    Everything looks way too washed out, and the lighting changes make character hair almost glow in some cases, however interiors look nicer

      The original Oblivion had a sort of washed out look to begin with, so I think some of the mods may just exacerbate that effect

    I'm a purist when it comes to Oblivion and am usually not a huge fan of sweeping graphics overhauls, but gotta say I really like how you've managed to keep the games vibe intact with this setup while still making it look a lot better overall. Cheers.

    Now THIS is an Oblivion modding video! I must say, I am very surprised and impressed by this one. There are still things I am not fond of-- and I wanted to highlight those things to get your opinion on how I might be able to take inspiration of this modlist, while trying to fix the other things. Butplease don't take these criticisms to heart, as I think you've highlighted only merely my full passion for this game still, and how much I actually appreciate it.
    1. first and foremost, I am not a fan of the Oblivion CCO/character overhaul 2. Everyone uses it, with almost no alternative I can think of being present on the Nexus. Obviously the vanilla characters aren't great to look at, but they fit the vanilla game just fine, which I played without mods for over 15 years. I think it makes every single character's face almost entire the same for Men/Women to their respective genders, with overly pronounced eyebrows, and a uniform eye and face shape. No seriously, it makes all of the characters' faces for human races look almost identical. The "complexion" of how some character's faces are shaped in the base game is lost, as not just new .ini and face mesh files are present, someone has manipulated the way the individual characters look. It changes so drastically that it takes away the contrast of faces on people like Vernado, who has rather dark hair, but a fair Redguard complexion, to now having a flushed face, with nearly orange hair, and the wrong colour eyes. I do however like the Mer, and Beastfolk somewhat, though I still prefer CCO 1.0, which is what I use to resolve the overdone faces.
    2. The trees in Cheydinhal area MUST reflect the lore and the in-game description; Cheydinhal is located in the Nibenay Basin, which as such is home to many DIFFERENT types of trees than what are present in Colovia, the Heartlands, and Blackwood. This is *essential* to maintain in the game's visual appeal because it tells the player they are in a different region of the game. Having dogwood trees, willow trees, wisteria trees, and other crack-willow wood type trees is especially telling of the fauna of Nibenay region. When the mods you present change this, it becomes unremarkable, as if it could be really any other place in Cyrodiil.
    3. Interior lighting. It's a huge problem in this video. As a professional photographer I pay special attention to these details in video games, and I find that in a lot of the scenes, overall "bloom" aspects and the contrasting ratio of dynamic range (HDR) from dark to light tones is especially worser in some cases compared to the already hideously over-saturated and contrasted vanilla game. On the same topic of interiors, I noticed a mod you used extensively which replaces all of the cave floors with a rocky surface, rather than the mixed earth surface (or whatever it even was) from the vanilla game. I like it in some places, while in other places, it looks colossally out of place- for example, in the Imperial Subterrane, when you reach the square dais that has all the foodstuff and armor littered on the floor, this would definitely be dirt, instead of pure bedrock. Because these systems were built centuries and centuries ago, not just purely left as a construction project out of raw rock. This is also according to the lore, it would make sense for areas of renown to Imperial builders to have more of a built-up look to them, with easier navigable pathways and such.
    4. There's very little that is actually added to the groundcovers of the forests- pine needles? shrubs?- , the foliage, and the worldspace altogether. I guess I was expecting more ships in the water, more buildings added to the game, a larger Weye, that sort of thing. Maybe that is on the docket for the future? Anyway, I also noticed that not many mods exist which extend the effects of particle and elemental effects in the world. The game is very old so I'm not that surprised. Maybe OpenMW will have an Oblivion counterpart soon where this can be coded in? Things like a dedicated hand magic system (like Morrowind, which was then remade in Skyrim), constant effect novice destruction spells (like Skyrim), and in the menus, a different character stance. I really liked how your character looked in the Morrowind menus- static and yet also keen.

    I was ready to act all purist, but it does legit look good. It's all very easy on the eyes, which is a feat, as the vanilla game's aesthetic does hold up well.

    It's been a long time since I've played ESIV. I've been waiting for Skyblivion to come out but videos like these have me wondering if I should do my replay with a 2023 Oblivion mod list as opposed to Skyblivion.
    Anyone else have any thoughts?

    • @LucasSpurrell
      @LucasSpurrell Рік тому +3

      I think one of the reasons I'm liking the modded Oblivion as opposed the Skyblivion is the nostalgia factor. This looks like it will feel just like Oblivion always has just with some upgrades. It'll bring me back to first playing Oblivion and being blown away.
      Skyblivion seems like it's going to look and feel like Skyrim which isn't a bad thing by any means, it's going to look and play incredibly, it just won't hit me in the feels like I think a modded Oblivion would.

    • @CredoRP
      @CredoRP  Рік тому +3

      I agree with you there. Skyblivion will be a fun experience for sure, but there is a charm to the original game that will be hard to emulate. It's also so far away from being playable while Oblivion is readily available and cheap to get. You could probably complete a few playthroughs in modded Oblivion before Skyblivion is released.

    How stable is this? Oblivion is very crash prone when it comes to resource heavy mods, I notice you don’t have better cities which is probably the biggest issue

    • @CredoRP

      I never found Better Cities to be worth the performance drop, although it's been years since I tried it. As things are now I crash very rarely.

    I really want to play this game (I was too young when it first came out) but I cant get over the graphics :( Even with mods it looks bad man! I cant wait for skyblivion

  • @jackhallander6706
    @jackhallander6706 5 місяців тому

    I tried to do this years ago, but gave up because of how hard it is to mod Oblivion relative to Skyrim. I also thought that the mod authors put less thought into graphics mods than Skyrim mod authors.
    This is definitely the best overhaul of Oblivion I’ve seen, but it suffers from the problem that I used to see in Oblivion mods: they betray Ken Rolston’s vision of the game. It’s too washed out, as someone else here said. Oblivion is an extremely saturated, colorful game on purpose. This is evident when you look at the vanilla vs modded parts at the shrine of Azura or the Kvatch oblivion gate.
