The new Alex that he has become would never do that. Don't destroy the character development that has happened since episode 1.
Even season 1 Alex wouldn't do that. He was an ass to protect himself from life not because he didn't care
@techno girl Patrick wasn't the best cast member though. He was fully involved in the drama they had on set for years. His situation was a whole other level + there's no way the fans wouldve accepted a divorce for merder. He had to leave with Ellen or with Derek dead

He still loved meredith more than anything and he was returning back to her. What they're doing with Justin's character is not good if they make him leave Jo, because his character would never do that. He's changed and grown so much

Literally at this point I’d rather Alex just have some tragic death like Derek. Like Alex has had so much character growth, his relationship with Jo was so right and he just would never just leave her. He was in love with her. This is hurting me so much.

FIRST OF ALL, at this point in Alex’s evolution, he would NEVER leave jo like that based off the fact that it happened to him and he was heartbroken! He had just told Jo how much he loved her and they should get “legally” married. He’s the chief of surgery at a hospital, Meredith and he just has so many good things that he would never walk away from! They are being so sloppy with this writing. Why not freeze their love in time like with Derek, Lexi, and Mark?
I am a die hard fan of this show and they are ruining it! All they do is let Owen be great with his sister wives and 10 kids and make us watch Maggie and Jackson Fuss for 3 seasons. I’m over it! Going watch seasons 1-13

That's always the case with this show. People always seem to leave the show in the most bizarre way. There's always a fight with the actor or something or they really planned the worst narrative for them to leave and don't bother fixing it. I hate this show now.

Alex said many times he won't leave Jo, so I hopes he is dead (he is a tv character so I don't feel mean wishing his death), I love Alex and Jo and if jo is gonna continue in the show is good. I hope she stays single for a moment but if not is okay just wish alex didn't left her, this scene makes me sad.
I feel the same they could say he needs to work in other hospital they live together, just have a better opportunity or that he is dead or that he needs to take care of his mom but just leaves her is disappointed. I felt I need to complain 😂.

Raquel Griego That’s why they were killing off everyone who wanted to leave before. Because it doesn’t make sense for them to just leave their loved ones and disappear. I’m so glad they killed off Derek now because it would be more than awful to give him and Mer’s relationship another end.
Is like Shonda get so mad with them so she ruin the last moments of their characters or end them so mean or out of characters. At least they kill dereck in a good episode to give us a real ending of dereck and meredith romantic tv shows.

After everything they put his character through from season one to now. He lost Izzy cause she disappeared on him, let’s not forget the psycho one(Ava), lost his mentor (Arizona) and been through hell with his family sick mom and abusive father.He would never do this. He would never just leave Jo. Especially after everything. He loved Jo. Breaks my heart.
The only way to get him out of the show is pull a Derek!

He said he would never hurt me like that and that he would beat that guy up if he saw him. He knew how that hurt me so much to the point I was depressed just like Jo. Sometimes people don't know how to deal with people with depression or other mental illness. It happens in real life, no matter what character development, it happens.

Literally when Izzy did this to Alex he was heartbroken, so the fact that they thought this was a good choice is ridiculous. Cause now jo is Devastated like it makes no sense to his character because he would never do that now. I would totally prefer him dying because then I won’t have to be sitting here thinking oh maybe he’ll come back maybe he won’t or maybe he’s just an ass like he just won’t be coming back and that’ll make the most sense Jo’s character has been through enough and the fact that she opened up to him and married him and just for him to randomly leave her is dumb.

@@jaim3278 first of all, we do not know for sure what happened to Alex, we'll find out only next week. But in the case Alex just left, that would be very similar to Izzie behavior 10 years ago and Izzie was so bad judged by all fans. Btw I think it is clear I talk about karma in a figurative way, it's just a show. Katherine Heigl wanted to leave and Justin Chambers just left, the writers have to pull out the best of situations out of that. It's a drama show so just bring drama.

I’m a self confessed, die hard Greys fan. I’ve stuck with it for 15 years no matter how ridiculous it’s got (I actually quite like the musical episode 😳) but if they storyline is that Alex has just upped and left, then I think even I can’t carry on watching. It would be a complete character assassination after so many years of growth

Alex had the BESTEST character development out of everyone throughout the entire show in all 16 seasons and him leaving Jo and Meredith just like that is not him 😭 I am so upset and devastated that he's written off just like that 😭

Chambers departure was rather abrupt. There's gotta be a damn good reason for him to not finish the current season.
It probably came down to a contract/money issue. The longer the show is on the air and the longer actors stay as a character, the higher their pay goes. With Ellen Pompeo making as much as she does (not saying she doesn’t deserve it, she does), the salaries for her, Bailey, and Weber are extremely expensive. It was probably time for a new contract for Justin Chambers and they wouldn’t pay him what he & his agent were bargaining for. I’m sorry he’s gone, but he deserved more money, too. Even the “second tier” (Owen, Amelia, etc.) have now all been there some time, so their salaries are high now, too. It’s only a matter of time before this show ends, because at some point it’s going to become unaffordable for the network and production companies to continue on.
ok people lets stop with the 'trashy ending for alex after 16 years of character development' thing because first and foremost, izzie caused that development within himself and he will always end up with her no matter what. and it happened. they're together now. alex never forgotten about how he loves izzie.

My theory is that he got in an accident on the way to his Mom’s and will be in a coma. This would allow him to be in a place between life and death, just in case Justin wants to return at any point. It also doesn’t completely ruin 16 years of character development because everyone knows he would never abandon Jo or Mer like that. If they do lean that way I’m done with this show that’s all I know but my theory is coma
@Hudson Donald have you caught up and watched the episode where it’s explained yet? Because that is not what happened, and they did end up ruining his many years of character development after all. Also, just because a parent has a mental health condition does not necessarily mean the child will too. There is a genetic predisposition in some cases, but the environment plays a role as well so there are numerous factors deciding that. And please try to refrain from using words like “crazy” and “psychotic” or at least read up on the negative impact such words have before using them, they are very stigmatizing and dehumanizing. The brain can get sick just like any other organ, but people who are affected deserve love and understanding too. They didn’t choose to get sick because they can’t control that, but we choose to dehumanize them when we use words like this. I am not intending to attack you, I hope you understand. It’s just a very personal cause for me. I hope you have a lovely day!

I think Alex as much as he loves Jo, he realized that he always helped people in need. He knew that when he took jo in she was in trouble that she needed help. When he asked her to marry her , he was angry at his dad.When she did not want to marry he knew something was off. When Jo Violent husband showed up he was there to protect her. When they married he felt good everything what he wanted .When he dropped her at the mental institute as she was sick, he stayed strong to make sure she made it through and when she finally started to be able to take care of herself it hit him. He has been everybodies person ( Meredith, Jo etc) and Meredith was there for him sometimes. I think He left Jo because he knows she is in a great safe place now surrounded by friends and that she would never be alone at Grey's sloan hospital. He knows that his heart always loved Izzy more than anything in the world and that he just realized.
He went to visit Izzy and he found out that she has a child and that she admitted it was his, he lied at going to help his mum to do a dna ,to prove the child is his and to buy time as he did not want to repeat history like his father did.
He wanted to leave that hospital, before the airplane crash and he stayed there because he felt guilty of not being on the plane, derek death and meredith being hurt by a patient and all the people leaving the hospital.
Alex will have his own private practice and will keep in contact with Meredith . Meredith will become a sister for Jo too. She will take her in as a family as Jo will need a family to rely on.
Jo and link on the long run will start to have feeling for each other and they will end up together and adopt a child that is left at the station 19.

This is true character assassination. Out of all the characters in this show, he has grown so much and he loves Jo immensely and would never do that, especially when it was done with him. But maybe this is just a result of Greys overstaying its welcome...

I hate them for destroying Alex's character. The real Alex would never do that to Jo because he was always left behind.
They really should’ve just brought back Katherine Heigl for one episode so Izzie could tell Alex in person and we could actually SEE all of this happen for real and with the actual characters.
The creators and etc of Grey’s just need to move on and get over the drama with Katherine already. She has always said she would love to come back even for a guest appearance. Katherine has apologized and it happened so long ago.
What REALLY pisses me off about the Izzie situation (aside from how the way they wrote her off was absolutely terrible and SO out of character for her and basically Shonda destroyed Izzie’s character purely out of spite) is how they allowed Isaiah Washington to come back for Cristina’s goodbye even after what he said and did. His actions were SO MUCH WORSE and yet he continued to be on another popular show later on.
It makes sense that Cristina’s ending involved Burke for closure, but it’s still so unfair that Izzie couldn’t return for Alex’s goodbye since we all know that for Alex, it has always been about Izzie, she was always still a part of him.
I felt bad for Jo though. The writers built their relationship for years and years on this show just to end it with Alex saying he is not in love with her. 😐
He basically did the same thing to her that Izzie did to him when she first left.
When Alex left, I remember my sister saying he ended up leaving just like his father, and honestly, that's the biggest disservice to his character, he just left with a damn letter and nothing else as if it was just that simple and that it was for Izzy was just the icing for the crap cake because when he left her after she came back he said he deserved someone that treated him better than she did AND HE DID, it was such a good step forward, and then it was fucked up like this and ugh still hate it.
If Mer doesn't want Mcwidow I'd be happy to take him home.
Guys if you wanna blame someone, blame Justin for just up and leaving. Heck it took much convincing for him to even record the voiceover for the letter. That's very unprofessional to leave without any intimation. He should have done what Sandra did, let the writers know in advance he wanted to go. This is why we got a beautiful send off for Cristina, while Alex got all of his character development undone
I swear the writers never fail to make me ball my eyes out! Despite everything Alex and Jo have gone through together, the writers didn't give them their happy every after. Out of the million ways Alex could have been written off the show, does it really have to end hurting Jo? She's been through so much and just when she finally learned to trust someone, that someone ends up leaving her. This is a regression for Alex's character and the man we saw him grow into!
Id like to think he went off to talk to Jo's mom to knock some sense into her and then he shows up with the mom and her family so they can meet jo and get to know her. He just kept it a secret to not get her hopes up and make sure he got through to her and did everything he could. Im sure she would like her sons to meet their kickass surgeon older sister. at least thats what i hope happened to explain his disappearance. I am really hoping that he's secretly moving heaven and earth for Jo. how he would leave, i wouldn't now how they would right him off.

I think y’all upset Alex leaving the show instead of not realizing he only fell for jo because she was so much like Izzie in ways He was not interested in her until she told him about a bad childhood like he and izzie both shared. He also didn’t get into anything serious after izzie until jo. Yes he dated Lexi but he cried out for izzie when he was dying. Izzie wanted to save her marriage before she left he turned her down. And she only disappeared for sometime before that because she thought he was getting in the way of her job because he said she wasn’t at 100% to be back at work so soon after chemo. It’s always been izzie for Alex.

I feel like every character who wanted to leave Greys to further their career or because they didn’t click with their character anymore, or because they wanted to do something their character the writers didn’t agree with got written off in a nasty way that was the complete opposite of their character
They’re fucking DOCTORS. They can just write they left to other hospital like Cristina or Teddy the first time she left.

I don't want to see anybody get their heart broken but I was kinda through with Jo after she had her breakdown after meeting her mom and she completely shut Alex out. I'm glad he and Izzie reconnected and will raise their kids together. Obviously Alex's love and desire to be with Izzie was stronger than what he felt for Jo or he never could have left her. Love does not always follow what we know as logic. Amelia and Link won't last. Link and Jo will be endgame.
As horrible as this sounds, they MUST kill off his character.
NOTHING else would make sense.
Alex either:
Pulled an izzie, and is with izzie
Died or dying
Has amnesia
Left jo for real
Or escaped life

I disagree. I feel Jo had such a bad hand dealt to her this season and like she really needed Alex. Cudos to alex for stepping up but it felt so lazy.
I think it is not the best solution, but it isn’t that bad. Alex dying would have felt too sudden.
In my opinion it is a good closure for Karev because really even when Jo made him a better man, the love of his life was Izzie and nothing could change that. Jo and Karev deserved more but Izzie and Karev we're destinated for something else, something bigger like having a family

I have to disagree with most of the commentators. Alex must have gotten in touch with Izzie when he was contacting people for Meredith's medical board hearing. Upon approaching Izzie, he discovered he had two sons. He would do the right thing considering his own upbringing. He has grown so much as a character for the better. Him and Jo was really not that well put together. Re watch his struggle with Jo being in rehab in episode of this current season. They were both working in separate hospitals and he was no longer on the path of PEDS which is where his passion is. I think the writing team could have given him a better exit as in his own monologue though and not through letters. Alex did deserve a grandier goodbye.
I'm actually very happy that he ended up with Izzie. I loved them together.

Y'all, I've been saying this on many vids, I cannot stress my absolute heartbreak for Jo. I don't think I'll ever be over jolex. But something about the fact that our moody, scrappy, soft for peds, loyal, intelligent, caring, beautiful underdog got a big happy ending is sort of comforting.
Ok, in my mind, this is what happened. He went home to help his mother, who was still quite stable, but his sister Amber was not and that is why his mother needed help. They found Amber a spot in mental hospital that was available the next day. In the mean time, they got her a dose of emergency meds, they put her to bed and Alex filled her in on his life as she fell asleep. In the middle of the night Amber woke up, and still in a schizophrenic state, she kills her mother and Alex and pens these explanation letters to all the people Alex told her mattered to him. Then she hacked their bodies into pieces and dumped them in an old well behind the house. No one looks for Helen because they think Alex was coming to take her to live with them (something she mentioned she feared to a couple coworkers), and no one looks for Alex because he ran away to be with Izzy.
OH MY GOD, that is too dark and twisty even for Meredith!
As badly as I wanted Alex and Jo to end, I didn’t want it to happen like this. This is so out of character for him. He would never have left her no matter how bad things got. He would never leave anyone. Even when he had good reason, he never did. He was always the one getting left!
I have a feeling Hayes is going to end up being Mer’s new person. Cristina left that role for Alex to fill and now Alex is gone too. I don’t know if they will be romantic or not but I do know this man will be very important in her life moving forward.

It's intriguing how everyone is so mad about the writing that this ACTOR gave them no time to prepare for by ending his contract midseason.
Yeah, I mean, I'm not upset and I've never watched the series from beginning to end. I'm only on season 5 now and Alex is a jerk still. I doubt he really changes, even if he's good with babies. Big whoop. Arizona is good with kids and babies but they let her leave because I have no idea why. The reason Justin left is because of his own family so, the storyline does make sense! I wish people would research that before saying it doesn't make sense. Of course it does! Also, I hate when they say "Oh, Alex wouldn't have done that." Are you serious? Of course he would have! He loved Izzie, he was her true love! Sure, he "loved" Jo but it wasn't real love at all. He married her because he found someone else to fill the void that Izzie left, that's all Jo ever was, she was a replacement for the love he lost when Izzie left him.
I love that he ended up with Izzie because I think they are endgame but I think they definitely could have done it a lot better.

I’ve always hated the way Alex Karev left the show but now thinking about it, it makes sense. Alex was the most complicated character in this shown; we never knew what he was going to do or what he was thinking. His departure was unexpected but did truly highlight the complexity of his character. Just my opinion.
Do people not realize Justin is the one that just left the show he could have at least stayed to give his character a good send off bit didnt he just left so this is what the writers had to do
I hate when actors/producers whoever fault this really is, do this. Cutting out a Character without any explanation instead of giving them a farewell and a conclusion. I also prefer Alex dead instead of him leaving Jo. This would be so out of character
If this is really what Alex did then nobody and I mean NOBODY can ever trash Izzie again for leaving Alex. At least she came back to ask for forgiveness which Alex didn't accept.
Ok I know I would hate Alex leaving no matter what they did. However for Alex I really like this, because Alex has always taken care of others, put others first, to have him put himself first is a good way to see him leave.
