Remember- there is no such thing as 'totally decimated' To decimate something is to divide it into 10 parts To rid your garden of slugs and snails simply dust wood ash around your plants and the the slugs will not cross it- especially when its damp. wood ash is highly alkaline and it depletes their slime. They cant move without slime.
Thank you for this tip! Great way to use my wood ash.
Manual control - I don't use detergent or gloves. The slime makes for great hand moisturizer and any slugs or snails that try to get out can just be swished back into the bucket. In the morning, the dead creatures can be poured out onto the lawn for birds to devour or put into the compost.
Thanks for the tip on the sugar, yeast & water! I didn't want to waste any beer, but it might encourage me to get back into making sourdough and trying that. Strangely, the sweet, yeasty solution is similar to one recommended for a wasp trap to protect our bees.
I use a different method for protecting my vegetables like tomatoes, eggplants, peppers and the like, also some of my tropicals that get the most damage.Take a piece of aluminum foil and cut a 6-8 circle, cut a 1 inch hole in the center, then cut from the edge of the circle to the center of the hole so you can place it around the base of the plant like a collar, poke some drainage holes on the aluminum, place some pebbles on the edge of the aluminum foil collar to keep it in place. It works the same way copper does, interacts with the slime underbelly of the slug to give it a sock, they can not crawl over this "barrier " guaranteed.
Hi after 50 years gardening i have used nettles and brambles as a mulch chop up and change often basically we don't like getting stung and the slugs dont either happy gardening Richard x
I didn't know that just a yeasty mix can cause them to drown, i thought it had to be alcoholic, very interesting. My beer traps are working thank goodness as I'm being annihilated by them in Scotland 😢. Going to try the mix you suggested, great video thank you 😊

Thank you! This was very informative. I hope to get a run on SNAILS that appeared in my flowerbeds in Tacoma, WA this past summer for the first time. I have no idea where they came from. Now in Nov/Dec I am finding baby snails various places. I wonder if I should put some Sluggo already now as beer/yeast traps will be rapidly diluted by rain.
I've read the slugs love bran, which when ingested, causes dessication and death
and love the tips also my sister HATES them

Very informative! I’m in Central Florida and it’s July. The heavy downpours of rain daily has started. I should have not planted anything during July and August as I had planned. Anyway, learning can be painful. There are alligators in the water behind my house so I’m not going out at dusk, needless to say. Just really enjoyed your video.
Thank you! Lots of rain does make gardening difficult.
War in my garden. Tried everything! the only thing that helps against snails in my garden is electricity. Connect 2 copper wires to the minus and plus terminal of a 9 volt battery. place the battery in a waterproof box and connect the cables. works great.

so I should have not used table salt to kill the slugs
Thank you for all the tips!! I am going to try the diy beer trap the way you did yours. I've tried doing it in a shallow dish with beer and have not had any luck. I am also looking for as many natural forms to control the slug population in my garden. My dog likes to be in and around everything, so i trying to stay away from anything that she could come in contact with from being curious. I have also heard about the copper trick, so I need to try that one too.
I’m glad it was helpful! Slugs can be tricky to manage. I plan to get ducks next year as well for slug control. Good luck this garden season!
