It's a retake of two or more songs. This is a retake of the song Back on 74 by Jungle, with Ren's own rap scheme in the middle and then a retake of The Police's song Message in a Bottle :)
Watching people's faces light up in surprise with this one is a beautiful moment of shared joy. Ren definitely activates all those dopamine receptors! 😊
I also enjoy seeing what creativity, talent & sheer genius that is Ren does to people the... personally, I feel reaction videos will inspire more talent to strive to shine in society seeking reactions they have seen via this new genre of connectivity...... The most powerful was the Strawhat twins reaction to Jenny, Screech & violets tale.
In answer to your question, Genius music says about Back on 74 from Jungle: "The feeling of ‘Back on 74’ is a nostalgic one, it’s that feeling of having this place of your life where you grew up, where you had these really fond memories. 74 is a fictitious thing, but for us it’s like 74th Avenue or 74th Street or the year 1974, where, in your imagination or as a kid, you were playing out on the street. You’ve gone back to this place and it’s giving you this really nostalgic feeling but everything’s not quite the same. You’ve come out of something on ‘I’ve Been in Love’ and through ‘Back on 74’, you have this desire to go home, back to a place that felt safe."
Imo 1974 was the high point of Western civ, the outpouring of art and culture, the decade in which regular people had a voice, when wage differentials between rich and poor were narrowest, with optimism and hope for a brighter future. In my long life I’ve seen a slow decline since then.. Bless Ren for bringing the joy and optimism back with the inevitable tinge of nostalgia.
This one really sold me. Ren is something else. This is almost like Steely Dan. I don't think I've ever witnessed anything like this dude. He's so good that he inspires me to be a better version of myself.
Like steely Dan!!! Bold statement my friend, seen as they were probably the best musicians on the planet,Ren certainly is special though, amazing talent
Jungle's Josh Lloyd told Apple Music. "74 is a fictitious thing, but for us it's like 74th Avenue or 74th Street or something, where, in your imagination or as a kid, you were playing out on the street. You've gone back to this place and it's giving you this really nostalgic feeling but everything's not quite the same."
Ren is an enigma…he’s in a class by himself. He do any type of music and excel at it. And he’s a very nice and humble man. Protect this man…he’s a special one. 👍🏻
Psychologist here.... my dive into Ren started Hi Ren and have a deep appreciation for his brilliance and insight. Listened to this video over and over again doing house work yesterday. I love it and grateful that Ren introduced me to Jungle --their video of Back on 74 is recommended--they were on the Brit Awards this year as well...Thank you. I have subscribed. to your channel.
You clearly enjoyed the vibe of this song as much as I did. A great fusion of 2 songs. The first, Jungle's Back on '74, reading the background of it, they said it was a nostalgic look back to simpler times, time of their youth. After Ren's fun rapping bars, he brings in a bit of Police's Message in a Bottle, a band and artist (Sting), that he's drawn on as a key musical influence. The song is so cool, I can't stop listening to it. Shout out to the backing singers and bass player, they brought uber style to the song.
He brings a bit of Message in a Bottle in even before that. For the second verse, Ren uses the chord progression from Message in a Bottle while singing Back on '74. Subtle--and brilliant!
Hey Anna, completely missed that you got back to Ren. Great reaction. Thanks. I'd like to recommend another Ren song to you, that might interrest you: 'Ren ft. Bibi - Crutch' It's heartbreaking, beautiful and deep. A song for which there are far too few reactions. Absolutely underrated in my opinion. Has a great no-budget video as well. The song comes from his darkest days, when he really thought he would'n live much longer. Bibi was his girlfriend at that time and started a GoFundMe to raise donations for his treatment/diagnosis. 'Crutch' is about his fear of being left alone with and because of all his problems. And it's for everyone who supports their partners, friends or whatever in times of crisis.
1974 basically all of the 1970's of just great music! For me anyway. Also don't forget to listen to his song before this one. Fred Again 'mash up' several different songs of Fred that Ren does, it was very emotional for me especially his part 'leave me along' then singing about being lost. Had me tear up. Brought me back to his song "How to be Me" gut wrenching.
74 was such an amazing musical era, I was buying everything on Motown and the Philly label, The original artists behind Back on 74 won a major award last night on the biggest British music show , The Brit Awards, they performed it live, great, but when you hear Ren's version it makes you appreciate what an absolute master he is of " Retakes " So pleased you did this one. Money Game 3 is a must.
Always love ur Ren reactions. Please , u have to react to TROUBLES by REN. He talks year by year about dealing with his illness. I hope to see the reaction,as a doctor I always enjoy your imput.
This was another brilliant ReNtake. Just Ren doing Ren things. Crazy runs and harmonies, filthy bars to remind us that he is also still a cheeky boi, and that voice that’s perfect for Sting/The Police songs. Ren has music in his soul and pours so much soul into everything he does. We’re just lucky to witness it 🐰🕳️
You're so spot on about Ren's passion and love for music. Just watch his face when he's singing and looking at the back up singers. His smile there is so genuine. Him hearing how good the back up singers sound he just can't help but smile at them because he's genuinely loving their performance AND it's a smile of happiness that after everything he's gone through medically and still going through he's still able to do to what he loves and that's make amazing music with amazing artists. You're reaction when Ren started playing the riff for "Message in a Bottle" was awesome. BUT when he started singing the song seeing you tear up a little was so real at that moment I felt your emotion to seeing and hearing that it made me get a little pissy eyed myself for a second. That's what I absolutely love about music but more than that, it's what I love about Ren. He has that ability to make your heart come alive with his voice and emotions. He truly is a once in a lifetime artist and I'm so looking forward to the new album he's been working in and he's bringing it back to his roots and what he really loves to do and that's sing and play guitar, bass or piano. This retake and his Fred Again Mashup a few weeks ago are both guitar playing and singing masterpieces!
Loved this reaction and how this retake lit up your morning. It is astounding and a revelation that a person who has gone through and is still going through so much, just breathes his passion for music. Ren has released a BTS video of the making of Back on 74 on his Patreon channel. There is a shot of him sitting on a couch doing his work - with a drip in his arm, as he is still receiving daily treatment to restore his damaged immune system. Thank you and have a great day.
Dunno if there's a significance to 74 in particular, to me this song gives me a feeling of memories from the past and dwelling in nostalgia, perhaps when one's world was simpler and more carefree, while also telling oneself to move on (hence the repeated "let it go"). Hoping to see more ren reactions on this channel, even if not all of them touch upon your specialty. Cheers from Austria :)
Yes Motown that was my initial thought too. Well about 74 that's the title of the motown feel song by jungle but their version is more a dance/pop version then a lounge/easy listening one. And the Sting song is from 1979 btw.
That surprised Look on your face is priceless! Thats why we RENegades watch all the reactions to his work! I told ya in your first Ren video to buckle up... and as soon as ya thought ya knew what hes about... his next video would prove to ya you dont! Am i right? Lol
74 would have been the end of the hippie generation and the rise of punk and a different, angrier counter culture. The Police would have been just starting out more or less. I saw them for free in a gym at the University of Buffalo in 77 or 78. Of course Message in a Bottle is a huge Police hit and Sting is one of Ren's heroes. The song Back in 74 came out in 2023 by a group called Jungle and the official video is a one shot dance vid as the song is more dance-y than the groovy version by Ren although let me also say it is also very groovy. I think him choosing this is another example of him picking a contemporary group, with an esoteric sound. Check out the video for Jungle's Back on 74. They also choreograph their own dances. It really is mind blowing.
I wish you could study my brain when I’m listening to Ren! He has four songs called Love Music parts one through four ,part two is my favorite but you should listen to all of them.
Fifty years is more than half a lifetime..."where did it go?"... the freedom and liberty. The SOS is a call for help in these days of confusion. Clever on all levels and the music transports us to better times.
This was a mashup, Back on 74 was a song by Jungle about 1974, Ren's rap referenced events in '74, and that was the year the Police released Message In a Bottle.
On my 2nd Cup of Tea 🍵. This Morning Yorkshire Tea. Yes I'm British. Hiya from the UK 🇬🇧. No Genre with Ren and that's what I Love about him and his Musical ability.

Keeping up with Ren's health, he is still having to take treatments and is still in pain. I hope someone will be able to help the damage it has done to his brain. Anna, I was 24 in 1974 50 years ago the world had calmed down from the anger of the 60's. We had the Love Train, but it ran off the tracks.. LOL
The song back on 74 by jungle is a longing for simpler times. I don't know if anyone's already said this, haven't read all the comments haha The original is a fantastic song but this retake along with rap and the police is pure eargasm

Then I have a question if you’re neurologist, what would you do if a neurologist performing a fusion in the neck of two vertebrae and replacing discs with whatever spacers they use, and they wind up using too big of spacers and made me 3/4 of an inch taller than I’m supposed to be And has all my muscles and tendons messed up in my neck and shoulders. Is there anyway to fix that??????🧐

@louquine Yeah...I knew they are from the U.K. I just didn't want to assume they have always lived there. I do know the original has lyrics "back on 74th st." ✌🏻❤️
@@sammyd8860 Yes, and Ren certainly expands the meaning in his Ren-dition by actually singing at one point, *"Nineteen seventy-four",* which is not in the original Jungle lyrics.
Perhaps the tid-bit is listening/enjoying great art is healing and a healthy endeavor.

She knew messsge in a bottle. She sang it 😊
Hmm someone was looking like she was falling in love during the rap. Oh I noticed the facial expressions I'm a body language expert. ❤😂
And then the final "Message in a bottle"

Welcome back, we missed you around here Anna 💞, always a good day when it's Ren, he also posted another new vid called Fred Again Mashup =)

74 is just a reference to good times in the past. Back on 74 was a song done by Jungle back in the day.
If by "back in the day," you meant, "last year", then this is correct.
