Hi Neil, I noticed you were only wearing a paper particulate mask... Probably best to wear a 3M half face mask with a vapour filter for these types of paint dude 👍
I’ve not painted with a gun, but I have recently carried out some paint repairs on my Giulietta (it’s Maranello red - lovely, but a pig to match). I used decent rattle cans - but the nerve wracking process was the lacquer……horrid! It looks ok - good enough for me anyway! The 155 is looking excellent though - nice work!
Good effort Neil, you’ve done a cracking job on that. Not sure if you can do it in your unit, but, a good little tip is to put water on the floor around the car before you spray it to suppress any dust on the floor and stop it ending up on your panel. Obviously you don’t want it swimming in there so a garden sprayer works the best to get a good mist of water on the floor but will dry and evaporate later on when you’re done.
I learnt to paint in R Royce in the early 1980s with non friendly materials. As you're doing it in just a garage, I'd be well happy with the finish you're achieving Neil.
Thanks for also sharing the mistakes on the way. And also thanks for showing, that you can get great results in a not perfect environment! That gives me hope and the right techniques so I also can do a decent garage paintjob on my Tipo 8V Turbo next spring.
looks awesome Neil ......one thing i wished ide learnt wash bodywork ....... can pull apart and rebuild a Fiat 20v engine with my eyes shut yet make a complete mess of a set of mirror caps i tried to paint pnce
hi,good progress...I have a problem with my Alfa 155 1.6 16v ts 1996...oil pan needs to be replaced,it cracked,a bolt is loosed....today I raned on some higher ground and damadged oil pan...oil is gone, stopped the car ,engine is fine....thx
Love the 155s! Not trying to be pedantic but Lacquer is furniture paint made from shellac. To my knowledge it has never been used to paint cars. What you are putting on there in clear coat not lacquer.
If there is anything more boring than watching paint dry it's masking lol. Seriously speaking, what admirable patience you have to get it just right! Even some so called "professionals" would probably have said, 'eh good enough".
Amazing Neil, as painter myself not sure what compound you are using but I always used to use Farecla G3 for the first stage much quicker and will easily remove 1500 scratches followed by 3m finesse it to get the swirls out, hope that helps. keep up the good work👍
@@ItaliaAutos sometimes u can get airfeds cheap of ebay I paid £100 for devilbiss one (provisor) I use 1500 or 2000 dry to start with then 3000 wet (spray bottle) easier to polish up
Looks great 👍 In terms of dust control, I’ve seen some people wet the floor before starting, not sure if that would work in your shop but might be worth a try . Can’t wait to see it on the road
If your simple face mask is as good as your old respirator you should buy a new proper respirator and wear disposable protective clothing to keep the spraying environment as dust free as possible not to mention having a proper spray booth. I know you’re doing the job for yourself but would what you are doing be acceptable to a discerning customer ?
As always you are doing a great job keeping old Alfa's on the road. Really good work.
Cheers. Thanks for watching
Absaloutly brilliant video neil❤👍she looks beautiful cracking paint job brilliant
Glad you enjoyed it

Can't remember when I saw 155 on the road 😊
Not many around
Your content is great, just enough detail and explanation, mixed with your natural humour.
Glad you enjoy it!
We will never learn if we don’t try Neil ….great effort 💪
Cheers. Thanks for watching
@@ItaliaAutos, have you got an email address I have a problem with my brera and really could do with your advice, thanks in advance
Great work again Neil as always.
Sorry to hear about your painter friend 🙏😔
Yeah it was a shock. Thanks for watching
I actually still realy love the 155. It"s a beautiful Alfa

Good call!

Thanks for the comment. Much better finish with a gun

Yeah I did that before but managed to soak the floor and kept flicking water up onto the paint so I hoovered the floor a few times instead lol

This is definitely the motivation I needed to get mine repainted :) Will be looking into this soon
whatever you think neil A1 effort by yourself
looks fantastic neil
Thanks
So much work goes into a painting project. You must get a lot of satisfaction from your work.
at the end you do but it is hard work.
That's great work... well done!
Thanks.
I quite enjoy masking up. Never had to do a whole car though.
Oh the dread at the start of all that masking 😷

awesome
Thanks for showing all the details
My pleasure 😊
Thanks for the upload, great progress and its very cool to see all the steps!
thanks
Really enjoyable once again Neil! I have attempted painting however; I failed miserably!

It's called by the 2 names. Got a can of lacquer here also clear coat.👍😉
After dry 1500 and 2000 sending ,try it 3000 trizact wet. I do it all the time. it will be nicer.

Niel you sell yourself short fella considering paint isn't your main skill set you do a bang up job
Many thanks. 👍🤩

3m for the first stage then g3 finishing
Great tip on the ratio of thinner to paint. I wondered how you might avoid a reaction in an open environment.
yep works much better, costs more but worth it.
Really looking forward to doing this job myself, next Spring.
good stuff
great job
Thanks
Please invest in a airbed mask using 2 pack isn't good if you use 3000 trizact pads on a DA with water it will make the polishing easier
Cheers. I find I can see better sanding it dry.
I'll give it a go

nope.

Was your mop head too soft to compound ???? Paint was ace. Wish I could.
cheers
Great video Neil what type of spray Gun do you use and compressor size, thinking of buying a set up for my own hobby use
devilplis
150 ltr comp
Cheers Neil
Would you not put the car on the lift while you are doing all the sanding to save your back ?
no because the ramp arms get in the way.
Only thing I would comment is you should wear a good respirator. Otherwise it looks great!
To be honest the face mask I used was much better than my old respirator. Thanks for watching

mate i prepped door shuts on 747s ... 10 doors on a jumbo ... it took 12 hrs to tent and prep 1 door shut
Sounds fun. Lol
Sh.t car good painter
Lol ta.
I admire your job, recomend to you to make fully disassemble the doors, its no big deal.. Respect to your work mate!👏🥂👑
Door handle bolts where seized on the one door so left the glass in
It that all cellulose?
2pac
@@ItaliaAutos thanks. Is that safe to spray without a respirator?
@stuwhite2337 not with just a dust mask...but I think that's what you're getting at...
@@richardshaw1968 I thought you needed an air fed mask for 2 pack, but yes, I was concerned about Neil's health with just a dust mask
Don't you need a mask with air extraction when using that laquer?
I've got extracton separate, and my mask did a good job.
@@ItaliaAutos ok well you know best but that mask did look a little basic!
Oh it was but it's very thick. It was better than my ventilated mask.
