I actually think it was meant to be the ending theme. The title of the track is Final Sin- Sandy's City, and the first part actually plays after you defeat the Icon of Sin, before E1M1 plays instead. It works really well here, too, of course.
@@obama_man9933 they said the track sounded too 8-bit gamey, which is a reaaallly stupid reason especially considering things like the old computer that let you play doom 1 and 2 and the one ups referencing how they looked in older games, this track was perfect for the ending.

this actually works because when you think about it DOOM 2016 was just a revamp of DOOM 1 and Eternal did the same with 2
