There are many, particularly those from the US, would love to see Hong Kong stumble. They will foment negativity towards HK at every opportunity. This comes about because of their narrow-mindedness, their fear of China’s continued advancements and fear of losing their preeminent status in the world. George Yeo is easily the best analyst of China outside of China. I’ve followed him since before he was foreign minister of Singapore, when I was living there. That country is so blessed to have ministers who care about their country and by extension the lands around it. And to keep them safe.
Hong Kong people are resilient. They will overcome this. Those who leave, many of them will regret it, and many will come back. And we should welcome them.
