I am ex military, ex UK Police firearms officer (covered Paddington and Sussex Gardens) and I still shed a tear listening to this song.
I am glad Violets tale came to give it all context as it’s easy to paint all perpetrators of violence as evil born, but many are just created by a broken system. Violets, Jenny and Screech were all failed by a broken system, that we see everyday. If there isn’t someone to break the cycle then it repeats as we see. Screech is a product of masculine culture, when finds himself in a tough spot he results to violence rather than showing vulnerability. It’s too easy to say he is a reflection of Stevie and Jenny is a reflection of Violet but more the way we shape young men and women to live in a broken society.

I am a retired 51-year-old Australian army major and when REN takes on the role of a scary character who is disturbed like screech or for that matter takes on any traumatic role even I get chills. You said near the beginning of the video that you felt that he was looking at you trust me all of his fans feel that way Ren has a way of making it feel that he is singing directly to you and you alone. I don’t know how he does it so well it’s a gift.

A really good reaction, probably one of the best reactions to the Triologiy I've seen so far. It completely knocked me off my feet the first time. The face of domestic violence in particular was probably deliberately drawn to go beyond the pain threshold, at least my pain threshold. That's exactly what I love about Ren. He's real, no matter what he's doing, and there's something for everyone in his art. It's the way he tells stories that gets me every time, not to mention his musical talent. Looking forward to more of your reactions to him.

Welcome to the world of Ren. Happy to see you join the RENegades. Don't worry about pausing a lot, anyone watching his videos for the first time pause and talk about what they are hearing quite frequently. He isn't your typical artist. His songs are packed with layered meanings and need talked about to fully understand. He instinctually knows how to pull emotions out of people with his music. Ren is a delight to listen to. He doesn't really have a genre as he covers the musical spectrum. It's been a long time since I've found an artist that I enjoy as much as Ren. I'm a 50 year old guy that pretty much had lost interest in most music coming out as so many are just cookie cutter copies of each other. Ren is unique. Like I had stopped listening to rap back in my early 20s. I can listen to Ren rap and enjoy it. To date, my favorite song he does is a collaboration with an artist called Chinchilla named "Chalk Outlines". He put a situation I went through into the perfect lyrics in a way I couldn't have explained to someone. It hit me so hard and close to home that I ugly cried. "Animal Flow" is a fun song. I'd also suggest "Losin It", "What You Want" and "The Hunger'". Enjoy the ride. You've got a new subscriber.

I've seen so many reactions to this video I have lost count. This is the BEST reaction I have witnessed. I could feel your feelings...WOW! Your attention to detail and picking up on the emotions of each character, sometimes even before they were mentioned was really cool and reflects your empathy. Ren is a master at setting the tone with his guitar and haunting voice in this one. He sets your mood and you have no choice but to feel it because it attacks you through your ears......directly to your heart. Kudos. Keep them coming pleeeeease!

I think the best statement you made was when you asked, "What is this ... a trilogy of death?" I guffawed.
One of many things you will come to love about Ren is that everything he does has a purpose. Using the acoustics of the space he's in as another instrument is one of them. In most of the live one take videos, the environment becomes part of the song. It's pretty amazing!

Yes this is Ren in "Bardcore" mode. Amazing storytelling, this isn't just music, it's theater, an all around performance start to finish.
Samuel is Ren's friend, videographer, and all-around talented man in his own right.
This trilogy is heartbreaking, gut-wrenching, but worth every minute. Ren brings light to a ton of societal issues that everyone else is afraid to speak up about.
Keep diving, the Ren Rabbit Hole is very deep.
You'll find his fanbase are the best kind of humans.
I'm definitely noticing this... the acceptance has been so touching it makes me feel so happy!
Great reaction! Imagine: Screech was 14 years old and killed his twin sister, which was, in the age of 14, a hooker....The inspiration for the tales was a newspaper article about a young guy killing an underaged prostitute and got shot afterwards. The officerr who shot the guy was quoted: "It's such a shame"... All the rest of the tales is out of Ren's imagination, but it shows the full circle where Screech had the same traits as his father, Jenny the same as her mother. Jennifer and James are the names given to kids when they're orphans - like Jane Doe in the US for unknown persons
I somehow missed the whole hooker part. I thought she was in heels cause she went dancing or something LOL whoops

@@Abigirl_Reacts To be clear, it is never stated outright in the songs. You have to think back to Jenny's tale after hearing the end of Violet's tale to realise that she was 14, same as Screech. And then realise that a 14 yo girl in high heels and makeup (slice the rosy of her cheeks) that has walked the same streets about a thousand times before, wanting to get out of there, probably wasn't just out clubbing.
I think the announcement teaser for Jenny's tale made a more direct mention of her working the streets, and the backstory for why Ren wrote the song in the first place makes it more obvious. But unless you heard that or *really* thought back to the first part of the video it's not obvious at all, so don't worry about having missed it.
But yes, the news article was apparently just a page 17 small notice style thing. And the dead underage prostitute was just a quick mention to explain why the police shot the boy. Combine that with the police making the rather jaded "it's such a shame" comment about the tragedy of two dead kids. That's what I heard is the reason Ren wrote Jenny's tale to begin with, he wanted to put the focus on the poor girl who was barely mentioned, and to bring more attention to that things like this happen.
The other stories came after that, with Violet's tale making it a comment about generational abuse. And things like that really happens as well.
Grandmother drank and stayed silent, Grandfather was abusive.
Violet was a silent girl, Stevie was abusive.
Jennie froze, Screech was abusive.
The way he switches from character to narrator is seamless. Absolutely one of the best reactions I've ever seen. The "shutthe$&!?#%up " was PRICELESS!!😂😂

Now then he adds doing it as one-take live videos, playing guitar, acting characters and singing whilst moving through environment, using it as part of the soundscape. It's just ridiculously talented. It's allmost offensive to be that good 🙂
Brilliant reaction to this and yes you caught it all ! The more you think about it, the deeper the layers (even those left unsaid).
Ren is a one off musical genius - we're blessed to be living at the same time to witness this all happening "live". I have no doubts he will be remembered for decades to come. He does things others can't do and wouldn't dare to do musically.
You're in for the time of your life as you delve further into the rabbit hole - and there are plenty of branches to follow down too (Ren only appears to collab with other super talented people).
A handy tip though is to mix the light songs in with the dark - there are so many more sides to Ren you have yet to discover.
Oh and just a heads up so you can prepare yourself - there are two brand new Tales coming our way in the next couple of months I believe.

I cried the first time I heard it, and many times re-listening. I also cried watching your reaction. This is the best reaction I've seen to this trilogy. I'm happy you took time to pause and go back to make sure you didn't miss anything! And watching you piece everything together was epic!
So many people miss a lot and don't piece things together at the end. I think it may because they also get complaints about pausing.
My thoughts on that are....if people want to hear the whole song uninterrupted, they can go watch the original video on their own! The point of watching reactors is to see how other people's brains process things in contrast to how you process things. Pausing and commenting should be a part of reacting!
Any #Renegade will encourage you to pause and take it all in. We're some of the nicest people you could meet...like a family. In conclusion, Ren is worth every pause 😊

Ren was inspired to write the song after reading a newspaper article about a teenage streetwalker who was killed. Ren felt that the article's line "it's such a shame" was an inadequate response to the situation.

I found Ren 2 years ago, shortly after he released "Hi Ren" though - if all things- a politicl/cultural reaction channel i used to watch. Since that time, i have fallen in love with Ren. He is probable one of my favorite 3 artists of all time.
Unfortunate, we only get to experience each "first" once in our lives, and i think that is why so many of us have taken up watching Ren reaction videos. We get to experience your first with you and livd vicariously through you.

Secondly wonderful reaction to an extremely powerful (in my opinion) piece of musical and performance art by Ren and Sam. Being able to share in your first experience of this song was a an experience in itself for me. Only a few people I have seen on UA-cam have had such a visceral response to The Trilogy able to describe seeing the scenes through the eyes of the characters almost quite literally.
Third, there is never any need at all to apologise for having a reaction like you did (to this piece of work by Ren or anyone). I think you would find it a challenge to discover anyone who was not touched in someway by this song, that is the whole point. I definitely was when I first saw and heard it. I didn't even really mean to do so but somehow Ren's performance just sort of made me do it. And people liked that! It was overwhelming for me though haha I never experienced anything like this with any other artist!

One thing you missed was the moment Ren held his eyelids up when he went into Violets room - you were looking away almost in terror. It would be worth revisiting that as it is one of the most iconic moments of great portrayal of being in character - like the great Bard Ren is. And do not apologise it is your reaction. This was / you were awesome Abi - I love this kind of honest, raw reaction. You sussed most of it out upon first listen, which is a lot better than most 🙂 If you do the maths, Violet was in the hospital, after her beating by Stevie, in TWO ZERO ZERO FIVE ( 2005 ) Add 14 years, the ages of Jenny and Screech were 14 in 2019 ( when this trilogy was written ) Ren had, apparently watched a news report where a youngster had murdered a woman and the journalist had said, at the end of the report " It's such a shame " It was this story which inspired the Tales. Ren's imagination ran riot. He wrote the two tales, then wrote Violets tale to tie it all in to, what I consider to be, THE greatest musical trilogy of all time. Ren is a remarkably creative force ( and total empath ). I think you can’t listen to these stories without being in the shoes of the characters. The way he winds the three tales together and brings them full circle makes me cry every time I listen to it. A lot of Ren’s music gets me every single time.

@@Abigirl_Reacts unfortunately, I fear that…from what I’ve been told by pretty much every important woman in my life, and so many others I don’t even know, I feel like most women probably feel that they have to on some level. There’s so many real themes in these songs…I can’t imagine what it would be like to be Jenny and find herself across from any man turning a dark corner in the night. I’ve learned I need to check in with people when I know they’re going out to make sure they also made it home safely out of genuine concern. I sincerely hope it changes in my lifetime. In “Fingers” Live by Chinchilla she says “put your keys in your knuckles like I have to” and it goes straight through me just knowing what could happen to any of my friends or my sister or literally any woman in the wrong place at the wrong time. Jenny wasn’t someone who deserved to be a victim. It’s easier to dismiss Screech until you learn of his parentage. And poor Violet. Her story absolutely guts me.
I feel like maybe I went on a bit too long and I hope I don’t come across as mansplaining what life as a woman is like. This song makes me think and feel a lot of things at the same time. I like your reviews. Gonna sub and watch more. Be well!

I watch alot of reactions to both these artists and i got to say you having quickly become one of my Favs .The energy and joy you bring is fantastic seeing your raw emotion is like watching it all over again for the first time. With Ren you are in for a journey and you never know what your going to get next just like you do with Ronnie and fallling in reverse . To be very fair, I'm not convinced that the ballad of Jenny and Screech technically qualifies as his magnum opus, but it's indisputably one of his best works.
2nd reaction video from you today that i got to watch, losing it was the first. I must say i like how you get involved so much of Ren music. This one had me sub because I literally followed your emotions with the song. Ive been watching and listening to this song for little over a year and i think youre the first reactor that got me to follow emotions too. And the lenghty videos i love it, when it comes to the tales its necessary really. And we all know its hard to breakdown or react to ren in one setting thats obvious through all his songs. I absolutely welcome the longer videos. Great reaction ill give this one a 10/10 as well. Sounds like you've become a RENegade with the rest of us who discovered Ren. Samuel Perry Flavey is the camera man and him and Ren filmed these at 1am in Brighton. The neighbours shouting to shut up 😄🤣 then they saw it was Ren and kept quite. Ren will make you laugh and cry and give you chills. Im 56 and been through it all with his songs. Recently saw him live here and two hours of unbelievable talent.
I can't believe it, I'm so jealous! I hope to see him myself one day!

Of ALL the reactions I have watched, yours is absolutely the most unique and heartfelt I have seen. For the first couple of minutes, I was a little "put off" by your style. But... you grew on me very quickly. Once I "got you," I was riveted. I already knew Ren's performance, so I was really watching YOUR reaction. You were absolutely mesmerized and immersed in his performance. And you understood at a deep and profound level on your first listen (more than can be said for many of US). As to complaints about your pauses... don't listen. Or listen, but don't change. Your unique style sets you apart. You being YOU will work to your favor in the long run. Amazing trilogy. Epically good reaction, we’ve all been through the rollercoaster ride of emotions that the trilogy puts you through. This shows all Ren is no ordinary musician, he’s a musical genius. I’ve been aware of Ren for a long time as he was in school with my daughter. There are so many more examples of his brilliance, deep dive into the Ren rabbit hole, you won’t be disappointed 😊

I found a video where Ren did the backstory of Screech. It was a rough compilation of videos of “Screech”
Treating his gf badly, picking on his friends- generally being a bully. Then it shows him trying to convince his friends to help commit a robbery so he can leave town bc his foster dad is abusive. The failed robbery attempt happens right before his run in w Jenny. Just the fact that a video like this exists (that Ren made it for himself or for us to get into some of the motivations of screech is so brilliant). These tales are so well done and we all get emotional bc we’re being confronted w these topics head on and Ren does it in such a hauntingly beautiful way. Great reaction!! It’s awesome to see a woman react to these videos especially. Well done girl!! ❤

At the start of Violet's tale with Ren sitting on the hospital bed, he looked around hovering between the hazy partition between the conscious and the unconscious worlds. Point between life and death. Aptly amplified by the instrumentation. Reason why I am a Renegade.

Girl! Gotta say one of the best reactions I’ve seen. The fact that your face tells 1000 words with how you react facially to every verse, and at the end telling us line for line what’s going on in your thought process, realising that Jenny and screech were siblings grown up without knowing eachother. Ren's mastery of slipping between roles of characters in the song and back to narrator, and forcing viewers into roles as well, brings an intensity to his bardic performances. You find yourself the helpless viewer of tragedy, then put in Jenny's shoes, then Screech, a cop, you get a taste of everyone's point of view. It jarringly draws empathy for each person. The planning of the route for Ren to perform Violet's tale shows just how much attention to detail and expertise is in the video making process. The haunting look up the stairwell as his voice soars is just heartbreaking.
Gosh I didn't even realize he's ALSO playing the role of the narrator. So many characters!

Ren is a modern day bard painting such vivid imagery with his storytelling that it pulls you in and forces you to keep watching - even when it gets physically uncomfortable (especially during Violet’s Tale). And Ren uses this ability to shed light on far too real issues in the world. Ren is special.
Anyway that was an absolutely brilliant reaction! The simultaneous outrage over how good Ren is and immersion in the story was great 😅Anyone with any empathy is affected by this tragedy so no need to apologise or think you’re weird for being emotional. Also never apologise for pausing or the video ending up long. The Renegades are here exactly to see your reaction to it all and hear your thoughts. Speaking of… I think we can officially call you a Renegade too with that amount of respect for his art while also fangirling a little (you are not alone in that either) 😂 And while I think the sound effect for rewinding time is commonly used across different media (e.g. old cartoons), yes, Ren is a NERD! 😂 You’ll find references to LotR, anime, games, and so much pop culture in his work.

Ngl, this was the best reaction to this trilogy. I have watched countless other reactions but yours really stand out. It actually felt real, not just exaggerated emotions. Also, the pausing and reacting is completely fine. It's a reaction video, what's important is you don't miss anything when you're reacting.
