  • Frustrated that you don't get a practice point for most broadheads these days? No worries! Here's a handy tip that's worked well for us. Works on our Rage Trypans, and pretty sure it'd work on most broadheads. Good luck!
    This channel is about my love of the crossbow, hunting, and the outdoors. I hunt exclusively with the crossbow. I love it and I aim to help you love it, too!

    Now, I am not sponsored by anyone. I am a free agent. I experiement with different types of gear, but I'll tell you my honest opinion about everything out there. I am not sponsored by Excalibur or Scorpyd...read on:
    Bunjie (The O.B.) is a 2010 Excalibur Axiom Crossbow. After a decade of killing deer, hogs, squirrels--you name it!--with the "stock" 20" Easton Firebolt arrows, Bunjie experimented with heavy arrows during 2020 but has since decided to hunt with 20" ProFlight arrows from Easton, for a total arrow weight of just under 400 grains when tipped with a 100 grain Rage Crossbow Hypodermic Broadhead. This keeps ol' Bunjie around 300fps. Is Bunjie retired as of 2021?
    Bunjie, Jr., is my daughter Genevieve's crossbow, an Excalibur Micro Suppressor 355. She also shoots ProFlights (16.5" variety) with a 150 grain Rage Trypan Crossbow Broadhead, for a total arrow weight around 415 grains. This crossbow was a much appreciated gift from a Friend of Bunjie, and it changed Death by Bunjie forever by inspiring Genevieve to become a part of it as a second-generation crossbow hunter, and it also convinced me there is a benefit to a newer, faster crossbow (see our 2020 Maryland Doe Hunt).
    Bunjie III (or Bunjie '21, Bunjie 3.0) is a 2021 Scorpyd Deathstalker, the result of trying various models and looking at dozens of them online for characteristics I liked. It is, in fact, another gift from a different Friend of Bunjie, which goes to show how important Friends of Bunjie are to this channel and what an impact they can have. Although I really liked what I saw online, I would not have even tried a Scorpyd given that no shops near me carried them. This was sent to me new, free of charge...with the only stipulation being that if I didn't like it, I would send it back to that FOB. After spending some time with it, I am convinced it is, in fact, the right crossbow for me in 2021, and I look forward to showcasing this crossbow in future videos.
    So, I am not sponsored by these companies. I am sponsored by Friends of Bunjie! (I'm not asking for gifts whatsoever--please don't feel like you should send me stuff! But I do appreciate the support I've received over the years! I'm just trying to express my appreciation for that.)
    Once again, this channel is about my love of the crossbow, hunting, and the outdoors. I hunt exclusively with the crossbow. I love it. Sure, like a lot of kids, I started hunting with a good ol' Model '94 Winchester .30-30 back in the 80's, but drifted away from hunting when I went off to college, law school, and started a family. As my daughter got older, I regained my interest in the outdoors, and I consider myself lucky to hunt on the same property today that I hunted on as a kid. I got the Excalibur Axiom crossbow in 2010 and I haven't looked back. This channel is the result of combining my interest in filming and hunting...
    ...and music, too! My related channel, Yankee Militia, showcases my music. Some of the music is hunting-related, so check that out, too! The soundtrack for this channel is provided by my band, so the two are intertwined. The albums "Live Free or Kill" and "Zombies Gotta Eat, Too!" are available on Amazon.com and elsewhere. A third album is in the works.
    All Hail Bunjie!

    Or you could buy a SEVR and put the practice screw in it. Good info rich. May I suggest Marine Tex, much stronger than JB weld.

      I have both the 1.5 and 1.7 SEVR on the way... Hoping my T-rex draw and the 1.5 will let me use mechanicals and still get a clean pass through with my bow.

    You should check out SEVR broadheads. All steel construction, replaceable blades, and they can be locked for practice.

    I use the Trypans to hunt with. I use an old rage chisel tip practice head for sighting in. Works perfectly fine. Does tear up a target tho. Go to harbor freight & buy anti fatigue floor mats for $5 for 5 of them and place them in front of target to damper down on tearing up nice expensive targets

    wrap the threads in a bit of masking tape first to be extra sure you don't mess them up.

    I use the swhacker 3 inch 150 grain and I just put a piece of electrical tape over it and it doesn't open while it enters the target

    Definitely going to have to try this! Curious if using this type of practice head, does that mean you can shoot it in a regular target designed for field points without chewing it up, or would you still need to use a target designed for broadheads?

    • @Deathbybunjie
      @Deathbybunjie  8 місяців тому +1

      The bag style targets don't work well with broadheads, probably have to still use field points with those

    Just shoot sevr and u don't have these kinda issues lol although deflection was my biggest reason for switching from rage and after 17 🦌 in 2 yrs ill probably never switch to anything else. I did buy bunch of sevr's 125gr 1.5s this season since i switched back to vertical bow this summer figure they'll do better job on penatration than the 2.0 robustos i had been using with my ravin r10 not sure if gonna regret selling it or not but personally for me the crossbow was taking alot the enjoyment I get from archery hunting out of it for me not sure why but wasn't no longer getting excited abt just squeezing a trigger even though the 🦌 didn't go 50 yards i felt like im cheating myself outta the satisfaction/excitement I used to get when I used my selfbow but I still enjoy watching the videos and helping ppl that aren't capable of using other equipment every hunter we can get into the sport these days (regardless the weapon) helps alot in my book so keep up the awesome content.

    For the SwAhacker you don’t have to fo that. Just use electrical tape instead of a band to keep it closed. It works and guess what ???you can remove the tape

    Was wandering how it works pulling them out of the target if the arrow does not go completely through ? I did that with one of my Hypodermic broad heads and ruined it tying to pull it out of the target due to the fact that the blades are not seated flush where the broad head screws into the bolt . Any suggestions .

    • @Deathbybunjie
      @Deathbybunjie  3 роки тому

      I don't shoot them at targets unless they're sealed like in this video. Or if I don't plan on re-using them. It ruins them. They're not meant to go backwards lol. Practice points usually do SOME damage to the target but it's the cost of doing business IMO.

      Anything 10gr or more can gange how the bolt/arrow will fly. Plus unless thats perfictly flush with the way it was before the jb was added it changes the aerodynamics of the head. That too will affect its flight. Jb is some fairly heavy bonding so gotta be carefull with it.

      @@georgekeith7969 with yours that you noticed. But not every one will have that and there may have been a change but depending on what equipment you have to check it you may not have seen what changes (again if any but normally there is) what they were. One that did change for sure if your FOC and that effects the life of the target and can give a false impresson on what your penitration is going to be. You wouldnt think 10gr can make that much of a differnce but as an example on my bow (granted its a veritical compound but the principles still apply) 10 more gr up front adds 3.4% more to my FOC and cause my arrow to drop another 2" at 30 yards woth a 31" arrow with 55lbs. If I go to my max 60lbs on my bow it only drops a 3/4".

    • @georgekeith7969
      @georgekeith7969 3 роки тому

      @@daniel1697855 I’m sure my arrows drop some but maybe because I shooting heavy arrows 567 with 22% foc out of a crossbow it’s not that noticeable. There both hitting a spot on my target about the size of a half dollar at 40 yards without adjusting my speed ring so that good enough for me for hunting especially when I keep my shots to 30 and under.
