Cool review; now I want to read it. Have read Old Man and the Sea, which was a great book.

I've only read The old man & the sea, when I was a teen. I did read The Paris Wife and Love & Ruin by Paula McLain. They're about Hemingway's wives Hadley & Martha. Maybe I'll read some Hemingway in 2021. I don't have to like an author to love their books. Plus he was a huge cat lover so he couldn't be that bad, lol. I love that you went from one mountain to another. Whenever I think of dying I think of Maya Angelou's quote "People will forget what you did, they'll forget what you said, but they'll will never forget the way you made them feel."

Just read it. Great read. Thanks for this. There’s a lot of not being able to tell what’s real until the very end. Loved it. Thanks for the summary. The hyena could smell his leg from afar and he knew it. Crazy!

I'm not the biggest Hemingway fan, but I enjoyed this short story. I guess I like reading about someone's thoughts before their death even when this person is unlikable.

Yeah, gotta separate the Art from the artist.

I noticed you had posted this video earlier in the day, but I couldn't watch it until I was home from work. You provide a great summary of the story: its themes, its depth. I have read a few Hemingway novels - I'm not a huge fan - but I think he wrote something beautiful and profound when he wrote this.

I wonder if you could make another analysis of this book, certainly this book deserves more than one video man.

I might make another video the next time I read the story.

Gotcha, I'll definitely check your video if you do. As majoring in translation, this novel has become a serious example of *how to translate a novel*, for it is really hard to be fully presented.@@MayberryBookclub

The Short Happy Life Of Francis MacComber is probably EH’s best short story.

Such a hit and miss writer, I find. At his best, I love him. Of the novels, A Farewell to Arms stands above all the others, for me. His short stories can be brilliant. My Old Man ranks among my favourite short stories. Cat in the Rain is also fantastic. I may buy myself The Snows of Kilimanjaro after work.
I just watched one of your older videos where you mentioned Will Self. I have a similar thing with his novels, always buy them but have yet to enjoy one. However, his journalism is excellent. If you can get a copy of the collection Feeding Frenzy, I can't recommend it enough.

Just read it and came onto yt to look for an explanation to sort out some confusion so thanks for the helpful video. Hemingway is such a literary lyricist I had trouble being in the same headspace as him while reading at times. I had to read things back again and make connections after the fact so it was almost a challenge but short and powerful nonetheless! Thanks!

Did Hemingway write in his worst character traits into the book???

I've just read it. The carcass of the leopard what he was seeking at that altitude? What Herry was seeking in that partnership? It literally killed his talent to write.

Mr. Mayberry can you help me with this little problem? Can you tell me the theme of this story? If you can then it will be very helpful to me because that's the question which will definitely come in exam for sure? Please....

Kind of a gross story but I went to a pretty terrible looking school in Kenya when I was in first grade; it was in a nice area but our actual school was being renovated so the school we went to was as bad as ones in the rural parts of Kenya, this includes the toilets. There was a stall that had a pile of feces that all throughout the school guys would call Mount Kilimanjaro. Terribly irrelevant to video but it's the best I can do while rushing to catch up on the Magic Mountain read along lol 😅
