  • BJJ 101: when you are starting out with a sparring session try not to expose your ankle. That is true on the feet but definitely if you are starting out on the knees. Starting with your knee pointed before your ankles allows you to be defense of ankle pics but also keeps you offensive to split someone’s guard.
