Jungle released Back on 74 in the UK a year or two ago, actually making the UK charts. Note his line “Massive like Jungle.”
Also note: That’s his buddy Kai on base. Now shave his head, gag him, tie him to a chair, and call him Kujo. 😉

Ren did a retake of the song "Back in 74" but after the first verse and when the chorus was finished he then started to sing in a lower register and instantly from the very start of that he already implemented the guitar riff of the song "Message in a Bottle" into that song = basically from that moment on singing "Back in 74" while playing on guitar "Message in a Bottle"..and at the very end he sung the first verse of Message in a bottle as closure.

I did read that apparently, Ren heard the original song by Jungle, and wrote and arranged this in 10 days. A local bar offered the lounge to record this for 2hrs , and is a one take .
He is so damn impressive haha
Anything retake is usually a cover :) Ren can harmonise like a master. He does two other live singing ones that will blow your mind - "Chalk Outlines" and "How to be Me" with Chinchilla. He's also done a recent one with Chris Webby called Baggage, also very great harmonies.

The backing songer on the right is Scarlet Fae. She is phenominal. I saw her live when she supported Romain Axisa ( band member of the big push, Ren's band) she has a beautiful voice. Her song 'till the wheels, is amazing.

Retakes are basically Ren putting his own spin on songs he loves - from rapping over EDM beats to making mashups. This was another brilliant ReNtake 😅 Just Ren doing Ren things. Crazy runs and harmonies, filthy bars to remind us that he is also still a cheeky boi, and that voice that’s perfect for Sting/The Police songs. Ren has music in his soul and pours so much soul into everything he does. We’re just lucky to witness it 🐰🕳️
Also since you laughed at the guillotine bar… I kinda need to see your reaction to Uninvited 😂 Really though I need to see you react to his entire catalog - including what he did while in Trick the Fox and The Big Push. The rabbit hole is deep and wide, but it’s full of greatness ❤

Ren is so diverse, so after each Ren reaction, you should let your subs know what genre are you in the mood for next, ie. rap, rock, ballad, duet, busking, hip-hop and they’ll give you songs to check out. And if they’re 3 or 4 different ones provided, then put it to a vote. Anyway, I feel like I’m watching one of my kids friends, my son is 36 (37 in Jan) and my daughter is 32 (33 also in Jan). If you ever want suggestions of great songs from the late 60’s thru the early 90’s, let me know. So many amazing songs by many artists you probably have never heard of before

A Ren Retake is him taking some song/music/beat and transforming it in some way. Sometimes it's him Rapping over some EDM beat, sometimes it's over a music like the Verve - Bittersweet Symphony, this one was more cover like, but mashing two songs and his own lyrics in the middle.
I don't know if it's still the case, but he didn't use to monetize his retakes because he didn't secure permission to cover them. He did it only for the fun and love of the music itself. But maybe now that he's better off financially he can, IDK.
But not finding them on streaming platforms like Spotify and bandcamp is usually a good indication it's a UA-cam not monetized exclusive.

@Abigirl there is 2 songs, first song by a group called the Jungle and is called "Back on 74." Second song after Ren raps is "Message In a Bottle" by the Police (Sting). Ren is putting these 2 songs together and bridges them with his rap. No one else does this! It's amazing.

Abi just watched your reaction in its entirety so sit aside for a moment I will deal with you next lol (its all good). This is the first time I have seen REN go really retro and he worked it like a charm and confirmed all my suspicions about him. He is beyond any reasonable doubt a musical shape shifter and the most exciting thing about him you will never know what flavor he will drop on you next. His persona will be talked about not in years but generations. Back to you Abi I posted on you Kujo beatdown describing what made you stand above even the most popular reactionary folks and why. After some of the heavy songs and subject matters in Ren's work that you have experienced Abi "Back on 74" was a great change of direction. 'My man can sing' had me laughing.
I first saw Ren with some of his busking video's or just bumming around playing guitar and that is what got me hooked on him. Glad you are discovering this side to him as well. :-) 'Back on 74' is a song by Jungle..... I loved the mash up with it and 'Message in a Bottle' by The Police and then Ren going into his rapping.... Brilliance all round.

Just before he released this he made Fred Again Mashup, his take on some tracks from EDM artist Fred Again.. i had never heard of Fred Again, i dont particularly enjoy EDM. BUT, Ren's take on it is devastatingly wonderful. You wont regret reacting to it.

With the Sick Boi album and impending new release, it would be easy just to concentrate on his new stuff but I do urge you to dive into his earlier stuff too as it is an important part of his journey and there are some real bangers too.
There are plenty of fun Ren solo songs (Uninvited for example will have you blushing lol) but anything from his band The Big Push will always put a smile on your face.

Now you need to listen to another Sting's cover of "Englishman in New York", with Ren's band "The Big Push"

For future reference - when he titles something with "Retake" it's basically a cover, with his own twist on it. In this case he covered portions of Back on 74 by Jungle and Message in a Bottle by The Police, but also included some rap bars, and remixed the audio a bit - for example, he mixes in the Message in a Bottle guitar riff into Back on 74.
Other retakes include providing his own bars on top of other tracks, such as with Losing It, Right Here, Right Now and Halftime, or even turns a normal song into a rap track, like he did with Bittersweet Symphony.
As far as Live goes, a decent percentage is done live from the start- but if it is recorded in a studio, he'll frequently release a live version, as he did with Animal Flow, Murderer, and Bittersweet Symphony- and even a portion of Money Game pt. 2

You are too cute. It is hard to deny that Ren has breathed a breath of fresh raw natural talent and is rewriting everything we thought we knew about music, performances and art! He's a lyrical genius and his productions are just so on point. Him & I share a lot of similarities within the industry as we are multi instrumentalists. I play drums (my specialty) guitar, bass, piano. I write music from numerous genres as well, I just don't have the vocal skills to match. I have done some remixes of my own on here as well if you are ever bored :) I do a lot of covers on here as I cannot release them on streaming platforms so it's covers and remakes. Hi Abs, I can tell I am really liking your reactions because I have held off watching Back on 74 until you reacted to it (I knew you would have to do it soon), so I could watch it for the first time along with you. It's fun to do that sometimes because I watch so much music that I know most songs before my favourite reactors get to them, so I miss out on truly feeling their initial reactions to a song. It's an amazing feeling when you experience a brand-new track for the first time. It's one of my favourite things about UA-cam.
Speaking of new music, before I came to UA-cam tonight, I purchased and listened to Dave Gilmour's (formerly Pink Floyd) new album Luck & Strange (it dropped three days ago, 6 September). Gilmour is 78 years old, and I think there is a strong argument that this might be his best solo album, it's brilliant.
Anyway, not here to talk about Gilmour, here to celebrate Ren. Abs, if you like Ren's singing voice then you should check out Ren's busking videos. There are some real performances in those (I won't recommend any; I will let you dig your own way through those). When people say Ren can do anything, it's true. I'm not a rabid Ren fan, however I do really respect his work, but I'm no expert. As such, I will leave it to those far more qualified to lead you through Ren's very deep rabbit hole.
