Could back to back with the Swedish version 🤟❤️ For me Sabaton allways been a trubador storytelling "metal" band. Followed 20y now, I been lucky seen them and meet them a few times 🇸🇪
I have a theory with the Carolus Rex album: the English version is made for us to HEAR the story, but the Swedish version is made for us to FEEL the story. Let's face it, not knocking the English at all, but the Swedish hits way different. But you can agree or disagree.

should check out Sabaton en livstid i krig (a lifetime of war live in Gothenburg ) where Sabaton sings in Swedish where everything is recorded on stage and you see that band looks absolutely fantastic PS! very emotional song is subtitled in english

Carolus is a nick for Karl / Karl XII ho was king of Sweden from 5 april 1697-30 november 1718.

Carolus Rex is latin for King Karl
Charles of sweden. Karl XII. Last warrior king of sweden. Shot in total 4 times. First in the head but missed hes skull and knocked hes hat off. Once in the throat but bullet stopped in hes scarf. Third time in the foot, so he "missed" a couple of battles, he was in bed between 4 horses a bit away from the battle but got bored and spured the horses on into the battle stabbing around him from hes bed. Forth time in the side of hes head, 30th november 1718 at an age of 36. Karl XII of sweden was dead. Long live the king. The army carried him back to sweden and half of them died in a blizzard. Complete nutter if you ask me 🙈 read a few books about hes life and damn he was batshit crazy. Anyway, great reaction. More sabaton please 😁

I can say that a lot of what Sabaton produce is like marching music to rock, and it's really good. I can't recommend enough, the song "No Bullets Fly". It's a powerful true story of an event from the second world war. Very moving.

I saw an interview with the founder and basist - Pär. He refferred their genre as "History Metal" -As they are not too fond of being put into any special genre :-)
Nice video, I enjoy history. I was very intrigued when I read up on the character in this song, since he did indeed exist. And he was a master tactician, even in his teen. Man I just love youtube sometimes :D
Im Swedish and i think the english lyrics are better though a bit over the top but thats why they are good i guess 😉
Great reaction! This is one of my favourite Sabaton songs. A real masterpiece!🤘 Carolus Rex (Karl XII) was the last king of the Swedish empire. But he was a badass. Tsar Peter the Great of Russia wanted land by the Baltic Sea to build St. Petersburg. It took him 20 years to take that land from Sweden... It was Swedish territory at the time.
Check out Sabaton's "Long live the King" (official lyric video) and "Lion from the North" (official music video. That song is about another Swedish, badass king... )
Great reaction. I love these albums, especially the swedish version. It's basically a story of the Swedish Empire and the 30 year war. Would recommend start at the beginning of the Swedish version of the album and listen to the other songs in order. This is great music.

Their genre is true modern heavy metal. A lot of people call them 'power metal' but they are nothing like Dragonforce or the likes. They are true to the form heavy metal. And yeah. I do like this channel better every day. IDK who those three dislikes are. Probably miserable people who don't care to get Better Every Day.
Nah, there are many forms of Power Metal. Dragonforce, Stratovarius, Arion, Sonata Arctica, Powerwolf, Sabaton. It doesn't have to be fast, people just think that cause Dragonforce is the most known one. Heavy metal is stuff like Iron Maiden and Scorpions.
I believe that the Swedish versions from Piscator are the ones with yellow text :)
For this one, I think it might be different from person to person which version you'll like more.
I like the English version better, but I think it's because I heard that one first.
A little history of the Great Northern War and King Charles XII. Sweden won its independence from Denmark in the early 1500's. Then for the next 200 years, Sweden became an empire trying to turn the Baltic Sea into a Swedish lake. King Gustavus Adolphus, The Lion of the North, (Sabaton has a song on him as well), made Sweden into a major powerhouse. Gustavus shocked Europe in the 30 Years War with how effective his army was. King Charles XI fought a successful war in the mid 1600's, and thanks to his wise rule, Sweden prospered. Charles was eventually given complete control of Sweden and ruled without a check. Charles reformed the army and made them the toughest soldiers in Europe. (Sabaton The Carolean's Prayer). When Charles died in 1697, he left his 15 year old son as king. Sweden's enemies thought that it would be easy to reclaim their lost territories with a teenager on the throne. They underestimated Charles. (Charles' Latin form of his name was Carolus Rex, or King Charles). The War was first fought against Denmark as King Charles XII did a lightning campaign and nocked them out of the war. Then he moved 10,000 men east to fight the Russians besieging Narva. Narva is located in present day Estonia. Charles was outnumbered 4-1. Just as they were about to attack the Russian fortified camp, it started to snow. Charles took this as sign from heaven that God would cover his troops and give them victory. The Russians never saw the Swedes until they were upon them. After Narva, the Swedes moved into Poland to remove the King of Poland. (The King of Poland was a jerk. He had over 300 legitimate children!) It took about 7 years. Then Charles moved East with an army of 40,000 men to face the Russians. Czar Peter used scorched earth tactics against the Swedes who lived off the land. Charles lost over half of his men to disease and the extremely cold winter of 1708-1709. After some military blunders, Charles lost the rest of his army at the Battle of Poltava in Ukraine. Charles fled to the Ottoman empire where he tried to get them to attack Russia. The Turks blew it! They had the Czar and his army surrounded and let him off on easy promises that the Czar didn't adhere to. Eventually Charles traveled back home and led the defense. In 1719, he was killed at the siege of Fredrikstenin Norway. Which was owned by Denmark at the time. (Sabaton Long Live the King). Around this time the swedes defeated a Russian landing force near Stockholm as their last victory of the War. Peace was declared in 1721. Sweden would lose the Baltic states to Russia and Russia would give back Finland which they had captured after the battle of Poltava. Sweden would lose Finland to Russia in 1809. Charles was the soldier's King. He lived with his men. He always led from the front. And was a very good general. Despite being king, Charles never slept in a bed. He always dressed simply, and hated extravagance. A very complex king indeed.

I can recomend the live peformance of en livstid i krig, that one is in swedish but you can enable english subtitels in the youtube player. it's a really nice view of a live peformance where the whole audince sings along. there is a english version but with completly different lyrics they are both about the great war
Thirty Years' War, not the Great War
Musically Sabaton have all the hallmarks of power metal but I don't think they categorize themselves as that. Kind of similar sounding bands are Powerwolf and Orden Ogan if you wanna dig deeper but they have a more traditional power metal-sound.
You can't go wrong with Sabaton, enjoy the rabbit hole. I suggest you The red baron and The lion from the North (this one is from the same album than Carolus Rex). If you want to see their stage power, En Livstid i krig from The Great Tour.
This is considered "Power-Metal" It is a sub-genera of metal where the songs is a lot more produced. If you go more classical you end up in Symphonic metal territory which is a close sub-genre. But Metal is inclusive, every band is welcome here.

Yes, Sabaton is Metal. It's considered Power Metal, but admittedly it does have a different rhythm than typical Power Metal. Power Metal usually has a galloping bass drum beat and guitar riff, and higher pitched vocals, but there's no other subgenre that would fit this style of music. Back in the day, I called it War Metal because their songs relate back to historical wars, events, and leaders. Most of their songs relate to WWI and WWII, but they do cover other wars and military history as well. Like for instance, the album Carolus Rex is mostly about the Swedish Kingdoms period of like the 1600s I believe.
I would call it Power Metal, although people's opinions on this might differ. But whatever you want to call it, it ROCKS !!!

Sabaton would be considered classic heavy metal,, mixed with modern symphonic power metal. So its symphonic empowered heavy metal. Good luck understanding all the subgenres and micro genres haha.
