So creative! The pattern, the color choices, and those handles all came together SO well. Most people would think that this piece was way too far gone to even attempt fixing it and you nailed it! Thank you for saving this piece
Thank you Cory that means a lot. You are the queen of fixing pieces that no one else would touch, so I really appreciate the kind words and encouragement thanks.
Its absolutely beautiful, bravo. I've been doing decoupage for years and I put all sorts of paper on my furniture. I find the easiest way is to put the decoupage glue on the drawers, let it dry for 20 minutes then with an iron that does not have any water in it and is on medium heat, take a piece of parchment paper (which I keep for other projects), put over the paper and iron all over. If you are using very thin paper or even napkins....it also ensures there are no creases or bubbles.
Thanks Robyn. I’m so glad you think that. This piece invoked strong feelings in people…either they really liked it or really didn’t 😆 Even the lady who bought it her husband fell in the “REALLY didn’t like it” camp and was vocal about it when I delivered it 😬 #awkward
Sarah when you took of the hardware and were holding one of the handles it reminded me of a magician's wand. Well you took the magic wand and transformed this ugly duckling into a fun and beautiful piece! I can not believe that you did a “simple fix” on the drawer when you completely took it apart and just flipped the bottom and put it all back together. If I would ever attempt that it would simply be a mess 😂😂😂 Love it ❤️
YES!!!! me too - there was no getting away from it. Even after I painted it. I wondered if anyone would notice 😆 and then I continued reading your comment and you so brilliantly encouraged me with the wand reference! You are brilliant! Glad you loved it Katie
Well thank you - some people have definitely taken to it and others not so much...not for everyone I guess but I'm glad you thought it was gorgeous, appreciate that!

Could not imagine how you would transform this piece, the handles looked so out of place! I'm gobsmacked!! Such a great job and now the handles are the stars supported by your use of the papered drawers! 5$!! Love this one!
Never saw anything like this style but even less the condition and how you did un duckling de uglify! Pro swanery! Maybe not to everybody's taste but it certainly has unique beauty. Thank you for sticking (LOL) to it .
Velma! I am always so happy when I see your name in the comments! Thank you - the more I got into the piece the more I knew no other hardware would have worked.
From Ugly Duckling to Retro Glam. Very good job! Like some others here, Retro is not my style, but you nailed it and it looks fantastic. There are plenty of the Retro lovers out there who'd love to give this piece a good home.
Wow! When I saw this piece I couldn’t imagine HOW ON EARTH you could restore it. All parts of it are stellar. I’m not a “burlap” color person but that was an excellent choice! Love the top too. I subscribed too!
Hey there and welcome. So glad you subscribed AND so glad you liked it I appreciate the encouragement. The top was my favourite part as well...hard for me to paint over beautiful wood grain!
Oh! I LOVE the retro style.. and yes, I love this dresser! I really appreciate that you keept the style and not painted over it all! I wish I lived in Australia, so I chould buy it!
Hehe well I’m so glad you loved the dresser. It is super unique. I tried to do what I could to fix it. I was thinking next time I might try replacing veneer 😳😂 that would be new for me but I’m keen to give it a go. I am an Aussie but actually I live in the US now…married an American 😆
So nice!I wet down the thick modpodge....or make my own. 1 bottle Elmer's glue,2-3 parts water. Keeps for months.I decoupage tons of things...my fav. Great work of love.😁😘
Bonjour Christine!!! (I love that, Bonjour...so pretty!) hehe you are right they were massive they reminded me of piping!😂 but spray paint sorted them out. Glad you loved it
I’m not into retro so much either, but you did an amazing job and did what the piece needed, not necessarily what you are used to. I’m so impressed with your skills...esp about the drawer bottom repair...I def shy away from major drawer repair, but you have inspired me to get out of my own comfort zone. New subscriber(from Desert DIY) and I’m eager to watch your other videos. God bless from NC.
Veneer is actually quite easy to replace if you ever want to take a chance on a vintage piece again. It's no more difficult than the paper. An art deco piece restored to look original sale for a lot of money. Glad you kept the original handles
Donna! Thanks for this encouragement I actually do want to try it. Waiting for a good piece to try it on! I bet the veneer would have been easier that paper was a bear 😆
Fantastic job glad you saved it. A little tip if you are going to use wallpaper in future please use ready mixed wallpaper adhesive and paste the paper on a table as you would to paper a wall before putting on your piece use a craft knife to cut the edges instead of the sand paper makes for a better finish. No more ugly duckling it's brilliant well done 💞
You did so many good things. Salvaging the piece and having a vision. Getting it solid and secure. Working on the prep and the finishing. I love the handles. Yes, I have the paper on the front. It reminds me of packing paper on drywall or something. That's just me. It does not diminish the many fine things you did.
Wow, transformed ! Definitely a saved piece of furniture! I've ended up over the years with many old pieces of furniture that I'm sure nobody would have wanted, some definitely falling apart, but they have a certain sentimental value. I've stripped, sanded, painted and made them not so bad but I've never thought about doing some of the stuff you did. That's some really handy things to keep in mind! Thank you!
Wow! When I first saw this, I thought, there is no way this will look good. And then when I saw the wall paper, I thought, what is she doing? Now that I see the finished dresser, all I can say is fantastic job! It looks awesome! You have made a subscriber out of me.
Check out Wheat Paste for applying paper. Long window to wok with. It has been around since there has been paper to hang. It will hold paper to ceilings. Trim paper with a sharp blade while the paper is still wet. This allows you to get a good edge seal. You are great at re-engineering.

hehehe yes I agree. Wish all the prices were more reasonable like that, especially for pieces that have been beat up and would take a lot of work to restore

Thank you so much Jean! I have never seen handles like them before. It was a hard sell I had it up until Tuesday! But the lady really liked it and said it was unique (her husband had a different opinion 😬 ah people).
you really put a lot of work into this and I love love love the papered drawer fronts. However, the paper design is not centered. To me, it’s like laying tile. You find the center of the horizontal space you’re working with and layout the design starting in the center, and work out to the left and then the right. That way your paper design would be balanced and even. Right now, you have full diamond shapes on the left side and only partial diamond shapes on the right side. I could not live with that, it would bug me to no end. I really don’t mean to harshly critique it, just my observation. All in all, love what you did.

What a fantastic makeover of an ugly duckling. It's certainly a beautiful swan now. Well done!
Awe thank you I appreciate the encouragement
You really brought that one back! So fun!
Thanks Taryn
What once an ugly duckling, is now fabulous and funkadelic! Great rescue, Sarah! I'm tickled you used the original handles :)
Trish those handles! I wasn't sure but once I got into the piece no other handle would have been good enough.
Thanks for giving this dresser new life. The result is so metro retro it makes me want to dance like Austin Powers. The right buyer will treasure it.
Hahaha I love this! You are correct its going to definitely take the right buyer for this era specific piece.
This is so cool! Different, unique and out of the box. Great makeover, Sarah! ❤️
