Hello from Scotland, Robbie. Just wanted to say thanks for all your content. I enjoy all of your videos & the forehands ones have been extremely helpful. All the best for the rest of 2024 ❤
I love the journey! I know how frustrating it must be going through this journey, especially with the world to see, but i know you have it in you to crush!
I saw a clip from the Power DGA lessons, and in it, Simon Lizotte stated that “I personally believe that every single person has an effortless 400 feet in them”. Hmmm…
Місяць тому+3
Sounds about right to me. I am 44, started 2 years ago with the dg and recently i reached consistent 390ft. And it is more and more effortless as i try to slow down. Still room for improvement.
Yeah, honestly same. I am 43, about 5'6" and not strong in the slightest. Started playing in 21, and I hit 350 reliably on golf lines. I've popped off and hit 385 a few times on distance lines. If I actually did any strength training I feel like I could hit 400 golf lines reliably.
As someone who easily throws over 400 (ehhhh no big deal heh heh heh) I’ve never thought about the elbow location, thanks Rob! I will test it out! I do think the most important thing for distance is focusing on the hit, for me that’s the biggest thing by far
Hey Robbie, I’m on the road to 300 (sidearm) and 200 (backhand). Yes a certified noodle arm. One of the things I love about your content is how genuine you are. Keep it up bro! I’ll keep tuning in -Sidearm Kurt
The phrase "noodle arm" is one of the most inappropriate terms in disc golf, because it is used in a condescending fashion, when this should be the goal. Saying you or someone else has a noodle arm as an insult is like mocking a whip because it is not a solid rod. There certainly are exceptions such as Ezra Aderhold, But most of your players who can throw huge bombs are not built like power lifters. Look at Gannon Buhr. By appearances, he would certainly fit the image of "noodle arm", yet it's nothing for him to throw 500. If your mindset is on noodle arm, it's mainly evidence that you don't know where the power of a shot is coming from anyway. The power comes from your lower legs driving, and your torso uncoiling and whipping your arm, so the more noodly your arm is, the easier and faster it can whip. The only muscles in your arm you really want to be using is your hand to keep a firm grip on the disc, and just enough to keep your arm in position, but other than that keep it as loose and untensed as possible.
@@lintottish thanks! I’m on the road to 300, 281 is my best sidearm yet. I’m a sidearm dominant player. I actually joke that my daughter has a better backhand than me, but there’s some truth to that!
@@DolphaysDiscGolf I don't think more than like 20% of pro's throw further than like 350 with a sidearm. My sidearm is a joke. Not sure I can get it further than 120.🥴
Thank you, Robbie! Just this year I started playing more and decided to focus on improving my form. I’ve watched dozens of videos on form and distance but, this was the one that made me realize one of my main form problems. Focused on adjusting my elbow positioning and instantly added 5mph on TechDisc while maintaining a flat / slightly nose down release! BTW - Big congrats on the baby!
I went out and played today and didnt really do any field work prior, but focused on getting my elbow ahead of me. i've been losing distance the older I get and I threw one shot on the course that landed in an area where I haven't been able to get to in almost 10 years.. Thanks for the help!!!
Spent a weekend at the Preserve and was throwing 360-390 all day long. Returned to SoCal the next weekend and couldn’t hit 310 off a cliff. I feel the distance pain. Forehand used to be up to 350 and now, after some shoulder issues and a lot of travel around the world for work, I’m back to square one.
Keep up the great content!!! Your putting video with you training your neighbor was very helpful. I can't wait for you to help with the forehand video on the neighbor!!! I'm going to love this video series of you learning to throw farther. I'm going to try this ASAP!!!
This is awesome Robbie! Especially love the supination tip. Coming from a baseball background, everything is pronation and I could never figure out why I would throw nose up no matter how hard I tried pouring the tea. Looking forward to trying it on the course!
Thanks for the video, and thanks for the honesty in your journey. If there was one thing I'd like to see come out of this video series it would be at the end, after you actually find out you crush to 500 ft, a video that summarizes different drills you can use to improve distance (like the one you used in this video).
I would remind us all that there are several 950+ rated FPO players that can't throw beyond 400-450. There is a lot more to the game than raw distance and we all have weak and strong parts to our game and Robbie is very strong around the putting green where he gains a lot of strokes on people who can throw further.
I’m totally ok with throwing the hat. In my group, if you can throw your hat or shoe father than you threw the disc, you get a free re-tee. Given some of the tight lines on Low Country SC courses, that happens quite a bit. A tee shot without a shoe can be pretty tricky though… Thanks for your efforts. Your enthusiasm on Robbie C, ITB, and BOTB are a joy. When you start a pen podcast, you’ll have hit on all my hobbies. You’ve inspired me to put my own content out there, too…
Knowing that consistently hitting 350 as an amateur is considered 'pretty far' is good for my brain to hear. I've been pretty down on myself for struggling to break the 350ish barrier.
I think you need to coil further with your hips. The old, "show your butt to the basket" addage. Your front foot is opening up before your throw, which kind of shows that the hips are open. Your throw happens with your weight most of the way over your plant foot, instead of more towards the center of your body. Try having your plant foot at less than 90 degrees (pointed back slightly), and feel like you are reaching out with the plant foot to then drop the heel and "squash the bug" so to say. The front foot facing inwards creates a tension that you can brace against when you pull through to create a harder whip. Otherwise, you get a baby swoop motion (like what I'm seeing here) and the disc gets a smooth, yet nose up release. That can be good for putters and mids, but for drivers you need that smash that comes from hitting the brace.
Thank YOU Robbie! I watched this video yesterday and went out to my local course here in Cols oh ended up with a 56 best score yet..even with yeet into the woods lol Keep up the good work!
I have a few concerns with your approach to fixing the elbow issue in your form: 1) you appear to be trying to use a "formfix" to compensate for a physical limitation - namely hunched posture => bad thoracic spine mobility and weak/no lat engagement. 2) done properly you shouldn't ever get to the "arm wrestling" comparison (this is way too "frontside" dominant signaling you to push your posture forward). My suggestions: 1) Strength and conditioning by way of pullups (assisted if necessary), rows (I like bentover barbell rows personally but any "wide" row is fine) and something like widegrip overhead squats with a light bar (possible a broomhandle). 2) Sometimes when working on a problem it helps to start at the end and work your way backwards which is why I DO like your idea of "feeling the elbow in front" but there is already a really good blueprint online for this: the original Beto drill from 2008 (sometimes spelled "Beato" since people apparantly don't know who Dan Beto is). It's an "overcorrective" drill though so I wouldn't want to throw it in as a general purpose drill for all kinds of issues. 3) weightshift is key. Ideally the weightshift settling through your front hip should cause you to switch from "back leg centered" to "front leg centered" core stability and the "hitch" through the hip should send a stretch impulse up through the side of your back triggering the pull with the lat which WILL send the disc towards the powerpocket forcefully allowing the elbow to get in front. As a warmup or general purpose practice backhand standstill approaches from 100-150' with half reachback focusing on getting the elbow in front is also a nice tool to use.
Appreciate you Robbie! I've actually incorporated your sign off into my weekly work meetings for my team (hope you have a great day (week) and hope you can make it great for someone else). I'll switch it up occasionally (tell someone you love them, or call a friend, or get outside, etc). Just wanted to show some appreciation for the positivity!
I like the elbow forward thing. I’ve been focused on whipping my forearm like I’m trying to pimp slap but my shoulder has pretty much been at a 90 and hasn’t been away from my body as i throw a lot of hyzer flip shots
As an amateur not at your level, the ones you said felt good and slowed down, the one thing I noticed that was similar, they were all a Higher Arm position than where you said "felt natural" it looked geometrically more powerful and had more precise angles. Much Love!
Lizotte said something in a video about curling the disc into the pocket rather than pulling it. That's something I find helpful both for keeping the elbow up as well as not retracting the shoulder.
Appreciate the detailed breakdown! 🧐 Just a small off-topic question: 😅 I only have these words 🤔. (behave today finger ski upon boy assault summer exhaust beauty stereo over). Can someone explain what this is? 😅
I found thinking about getting the elbow out in front caused me a lot of grip locking, instead, I thought about getting the disc in the pocket towards the right pec (since ur right handed) in doing so there is no where else for the elbow to go but ahead of the shoulder.
@Robbie, your main problem is you’re dropping your elbow, even when you think you’re hitting it, it’s dropping and you’re wrist / disc is under your elbow so that you’re throwing more from the hip rather than having everything in line. What people teach kids hitting baseballs is keep the elbow up to improve the swing plane so the shoulder doesn’t dip, same fundamentals in disc golf actually. You somehow even get the disc like physically underneath your elbow in the pocket, not just below the plane of your elbow and upper arm, which just can’t be powerful. I don’t even know how you do that, but it sticks out like a sore thumb to me. Second major problem which you can see in your side slow mo’s and this is my problem too…your “throwing your whole arm” or otherwise stated your elbow unfurls too early. Before you get to the hit point your arm is already straight and acting like a kite sucking power away vs opening as late as possible to aid and maintain the body rotation into the hit. Focus on opening that up as late as you can possibly do it. Pros don’t mess this up ever and it’s the key to the “tip of the whip” effect at the hit point, their elbow opens to full extension precisely at the hit point. Fail to do this and it doesn’t matter what else you’re doing right you won’t throw far cause all the energy will leak out. Btw with your elbow injury I don’t know there’s anything worse that you could do than the briefcase method, particularly if you take this full speed. It specifically puts extra strain on your forearm to elbow tendons and has a high chance of giving you tennis elbow. The rotation of the forearm at the highest speed portion of the throw is extremely not good for long term health.
Im on my road to 300. I made it once but it was like hurricane winds that carried it. I owned it for awhile but now Im being honest with myself that it didnt really count.
I recently got back into disc golf again after not playing for over a year and my drive is approaching 400ft with mediocre technique. Even before this I would golf a handful of time per year and still outdrive my friends. Weightlifting is my main hobby and allows me to drive pretty far even thought I hardly play disc golf. If you’re a disc golfer struggling to drive farther I’d highly recommend getting into weightlifting. Stuff like squats and deadlifts for strength. And stuff like cleans and jump squats for explosiveness. Also consider putting on some weight. I typically weigh 185-200lbs. There’s no way I could drive this far if I still weighed 160-170lbs. Hopefully that helps! Obviously dial in your driving technique is more important than anything.
I think your biggest leak is not getting power from the legs. You dont get the push with the right leg to turn the pelvis. That last guy Nash on Overthrow watch his pelvis firing which pushes the trunk and shoulders. Your throw feels rushed and I suspect your inner feeling is to jank because you "need" some oompf to get distance. My biggest gain has come from bending my knees even before I start the run up. It gives me the cue to more drift into the plant and push of the ground into the pelvis instead of stomping down and stopping. Also getting some more meat on top of the disc and moving the thumb can do wonders getting the disc to curl in better and pushing up the elbow!
BANDISCO literally just put out a video on using the Elbow lever to push 450-500. Robbie, you need to get that guy on. He explains things super well and throws mega far.
This could be a popular segment. So many beginners go to a field and chuck discs until they hit 250 to 300ft. They get stuck there and start YouTubing their way to improvements. The challenge is that everyone has different issues - sometimes a collection of issues. I've got my issues, you've got yours I see - that right shoulder up/disc down issue - no form review intended - that is purely for you and your coach to assess. But you get what I mean. For some people, their elbow is great, but they have horrible foot work; others, they rise up out of their posture, or they push their torso onto their brace; or they spin-out on a bent-knee brace; or their shoulders and arm travel at the same speed, on and on. For the intermediate player who is trying to go from 250 to 450, its hard to be all things to all people. But if anyone can do this, you can. A good coach is not someone who throws 500ft, but someone who is able to remove the barriers that the student has to making progress. For me, it would be great if you brought some willing students into these segments and try to work through some of these issues we all have...you have a good insight into how people throw and the problems they have.
Hey Robbie! I think part of the distance challenge is properly getting the hips involved. In the couple shots that you felt good your left hip was staying more in place rather than being pushed forward. Your hips just end up facing forwards but it doesn't look like your core and hips are fully engaged throughout the throw. For instance this video kind of explains it ua-cam.com/video/jl_2pwhJa18/v-deo.htmlsi=c83iAZOvkUhfRi0x&t=126
Not that Robbie will read this... But if you do... and your playing with your grip... Try gripping harder with the little finger (and its neighbor)... I'm playing with that at the mo.. getting near no early releases and the wrist seems a lot more relaxed as the 1st 2 fingers share a muscle over the wrist that tends to stiffen up the wrist as you clamp down on them.. Course I only throw 330 at 55yo but I'm working on it... (not that I need to, but where's the fun in being satisfied).
I like to imagine I'm giving someone 'The Peoples Elbow' just pretend smashing the elbow through someone's face! Also working on 360s helps understand the timing with more speed when goin back to the cross step
Can't hold a straight face when Robbie blurts out "Today we've got 15 innercores" ... I'm sure there's a law against that. "And we have innercores because of two factors" .... ohhh ohhh.... I know this one..... lessee, how'd it go.... "Well son... When a man loves a woman..."
I wonder when this myth of 'pulling through' with the elbow will die? Maybe when people realise none of the pros do it and amateurs never increase their distance with it.
To alll of you wanting to teach through youtube - please leave out the life history ..This video took over 20% runtime before getting to the point. zZzZZzzzz

Hey Robbie, I validate you as a human being, even if you can't throw 800ft or whatever
Even if you guys can't spell my name right in the Birdie Fam ;)
🤔
I want to know more details! I see your comment on all his videos. Lol
Robbie has a feva' and the only prescription is more BLITZ!
the flip bro? i started playing this game 2 days ago and first vid says how you doing today nick? thats me bruhh.... im doing well thanks
been away from disc golf for yr first robbie c video bro says how you doing nick lmao im good broo how are you robbiee
The soup or turn the key during the throw made my elbow soar. I did better with thinking of bringing the disc under the armpit.
I've never tried that intercourse disc!
I only intercourse using my disc
Do you pull through focusing on pushing the elbow forward? I have tried that and its just makes it worse for me.
Are we supposed to actively use the forearm to push the disc away after the powerpocket or no? I asked this on reddit and got mixed answers
Yess!!!
As a matter of fact, I am having a good day today Robbie! How are you?
Does coaching even work? Are there any touring, cashing pros that reference a form coach?
Check out Power Disc Golf Academy. Coaching absolutely works.
@@clintsawyer7702 This doesn't actually counter my statement. I was asking if there are any Pros using a coach, not Pros that offer coaching
Bro... I'm pretty sure this is exactly what I do...
Homework assignment accepted. Another great video. We relate to your honesty. That's encouraging to all of us
Not that Robbie will read this...
@@TheButlerNZ I’ll give it a shot!

You must of been asking me and I’m doing great 😃😃
When I hear the name "Elsa" it's "Born Free" that runs through my head... a generation thing I guess...

Wait, you just fucked me up w that “what up Nick”
Haha I’m on the road to 250. Same journey, different road.
I like to imagine I'm giving someone
'The Peoples Elbow' just pretend smashing the elbow through someone's face! Also working on 360s helps understand the timing with more speed when goin back to the cross step
What do you charge to review video for help with form control
My middle name is Nick (Nicholas) so close enough i will take it! how ya doin' Robbie? are you having a good one? :)
I notice you shrugging your shoulder when you tried this drill, try not to do that too much :)
smells like popcorn
Slingshot?

Spicy shirt dude. Looks HOT!
I noticed you had no weight shift whatsoever. Was that on purpose?
Intercourse. Hehe.
3:25 I thought he said intercourse
You're seriously over thinking this. Analysis of the simple creates undo complexity. Just throw a Frisbee dude. It's not that difficult
You should be posting in meters aswell because only 3 countries in the whole world are using the imperial system. 😂😂
When you defeat Hitler and save the world, you can pick the measurement system 😁
@@clintsawyer7702 Wtf has that dumbass got to with anything??
To alll of you wanting to teach through youtube - please leave out the life history ..This video took over 20% runtime before getting to the point. zZzZZzzzz
