robin in Batman Returns and even attended a wardrobe fitting, but the character ended up being cut from the final script treatment out of fear of the film having too many characters, but was he ever considered for the role in the 1989 Batman? or if not, then who was? (if there ever were any at all?)
I actually know this! I followed this pretty closely over the years. IN the original 89 film, Dick Grayson was in fact cast before they cut this scene. The actor was a young Kid Named RICKY ADDISON REED. He was in "Return to Salem's Lot. since they cut the scene he was out. Then in Batman Returns, Marlon Wayons was cast as a character that was "The Kid" in some drafts. A mechanic who wore an "R" on his jumpsuit and he fixed the bat mobile. In another Draft he was running with the triangle circus gang only to find out that the Penguin was responsible for his parents deaths. I'm glad that this didn't happen. However I would LOVE to see what Marlon Wayon's suit was going to look like had they actually built it. I know there is a design out there but it's a drawing. Would love to see a sculpt!

I’m really happy they didn’t end up putting this in. It’s a pretty awkward and lousy way to shove in Robin. And it probably would’ve screwed up the pacing of the film.
Batman '89 was originally meant to be a direct reboot of Batman '66, with a plot similar to Forever, what I like better about that version is because the film would be much more fun with more characters. If I were Tim Burton, and I went with that direction, I'd cast Johnny Depp as Robin.
I would have loved to see this scene in the movie. I don't like the idea of having the Joker kill Batman's parents. The original idea was to have Joe Chill as the killer, and the mob boss Grissom was actually supposed to be Rupert Thorne. I mean, why invent new characters for a movie that's supposed to be based on the comics? In my opinion, Grissom should have been Thorne and Mayor Joe Borg should have been Mayor Hamilton Hill.
RIP Kevin Conroy ❤🙏
Interesting how he voiced Keaton's Batman here and later voiced Bale's in Batman Gotham Knight
It's why he' is, and always will be, the best Batman.
It’s because he IS Batman, he’s all of them combined and more!
The Joker's Wild laughs - epic by Mark Hamill.
🙏🏻 for showing this storyboard from the voice actors of Batman TAS.
Nathan Cruz agreed.
Kevin Conroy as Batman
And Mark Hamill as Joker
This would have been way better than the awkward Forever version, but still I can see why this didn't make it past the drawing boards. Maybe if they toned down Robin's actual involvement and focused more on him grieving his parents death which literally just happened.

In Batman Forever, it was Two Face who killed Batman's parents

How Burton/Nolan/Reeves should've envisioned Robin:
Not as Batman's colorful sidekick, but rather as his young equal with an edge.
Like Batman ‘89
Why do i have a feeling that the horse was Jon Peters's idea?
They're should be a direct reboot/remake of this film. Bat 1989 is a great movie, still could have been way better.
