You likely realize by now that Epsom salt is not sodium but rather magnesium. If it deters a slug/snail it’s because maybe they don’t favor the texture. You’d NEVER use true salt in or near your garden but Epsom salts is fine as most plants like magnesium. Thanks guys! (SEARCY AR)
Great addition, thanks for sharing! Yes, it’s the rocky texture, which we now use wood chips to help deter them 😊
Watching from Papua new guinea and im inspired by your passion or way of life. This is the life I love to live after retirement working for 10 years in mining and agriculture industry. Im now 32. Subscribed to your channel and hit all notifications bells.
Thanks so much for your support! I would love to come to Papua New Guinea some day! We have many people from your island here in Hawaii as well. Mahalo 😊🤙🏽
Good tips Hunter! I was thinking the same thing with the salt affecting the soil. Good to know the salt perimeter fends them off.
Yeah, just as I sprinkled it around I thought about what all that salt might do to the soil. I think a perimeter further from the plants is probably best. Going to do that from now on.
Great and helpful video!!!👍👍👍
thanks Lucy!:)
On the Big island in our property we have a small amount of the African snails but a crazy amount of Cuban Slugs and Semi Slugs.
I am the might slug hunter at night. The come out at night out of the soil and from under rocks, slabs snd potted plants or wood piles.
I need to try the yeast trick cause they are out of control here and I get maybe up to 50 at night if I go out around 8:30/ 9:00 to cut them with scissors.
The Cuban slugs look like dead leaves that they love to eat or even albino ones as well as a tan color.
They love basil and comfrey.
Thanks for sharing that! Cutting them in half with scissors and doing hunts at night never fail😊
I use a band of sand around the base of my raised beds and a band around the edges of my veggies, works great and doesn’t harm my plants
I like that option, we intend to get a sand load dumped soon so we will try it :)
Hi, new subscriber. I enjoyed your video and had a thought about the beer. I mix dried yeast with some sugar and warm water to make the traps and they seem to like that. Saves money on beer. Thanks
Yes, great option because the yeast is what really draws them in!
Drunk snails
Pretty much haha
