I noticed that, too. I think the writers of this series, while sometimes giving good advice, are pessimistic about some things under the guise of "tough realism." Yes, a person can be a strong and decisive leader but also humble and considerate. In fact, the kinder he is, the stronger he is. The narrator never seems to have heard of the phrase "kind but firm." Also, at the end, the highest expectation the narrator can scrounge up for the wiser couples is "a relatively happy life." Relatively. What about all those couples who are and were living examples of a very happy married life in spite of being realistic about each other's faults? Or does reality not count here? I call this pseudo-realism.
