    Thank you so much! I had everything configured except for "layer play type template" for hi hat. This unit works amazing with the KT-10, FD-9 and in my case I also added a PDA-120L for the Snare ;) this frees up two pads on the unit for head and rimshot and then you can add a cross stick and additional tom, etc.

    Incredibly helpful, thank you! I've picked up an SPD-SX Pro and I'll be pulling the trigger on EZDrummer the next time it's on sale. Question: Am I able to export one-shots from EZDrummer for standalone use on my SPD? I'd love to build a decent sounding acoustic set on the SPD (via layering and round robin-style sequencing) without always having to connect a laptop.

    • @jamesrichardsutton
      @jamesrichardsutton  2 місяці тому +1

      I'm glad it was helpful. Understandably, Toontrack doesn't provide any way to export their samples. I imagine that you could create one shots yourself in your DAW, but I honestly don't have the energy or need to figure that out.

    Great Video James, Thank you ! have you used this as audio interface to record and play all the backings at the same time? how does it behave in terms of latency? is it stable?

    • @jamesrichardsutton
      @jamesrichardsutton  7 місяців тому

      Thanks! Whenever I'm tracking drums as I describe here, I'm using the SPD-SX PRO as the primary audio interface in my DAW for both input and monitoring (in my case it's PreSonus Studio One Pro 6 on a 2020 Mac Mini M1) and I've yet to have any issues with latency or overall stability.

    Thank you for the video, EZdrummer was exactly what i‘m looking for for my Spd-Sx pro, it sounds and feels really good. I already owned the KT 10, now i will buy the FD 9 too.
    I‘m curious about how the FD 9 feels, and how the control will be, is it good?

    G'day mate, thanks for this video, really helpful. Would I be right in saying that this would work with any of the other drum kits packs for ezy drummer? Specifically I'd like to a pack that they offer blues midi, for 12 bar blues style

    • @jamesrichardsutton
      @jamesrichardsutton  2 місяці тому +1

      Hi Ryan - Yes, once you configure your SPD-SX PRO to work with EZDrummer 3 or Superior Drummer 3, you can use any supported sound libraries available from Toontrack.

      @@jamesrichardsutton great thanks for the reply. This is really new to me. I currently have a roland td17kvx kit, but I'm looking for a portable solution to practice with my dad, and we only have a small space. I confused myself a little by also finding the Yamaha multi 12, though I'm still leaning to2this roland because I already own ezy drummer for my edrums

    Really useful. I kind of worked this out and used the learn option. I actually like Steven Slate, I have a Patrick Carney kit which is great, but it has to be inside a DAW which is annoying.
    I have a question. Would you be able to use a TD27's midi output and add snare, hit and Ride. I have the digital stuff and it would be great to add these to the SPDSX to have a smaller kit. I am imagining an aggregate midi device. But not sure how to go about it. Also that Post Metal expansion is bloody lovely.

    • @jamesrichardsutton
      @jamesrichardsutton  Рік тому +1

      I’ve yet to own any of the V-Drum modules that use the digital pads, so I don’t know much about them and what MIDI options are supported. I will say that I have used my TM-6 PRO to do something similar to what you’ve described. I connected the MIDI out of the TM-6 to the MIDI input of the SPD-SX PRO, made sure the MIDI thru options were enabled, and triggered sounds in EZD over the USB connection from the SX-PRO. You could also connect both your TD module and the SX-PRO to your computer with USB separately and simply enable both as MIDI input devices in EZD.

      @@jamesrichardsutton thanks James lots of good ideas there. I live the portability of the SPD SX pro and expanding it to get the best out if it seems counterintuitive but I’ll persist. It’s a very very deep unit and I’ve only scratched the surface.

    Thanks for the video. I've managed to set my pads to trigger the ezdrummer sounds I want but I want to take it a step further and allocate each pad to a separate direct out. eg. kick to 1, snare to 2, rack tom to 3
    & floor tom to 4. I've made those output changes on the spdsx pro but the sounds aren't being routed there. I can only seem to get phones and master working. Any ideas? Do I need to use a DAW for output routing? I do have Ableton Live and it's a bit complex for me so gave up using EZdrummer as a VST.

    Is there a way in EZ Drummer stand-alone to send the drums out to a master 1+2 and 3+4 I have a Porter and Davis throne and usually send out from the direct to this device. I managed to do it in Logic with Steven slate drums by sending and instance also to 3+4 and so I could do the same with EZ but it would be nice to do it in the Standalone

      Depending on the audio interface you're using and its available outputs, you should be able to enable multiple outputs in the Audio/MIDI Setup in EZD3.

    • @jamesrichardsutton
      @jamesrichardsutton  6 місяців тому +1

      Thanks, Rich. Assuming your TD kit is new enough to support USB, you should be able to connect both to your computer via USB and then select both in EZD3 under Settings>E-Drums/MIDI In>MIDI Devices.

    • @jamesrichardsutton
      @jamesrichardsutton  День тому

      Thanks, Burak. There are definitely hi-hat velocity and expression options in the pad settings on the SPD-SX PRO. If you haven't already, check out this knowledge base document on the Roland site. The FD-8 is listed as supported, so as long as your connections are correct, you should be good to go. support.roland.com/hc/en-us/articles/13853733551899-SPD-SX-PRO-Using-a-pedal-as-Hi-Hat-control-pedal

      @@Beethovan USB MIDI should be fine. Are you using the SPD-SX PRO as the audio interface (Playback Engine Device) in your DAW? I'd try adjusting your H/W Buffer Size under the Playback Engine settings in Pro Tools. Set it as low as you can to bring down the latency. You'll know that you've set it too low if the audio quality is affected with clicks and distortion. Hope that helps!
