I was at the concert in the Magic Mountain parking lot. I won the tickets from local radio station Ten-Q. They played a full concert. Same as their Love Gun Tour.
I saw this the nite it aired. I was 10, spending the nite at my friends house- as kids did back then.. I'll never forget it. It was 2nd time seeing my heroes on tv... God, it was magical ! Unfkngbelievable 🔘🔘
Hahahha I was 11 when this came out and like you, I was staying over night a friend place while awaiting Halloween. I can clearly remember a box of chocolate coconut fingers, salt and vinegar chips and I think root-beer to chase it all down The excitement leading up to watching this movie was indeed magical and I can still feel that joy you and I both felt the night this came on television WOW WHAT A NIGHT TO REMEMBER... Cheers from Vancouver Canada.
A concert themed movie was filmed but never fully used in 1980 during their Australia tour, part of it became "The Inner Sanctum", an hour long documentary.
@@JENDALL714 there were supposed to plans back in the early 80's to make a movie based on The Elder album, but when the album itself flopped, the plans were scrapped.
I bought this on VHS tape back in 1996 at Walmart. I was slightly disappointed when they cleaned up the re-release for DVD years later and added in a whole new soundtrack. I enjoyed watching this air on TV back in 1992 around Halloween time. I wish they'd release it again without restoration and keep it true to how it originally aired back in the day. Yes it was a very cheesy film, in fact, an embarrassment, but the original is fun to watch. Awesome introduction. That was my favorite even though laughable.
I wouldn’t go as far to say the movie is an embarrassment. It was good fun 🤩. I seriously doubt the purpose was to put something out that was Oscar worthy.
I remember when this aired as a TV special as a kid about 8 Visiting my folk's friends - the daughter n I were the same age. She knew more about Rn R than I did, lol. We sat down in front of the TV ... and she squealed with delight over the KISS heroes in a movie 🐱👤
Hard to believe I was actually alive when this aired, though I would have been way too young to remember it. Seems like teenagers then had a lot more fun. Our culture really is regressing.
Every generation thinks the next generation is regressing. l'm old enough to remember my grandparents saying the culture was regressing because of the Beatles
Watched this at my buddy's home,we young tweens and Kiss fans, the movie was not I thought it could have been, heck it was a total piece of crap, but the concert blew me away.all the classic Kiss songs, that part was the best part.
If your a little ten year old you may actually enjoy this, especially if you have no idea what KISS is about. If you are a huge KISS fan, then don't waste your time.
I remember being so excited the week leading up to this finally airing on television. Sat in my room and watched it. When it was over I experienced my first big disappointment in this band and it turned out to be just one of many wake-up calls that I was most certainly done with this stupid shit. The final straw was the night their piece aired on ABC's 20/20 program a few years later that was done during the Dynasty tour. By then I found myself listening to them far less anyways and had certainly stopped wasting my money on ANYTHING kiss. I was 14 years old at the time. That show ended and I just said to my buddy who was there with me .. "You know, these guys are just assholes all around. It really is all about the hype and marketing" We BOTH threw our kiss albums into the garbage the next day and continued looking into much more real music and searching out for new bands to enjoy. This decision by us both helped us discover bands like Rush, Rainbow, Be Bop Deluxe and made me even further get into bands I already cared about like Deep Purple and Black Sabbath. Even today as I watch clips from this shit movie for a few moments, it makes me see even more how everything with them was a publicity stunt and another marketing opportunity to pound for every dollar possible. It's not even nostalgic or funny because it's so bad. Just pathetic. I'm glad it bombed and I'm glad they did it. It served as a major eye-opening experience to those who were actually paying attention. Sure, EVERY band promotes themselves, has merch, and needs to make money ... but with kiss, it's THE most important thing. The music is lame and only serves to be a soundtrack to the marketing machine that masquerades as a real band. Completely sicking. Of course, there are the simple-minded and easily amused people who will eat this all up like its not sugar-coated shit.
I had the exact same reaction to this when I watched it! It was one of the many nails in the Kiss coffin that came along in 1978. Another nail was provided by the 4 awful solo albums. I'm a 9 year old kid, I can barely scrape together enough change to buy one new Kiss album, let alone 4 if I want to hear their new material, because these dopes can't pull their crap together enough to make a new group Kiss album. Then came the Mego Kiss dolls and it was obvious it was all about marketing and merchandising at that point. But the biggest nail in the coffin that sealed Kiss' fate in 1978 was Van Halen's debut album! Once I heard VH1, all my Kiss albums and related merchandise became instant garage sale fodder!
Deep Desertt It was renamed as ATTACK OF THE PHANTOMS as a full theatrical release (played in movie theaters) in foreign markets. Also the the ATTACK version is slightly different in running order (editing). You can find the theatrical ATTACK OF THE PHANTOMS version on KISSOLOGY 2.....

Yeah, I was doing the same thing that night. I was amazed at the time, and it cemented KISS in my life forever. I was amazed at their “powers.” 🤣
Best made for tv movie ever!
When this first aired on 📺 i saw it i was 8yrs old it introduced me to 💋 Kiss. I have never forgotten it.
Imagine if they had done a concert movie, in theaters, instead. It could have been their "Song Remains The Same."

Would have been as crap as this
Yeah - they should have made a concert movie BEFORE Phantom. An "Alive II" concert movie more or lass - that was their peak!

TheVictrolaLady what new soundtrack did they add?

Loved it as a kid and still love it now!
"Produced by Jospeh Barbara
The same guy that did Yogi bear and the Flintstones produced a KISS movie
I see the problem now
The best part is when those chicks are showing Gene everything they got with their Ronco tape recorder!
Greatest intro ever!!!!

It’s all about Gene - gotta be the first one

Without this, there could be no ‘Blood Ocean’. Thank you.
I KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!!!!!?

The films rubish but this intro is amazing!

Ace Frehley. 💞⚡
Hey maybe I'll get this movie on DVD for Christmas!
@74 torino That’s right
Mst3k needs to riff this!!! 😂
I remember when I was like 8 or 9 years old watching this on TV for the first time
Just like I like my nachos. Cheesy with extra cheese, and then more cheese.
Ack!
I still don't understand why kiss never invested in a amusement park ride.they could design some cool rides 🤔 😎 😕 😐
You know it's a bad movie when Red Letter Media discusses it on Best of The Worst.
Peter Criss is the STAR! Okay. So this and Beth will be it. Nothing else.
How it feels to chew 5 gum
fuck!!!!!
the best band in the world yeah!!!
YOU WANTED THE BEST, YOU GOT THE BEST!!!!..THE HOTTEST BAND IN THE WORLD!!!.......KISS!!!!!

That film is everything Ki$$: Crass, weak, shallow, exists solely for $$$, and lame.
I seen many movies, as a movie fan and a KISS fan I'll say this, I seen better and I seen worst, this movie is okay
Goofy as hell but nostalgic.
Corniest movie opening ever.
Gayest movie ever.
Bad film, rushed and sloppy to capitalize on kiss popularity.
They are horrible actors they did not need to make this movie it’s all wrong.
horrible quality
How is this movie any worse than The Warriors?
Absolutely amazing in its absurdity and utter stupidity. A must see horrible film.
