- Hi! We are Abisha and Laheeb, the couple behind “The Curated Attic”. We love transforming antique and vintage furniture. This tutorial is about building a mid centipede modern style base for a piece of furniture!
Things needed for building a base are-
Choice of wood- I used oak here.
Wood glue- I used Titebond.
Pocket hole jig- Used Kreg tools
Pocket hole screws
Drill
Mitre saw/ Table saw/band saw - Ryobi
Track saw- Festool
Pencil
Measuring tape.
We used a mid century modern piece we have in our shop as an example for this makeover. The leg posts were 1.25” in thickness- we got it milled to the right size from a local lumber store. The aprons are 1x3s.
For making a template, unscrew the base from your inspiration piece. Lay it out on a thin sheet of plywood and trace it out. Use a jigsaw to cut it out!

Excellent 1st video!!! Already have it saved in my favorites. Hopefully, one day, I can make this myself ☺️
@@gingercontreras8511 Thank you🧡 You can do it!
Thank you for sharing. An exquisite and masterful job.
Love the curved details on this base. I've seen others create very similar bases, but this just really elevated it. Thanks so much for sharing...I guess I better go but a router, haha 😄
@@susanrichardson4025 That router detail makes the biggest difference! Go buy it! 🥰
The is a fantastic tutorial. The design is beautiful too. Keep making videos. I’ll be watching.

@@MichelleBeck-nc9lu I sure hope so too! Thanks so much 🧡
Really appreciate the tutorial. You create such beautiful pieces! I’m excited to learn from you. Now to find someone to let me use their band saw.😆
@@Restorations.by.Rachel Thank you so much Rachel! I hope you find someone soon- it is going to make a big difference 😁😁

Excellent tutorial Abisha! Concise and easy to follow. I’m going to try the original version one day, I have a piece that needs a base but it’s down the to-do list a ways. Lori @ Divinely Restored Design

Thanx Abisha & Laheeb a great video well done & well explained. I would like to ask that if I did not want to curved leg for the base (as I don’t have the necessary tools), could I just make it with straight lines ? Thanx
@@13Delna Yes, absolutely! If you look closer, you will see the back legs and apron are straight cuts and not curved. I just think the curve adds a little extra touch but it will still look okay without it!
What size is the cistom cut piece of oak for legs? Awesome tutorial!
@@bssladeful We got a plank of oak that was 6 inches in depth and milled to 1.25 inches in thickness. Depth and length doesn’t really matter as long as you have enough to cut a curved leg piece. Thickness though matters. I tried a 1.5” thickness at first and found that was quite thick and prefer 1.25”.
Awesome job! For your pole wrap, do you use oak or the mdf? I'm also in Canada (Vancouver Island), and am trying to source the best quality/affordability
@@mlr6795 Typically, I use mdf for painting purposes and to keep the cost down. If doing a wood finish, obviously I go with oak one. Also if a client doesn’t mind the price, I always go with the oak option!
@@Thecuratedattic thanks!
@@mlr6795 You’re welcome 🩷
Hi
Beautiful
How do you get the raw wood look. On your furniture
@@andreagorringe5785 I will do a video on that soon!
Great design, but you REALLY need to film landscape
@@harryobrien9035 I am struggling to figure that out. I will try that for my next video and see how it goes. Thanks so much for the feedback!
