You lost to Matt the guy I learned from. I think you were focused on testing out your shit. What happened to corps guard. Lol. Kajan of old would hsve finished him in 2 minutes
That hook and sweep he is really good at that. First thing he taught us.
What religion are you, is your great power from your warrior spirit?
@@veteransowhat5669 I’m not sure what religion to follow tbh. I see truth in many similar to the way I see martial arts. I’m kinda just bumbling my way around the earth trying to learn from everywhere
@@coachkajan where are you Master?
Love what you’re doing. that you’re testing your theory in real application with no ego attached. very impressive and thank you
NOT " WEIRD" IF IT WORKS....Staying standing and not WILLINGLY GOING TO THE GROUND...GREAT JOB
👊🏽👊🏽
these are probably the most unusual matches most of the spectators have watched
What???
That style threw both those guys for a loop.
Yup Primal Kombat for the win
We need to learn more about this Primal style.
The art of rolling while standing. Genius.
Perfect style for MMA grappling.
1:21 If slamming is not allowed, they shoulnd't allow people to climb and hang on either. Not only is it not fair, that sh-t is stupid. BJJ is slowly becoming too much of a sport and getting watered down like Karate was in 80's.
Agreed 1000%. In Primal Kombat slamming is completely legal.
💯 . Also I couldn’t believe that Kajan didn’t get points for the judo throw. No wonder bjj is almost obsolete in mma
@@nasirjones580 ya apparently it didn’t score because he was coming up from the ground and I returned him to it. Definitely a flaw in their system.
I would say it's getting watered down pretty rapidly.
Bring back daki age 😂😂😂😂😂
Top notch! "Weird" isn't bad. Sometimes "weird" is "better" when put to the test!
👊🏽💯
Such a peculiar , fearless style. A brazen style
Appreciate you 👊🏽
That was just non aggressive jiu jitsu. Nothing combat about that. All you did was stall the bottom guy and that looked exactly like most of the black belt matches at ibjjf worlds
Once you know, you’ll know 😉
@@coachkajanin a actual combat situation the opponent would be slept from ground strikes
By stall do you mean “failed to be swept or submitted”?
When you’re in a real fight and stay on the bottom, you lose .
@@sinclairj7492you mean like Anderson Silva lost the title to chael sonnen from the bottom with a triangle? Ohh wait...
That was JiuJitsu, bro
-grip fighting
-headquarters etc guard passing
-whizzer > uchi mata
-mounted triangle
Yeah who would confuse any of that for Jiu Jitsu
Love this. Ive gone through quite a few neck injuries over the years and I've come to a similar conclusion. The old masters weren't dumb and there was a reason that simplicity was key. Stay higher than your opponents, and developing a great understanding and practice of kuzushi can take you a loooong way
The second guy was really driving his feet up your groin man. He definitely knew what he was doing
It’s all good I have Jiu Jitsu balls.
🎉😂😂😂😂😂😂@@coachkajan
Advantages I'm see so far is that keep such high posture makes it harder for an opponent on bottom to gain controlling grips. As a bjj professor I teach posture as the most important element of guard, so this tracks with that. The down side I'm seeing is that you are keeping your center of gravity high which makes it easier for certain sweeps to be applied. I noticed once you dropped your center briefly to gain balance before coming back up tall. I'm a huge fan of knee on belly so some of your concepts apply to the way I do that. The big difference I see in what you are doing is that you stand more in situations where I would normally drop my hips, but we both keep a strong posture. One of the other advantages I'm seeing is that with your mentality is that even when you are off balanced or swept you aren't accepting it, and have a constant fight to stay in a top position. This is a huge advantage and I have particular drills to teach this concept. With two equally matched fighters the one on top will almost aways win. As a smaller guy I have found over the years that rolling with someone near my level and with them being larger, I'm at a huge disadvantage on bottom. I try to stay on top a s much as possible and keep high knee on belly positions which tends to force them to reach up and expose their arms or opportunity for me to advance position. When I'm with guys closer to my weight class, I'm more likely to go more traditional and smash them in normal side controls, but larger opponents tend to reverse positions on me when I stay tight in the exact same positions that smaller guys wouldn't.
Worm guard is a bitch, u gotta detangle early. Nice fights.
Is that what that’s called? Pretty cool.
@@coachkajan Yes. Worm guard was developed by Keenan Cornelius and is very, very frustrating because of how powerful the positions can be. But, it obviously only works in a gi.
Really enjoyed the last two videos. That lo fi hip hop is a nice touch.
👊🏽
Here are some hints to help others understand better.
"I'm not gonna use jiu-jitsu" was stated in the beginning just primal combative grappling techniques.
Cambat stems from an old Latin term, 'Batuere', which means simple, 'to fight'.
Fight - verb: take part in a violent struggle involving the exchange of physical blows or the use of weapons. Fight - noun: a violent confrontation or struggle.
When looking at his very simple sentence structure in his speech, we are left with a lesser archaic definition to the use of the word 'combat'.
Due to his choice of words, 'combat' here is used for in this modern moment, a tournament style verbiage. There for changing 'combat' to: take action in order to reduce or prevent (something bad and/or undesirable). In the spirit of competition, these two individuals engaged in a safe competitive form of combat. Making them 'combative combatants'.
Combative - adjective: ready or eager to fight; pugnacious.
Combatants - noun: a person engaged in conflict or competition with another.
The 'primal' aspects to all of this would be the physical dominance one can show during competition. Which was displayed with his control in both matches. A very passive approach
10:43 that did look like a reap at 1st glance - i assume that's what he was checking to see if you were torquing so a little nudge as to not ruin your position. I've never seen that position naturally held so long either haha he was probably confused if i had to guess
Ya I don’t care about reaps anyway. What a dumb rule.
Your idea is full circle and I fully appreciate it!!!! It’s just like Liddell standing the whole ufc back up!! Props, good job and you are a smart person I’d venture
Had the pleasure to watch your most recent video explaining your style, only to not check the other recent videos and susequently got the backstory and am watching this shit pulling for you sooooo hard dude,
This is good. I love seeing it progress!
omg is that Matt Kwan of BJJ Mental Models actually working the infamous taint sweep on you??? hahahaaa im dying
Yep, sure is
Just watched your latest video with the principles. Can see them working in full effect here.
I really enjoyed this!
This is f**king awesome!
really interested in seeing this in more tournaments, especially in some that allow heel hooks
I would love to learn it again with this new twist. It's almost mix of both world!
It makes sense… So many attacks are set up with anticipated reactions, so if you react to the same scenario with different actions it will make mounting any serious offense very difficult for your opponents.
I like it, in a real fight youre in perfect position to land strikes and or run if need be, it totally neutralizes your opponent and you can still attack subs during your opponents desperation
I like that two heels on the package technique that second guy pulled 😂
lol ya pretty funny
Primal enough? 😂
Why did that first guy even get an advantage, that was weird.
You're in the viod, my friend. You're competing with the system, not the man. Good shit.
@2:43 The moment he just stood over him and they both paused. I understood he was barely trying and the guy under him knew he was outclassed. Second fight was a fun watch a clash of styles there.
That was awesome. System is working very nicely! Slightly different rules and you'd tear them up!
GI Bjj Is trash I hate it 😂 Everytime I see you caught in one of those dumb positions you probably just want to hammerfist ko the guy. The gi just encourages way too much holding and guard pulling. Can you do another No Gi?
For sure I will, likely in July
if you can win a trial or even an open that'll be absolutely cool! I think head height has been quite heavily emphasized among the competitive teams in Austin and especially Danaher's people. CJ had been saying "just stand up" for a while but apparently when going for the finish you'll have to close that distance.
It's great your testing it out, on not just saying trust me bro
Great work 🫵💥
You can see how for real self-defence, this is very specific and limited . As good as BJJ is, it's too sport oriented now, and in a street situation, options are unlimited.
Yup. BJJ used to focus on self defense and was fairly effective at least for 1v1.
If you train at a modern sport BJJ place, don’t delude yourself into thinking that you’re learning to defend yourself.
Unlimited? Nah. Always limitations. Space limitations. Limitations in the ability of the opponent. Strength limitations. Limitations to available improvised weapons.
I have been doing combat grappling for 25 years but this guy made it primal.
This is what happens when you let Canadians compete with civilized folks. And now that you let one Canadian in…… Lord help us…. Haha, beautiful Oguruma for ippon first match btw. Bringing some entertainment to the old game of keep the guard, pass the guard.
Haha doing my best! Isn’t it funny that the move that would win a judo match doesn’t even score a point under ibjjf rules?
@@coachkajan
Was thinking the same thing and was wondering how you didn’t get 2 for it
@@HoboSammiches He didnt get points because after throwing the guy he landed in his guard. You cant get points if you throw someone but end up in guard. On the flipside, in judo you get points for any throw even if your opponent rolls you through and you end up on bottom. So each ruleset has pro's and cons.
The Japanese used to call this standup form, jujutsu, before it became codified into judo for sport. Its hard to submit people this way, but in the old days you were deploying weapons to end the guy on the ground which was easier to do standing.
Id recommend loose wrist control while standing to move him around.
Your style looks much better for an mma or real fight situation as most of the time you where in positions where you could destroy your opponents if striking or slamming was allowed.
Unluckily, while being more realistic it is hard to get submissions from those positions which is what gets you points in the competition.
I just discovered this channel and this new style of grappling, you need to go check out Tim Kennedy he had a very similar style of grappling very top heavy head up.
why wasn't he able to sweep you around 12 minutes when he got you into the electric chair/splits??
He couldn’t compromise my structure side to side or front to back.
Left hand and right foot were posting so he was able to keep somewhat of a base
Im going to try and use your concepts brother.
What’s different about your primal vs. regular style?
The hierarchy of moves and positions.
@tristargymwestcoast can you elaborate or do you have this written down somewhere? This looks and feels a lot like how I try to teach. I use to call it caveman jiujitsu. Start with objectives and gross motor movements focusing on positional feeling over technical checklist
I like how you dealt with those guard pullers. If I remember correctly didn't Rickson and Royce Gracie criticize guard pulling?
I have a non aggressive style as well that is essentially this with smash passing. Any tips for a 42 yeard old who has only been in the game for 7 years?
Last fight you're getting your weight over a point but he controls where the point is by strong grips. He made you balance defensively and could wait for a misstep to exploit.
With more time, his grips would’ve corrupted and the point I was over would’ve been higher and higher.
@@coachkajan posture is the king with your style, but his lapel grip was super annoying because even when you stand all the way up it doesn't put much pressure on his hands. He has to put a lot of effort into keeping his legs elevated, maybe it's better to aim to fatigue the core by attacking his foot position? Strip the guard by the toes, rotate the foot inward because he can only go outwards.
Greetings! First of all, your work is great, thumbs up! I think you need to add a bit of passing in the style of the Ruotollo brothers, with their leg stomps, I think it feads there. I myself started to pass through junior belts in kind of your style, but at senior belts I switch to pressure passes, but this is more of a psychological moment. It seems that with more weight pressure there is more control. Will work more on that stuff, thank you 😊.
No toe holds allowed? Or not allowing yourself to do a toe hold?
This reminds me of the idea of camping but while standing to wear your opponent out
Lez get primal!!!! ❤
Wait you can watch your matches on smooth comp?
Theres only so many ways the body can move.
This is how i was taught jiu-jitsu/grappling. We call it "backwards". Simply always working out a position of disadvantage.
"I'm not gonna use jiu-jitsu." Proceeds to use jiu-jitsu...
🔥🔥🔥
👊🏽🚀🙏🏽
The first guy had some annoying gestures whenever you got away from the ground, like dude, submit him dont beg your opponent to come to the ground 😅
Great examples of your system. The second opponent showed me your head control philosophy it was really impressive
The style is very unusual that people will say “wtf” 😂 bro the style looks so strange but seems effective i wish you revolutionized the modern grappling and make it a style of it’s on
This I how I’ve always naturally tried to pass guard because I have good balance and long limbs. Everyone always makes fun of me for it and a lot of the time it feels like I really don’t know what I’m doing so I just end up laying back on a leg and going for a leg lock.
Saying your style isn't Jiu Jitsu feels disrespectful to the art. Your level is high enough to dominate this group of competitors easily so you're able to relax . You're not Eddie Bravo yet
So were the Gracie’s also being disrespectful to Judo when they called it Brazilian JiuJitsu? What about Kano Jigoro, was he being disrespectful to the Samurais of JuJitsu? There will always be innovation and evolution in martial arts. Lost of things I do in PKG are illegal in BJJ so how is it still BJJ?
@@coachkajan This dude literally did nothing special he only demonstrated that he could get sloppy and still beat this low level group
@@coachkajan Have u ever heard a Jiu Jitsu fighter say an armbar is not Judo? No we all know Judo Ne Waza is in the roots of Jiu Jitsu. We don't execute a lazy Osotogari and say my style definitely isn't Judo I made this up
@@aarronmoore2158 you do not understand Primal Kombat Grappling. If it was legal to use in its entirety in Jiu Jitsu than I would agree with you. It is not though. It is too savage to be called Jiu Jitsu
@@coachkajan I understand grappling. You're no Eddie Bravo
how to maintain your perfect posture, drive away your opponent's center of gravity, without the latter ever having ours.
Putting pressure on your opponent does not necessarily mean chest to chest.
What's more, by doing so, once the decisive position is in place, the opponent has a much more difficult time defending the finish.
Excellent!
I can see that this style will shut down jiu jitsu !! Keep up the good work 🖐️👺 five stars !! When you complete the system and you make an instructional video set i'll definitely will get them !! ❤
interesting I people say that BJJ evolved into better and stronger, yet it seemed to have evolved into something that couldn't figure out to solve the riddle to solve situations like this. It seems you have to fight knowing their system.
BJJ isn't designed for fighting. He's using a MMA/Japanese style Jujitsu in a game so it stopped the action.
So what is it? Stay on top and keep your head away ?
This is weird Jiu-Jitsu that works, calling another style is bullshit 😂
When you know you’ll know
Yep 👍
What was the ref adjusting at 10:44?
I think he was checking for a reap? No clue but sources have said the refs weren’t very happy with either of us.
foot not supposed to be tangled inside the gi. Like put your fingers inside the cuffs.
@@timproc9355 ahh ok makes sense
@@coachkajan yea weird reaction by the ref he was an hour late on that lol. It’s almost like he wanted you to get swept.
@@timproc9355 apparently the refs were upset with both of us. 🤷🏽♂️
Is that the famous “ just stand up” technique?
It’s the infamous “don’t fall down”
You can't be primal combat anything without being rooted in aggression. Which I guess makes guys like Vagner Rocha and Palhares (BJJ Broly😂) Primal combat grapplers. You're definitely on to something though and I think it will show more in future tourneys 🤙
U have judo base ?
😅😅😅"I'm not going to use jiu jitsu, I'm going to use primal combat grappling = old school jiu jitsu
Hi kajan. Ive never trained. I was wondering why when your standing and have their leg locked up, why not do a quick spin and dislocate their knee/hip or rip the knee?
You generally have to give your opponent at least SOME chance to "submit" ( ie surrender to a joint attack) even if that's quite brief - Hence why they're usually called submissions. Besides, breaking bones doesn't actually earn you a win! That said even at black belt there may also be some joint attacks that aren't allowed at all (usually due due to high chance and/or severity of injury) depending on the comp rules.
Roger Gracie once broke his opponent's arm (they wouldn't submit) and still lost by overall points!
I don't think Judo's departure from JJ and gracie's departure from judo are fair comparisons to what you're doing here. Those were situations with huge differences. Jigoro kano stripped out striking and weapons from JJ to create judo. The gracies took judo and heavily focused on newaza rather than tachiwaza to create bjj. What you're doing here (at least in the video) is just your own game of bjj with really good balance, flexibility and sweep defense which is really frustrating your guard playing opponents ... Having said all that, I agree with you that ruleset is everything. If you were to launch a new sport with a different rule set, then yes, you could legitimatelty call it something else, but until then all you have is your own funky game of bjj.
I hear what you’re saying. I have plans for events in the future but first I am going to compete in every grappling format I am able to while using my system. After that I will run my own event with my own rules and invite specialists from all other arts to it.
You're in Your Prime and have Power to fight like that but when you became more old you will have to change your style and became more technical.
But you have to be a black belt in bjj before you can use your technique?
Only thing that makes BJJ what it is is the closed guard. Good on you for not butt scooting.
The first guy was embarrassing to watch. Also awesome judo throw 👏. And the second guy was just holding on for dear life to get the point victory
Sponsored by Air Canada ✈️
The first guy is a very noble man and an amazing black belt. I was sat next to his family while he competed. Great guy.
Quick question. Are we allowed to put the knee on people when doing Ju Jit Su ? He put the the on that dude a few times. Just curious. I’m new to it and I was told no
I was trying to ask the refs while I was doing it. No one said anything so I just continued.
Generally, yes that’s allowed. Your coach is probably just being careful with your lack of control bc nobody wants a knee dropped on their nose breaking it when it’s a hobby
This is either God given grappling style - or an exposition of the supremacy of mathematics: which is really kinda the same thing ;p. Very well done! This primal grappling is where its @.
I mean, I don't see the distinction. You see black belts moving as smooth but then following up with pinning and submission. I'm failing to the see the benefit of this. It's one aspect of the total concept of grappling. It's like being a world champion at judo, yet not knowing ground work, incomplete.
i have a question about mixed martial arts.I aspire to be a ufc fighter but all i know is karate im 13 years old and i feel like if i dont make up my mind soon it will be pointless. what should i learn after karate?
Typically people train Boxing, Wrestling, BJJ and Muay Thai but if it's available you should just find an MMA gym if its MMA you want to train.
At our gym, we train all of those and combine it in MMA practises
@@coachkajan may i join your gym?
some things to consider. 1 most ufc fighters are in their late 20s to early 30s, so you've got some time. 2 karate isn't a bad base if you train it right. 3 mma doesn't pay all that well compared to most sports. I recall a video of a guy who fought pro recommending that boxing and wrestling should be the main focus, and especially if you already know karate, assuming you really do know it well, then you probably already have good kicks anyway.
@yamiyomizuki thank u so much I just genuinely love mma I don't really care for the money
You passed the guard, got technical mount and submission by triangle, just normal BJJ
So idk if you can say it's a weird style. It was clearly deliberate to try and always stand up. I didn't see you going for any attacks and standing so stiff with no answer to anyone shooting in makes it very vulnerable. The good thing you did was have great control to avoid getting sucked into traditional guards etc. Also, great work applying pressure with your knees and body weight, that's the key part that was impressive and should be looked into more. Just keep listening to some feed back, I think you may be onto something.
I think for mma it is perfect but less for jiu-jitsu matches, its looks like it is hard to create a submission from that style
First time hearing about Primal Kombat. Tell me more.
I studied jiu jitsu in a school for a year and a half. Its to time consuming plus energy draining. Avoiding ground grappling is the best defense. Some other martial artists are following this trend. Not playing the game of ground grappling is working.
System for the Master level? (Ibjjf Masters)
I believe it to be a system for all forms of grappling. I will also be competing in Judo, Freestyle, Cacc, Greco and if I can find it Sambo.
No score for the throw? Wild!
look like husband and wife fighting, and wife is desperately trying to hold onto someone who don't love him anymore.
I like this. I’ll take any tips to defend leg locks. In my mind, PKG summed up is upper body takedowns, top position focused, and safe elevated head placement away from the ground and opponent. (Protects against guillotine choke) 🧐🙂
Yes its that and more. Leg lock defence needs a whole video of explanation and honestly Im still figuring it out. The basis of the theory is make your legs as heavy as possible by keeping your weight over them and ideally keeping your feet on the ground.
I don’t see how this approach isn’t going to open you up to lower body attacks. Your legs look very exposed and it wouldn’t take a huge off balance to get your heal off the mat.
I really hate this style of grappling and think it doesnt work overall, but i think your guard passing may work well if you add a high-step system like Nicky Ryan does. You had so many opportunities to step out of the X guard and your leg mobility would work perfectly with a good high-step.
Respect that you genuinely compete against good grapplers to test yourself
I loved this video btw. You should show us some.bjj sparring of you vs ali and and jamie etc. These types of videos usually do very well. I loved it. You so totslly could have won. You literally were having too much fun negating his efforts though. And he is really good so that was impressive. Gi bjj id kinda lame but you made it fun. You have training under john Danaher so i knownyou could have mighty moused the whole tourney in a gi but you just love proving a point. Point taken your style is effective and strickland would approve lol
It’s more about testing the system than proving a point but it was a lot of fun nonetheless.
have u ever did combat bjj? or combat wrestling?
Not yet but I will
surf passing
...or is it all on line?
Will we see you try Primal Combat Grappling against other styles and their tournaments? Like maybe wrestling?
Yes I’m going to do a Freestyle Wrestling tournament at SFU in December. I have a No Gi 8 man tournament coming up on Fightpass July 15th for which I will use the Primal Kombat Grappling approach.
Having good base and posture when a guy is trying to sweep is just the fundamentals of bjj and nothing new.
What was weird about it. What’s the theory?
