How to Graft Avocado Trees Step by Step! 4 Varieties on 1 Tree!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 лип 2024
- Grafting avocado trees is fun and rewarding. Avocados are some of the healthiest fruit you can eat, and they are so expensive at the store. Why not grow them at home? You can get fruit faster and tastier with grafting. Like and Subscribe!
Varieties I grafted onto this tree are Nimlioh, Nabal, Jan Boyce, Hellen and Kona Sharwil. These varieties are special and rare, and they should be preserved and spread to the masses. They are delicious, unique, and deserve more recognition. Now that this grafting project is complete, these 4 varieties are growing on this tree, and all of them have different characteristics. They all mature at different times of the year, giving me an extended avocado season!
Contact me at AJSGARDEN123@gmail.com if you want a grafted tree like the one in this video! I have a mobile grafting service for folks in my area. I graft all sorts of fruit trees, including Avocados, Apples, Pears, Figs, Lemons, Limes, Oranges, Tangerines, Stone Fruits (Peaches, Apricots, Plums, etc.), Mulberries, Mangoes, Cherimoyas, Pomegranates, Persimmons, Jujubes, and Grapes. I also do pruning, tree planting, and yard consultations!

A tip for you, label each grafted branch with alum metal tags.
Good job.
I wanna see you get your hands on the Oro Negro variety. The story of Hass is very interesting, “A man kept it as a root stock but it never took his grafts, so he let it grow out, he was going to remove the tree, but his daughter loved the taste so he kept it, patented it and sold the patent for only $5,000.”
I’ve heard great things about Oro Negro. The Hass story is fascinating. Crazy how that one tree spawned millions and millions more
@@AJTheGraftMan I know if you get your hands on her, it’ll be the real deal too!
Thanks!
Thank you for sharing.😊
Thank you for sharing this 💖
Always graft ON TOP! of a branch and SUPER! QUICKLY!!!
Thank you for sharing.🥰
Super!
Great instructional video! I wish i had discovered your channel sooner as i just lost 9 out of my first 10 grafts. But i now know how to do it next time, just waiting on the next batch of seedlings to grow! thanks
Thanks!
Thank you it was so clear!!
Thanks for the video on grafting best I've seen I might need ya service some day soon I'm in S Cal Gardena to be exact !
Thanks! Yes sounds good
I did not realize there were so many varieties of avocado. New peep here. It is easy to follow your process. you are so thorough about how you are doing the graft.
Thanks! Yes there are so many different avocado varieties, and some of them are truly special and delicious
I only wish I had viewed your video on grafting a couple of years ago during the pandemic. I grafted my apple tree with another variety of apple. Little success 2nd year. Some years ago, in Pacific Beach a neighbor had a avocado/pear tree. Pears had a similar meat only sweeter.
Very informative👍
Great video!! We've been growing avocado trees in the Hudson Valley NY in containers from the compost, indoor in the winter, will try your method to get fruits faster! Thank you
Thanks! Good luck with the grafts!
Very informative good job thanks for sharing.
Thanks
I love the part where you spoke about the different varieties of avocados 🥑 very informative!

Excellent results per your usual. You make it look easy!

Hello AJ, I enjoy watching all your videos and have learnt quite a bit and thank you for that. I also live in San Diego, if ever you’re going to do some avocado pruning, please let me know and I will buy some Scions off of you. Thank you. It will be awesome to meet you
Thanks for watching my videos. Yes sure, sounds good. As my trees grow bigger, I’ll be able to give out more scions. Thanks
Wepp done bro really good work
Would love a update again some time.
Will do
Hi AJ. I like how I can scroll along the timeline of the video and you have labeled the different tasks at those moments in the video. I like how the branches are low on the rootstock plant - the Reed Seedling - and it seems as though it will make for lower scaffolding branches and you can prune it better to keep it low. That will be a popular tree. Thanks for the video. And your Jan Boyce scion being an "A" type flowering tree will help to pollinate the the Nimlioh, Sharwil, Nabal, and Hellen scions which are all "B" type scions. If the Reed seedling is like its parent, you will have another "A" type scion to help the cause. How do you keep the camera so steady for the videos? Are you using your phone or a camera? - Neal in Anaheim
Thanks Neal!
Thank you for this video! I plan on grafting some Hass scions to my 8 year old tree grown from seed but has never flowered/fruited. Your tutorial is very easy to follow.
AJ thanks so much for sharing. Is it possible to buy some of the scions you use in the video?
Hi Aj! From Portugal, you are an expert on grafting, I am amazed at your knowledge.and technique. We all learn a lot from you keep up the good work.
Thank you! Hope your grafts took!
Hi from Portugal also, I am looking for scion wood, do you have any availability? ^^
@@Nazimus What are the varieties you are looking for?
@@miett49 Some rare varieties like : GEM, SirPrize, Nabal, Mexicola etc.
@@Nazimus Ola Bell Nazim! Jose
Fantastic video and explanation, thank you. One question - do the grafted branches then keep their own variety's growth characteristics? What I mean is if you graft a larger tree variety onto a smaller variety, will that branch grow more vigorously than the host tree and have to be pruned more often? Thank you.
Thanks! Great questions! I’ll do a video that will hopefully answer your questions
Hi Aj, your video was suggested and now you have a new subscriber. Do you sell any of your avocado scions? Would like to buy some.
Love it man. Been watching your videos on avocados for years. Learned so much. Would love to get a Pinkerton scion. Where can I find them?
Hi A.J. Love your videos and you have encouraged me to try my hand at grafting. Thank you. I have a healthy 8 ft. Zutano tree that I'm going to use for grafting(not very fond of it's fruit) Do you sell scions of the varieties mentioned in this video, or know where I can buy some? I already have the more common varieties so i'm looking for something a little different. Kona Sharwil, Gwen, Hellin, I Thank you ahead of time for any information.

Where is the link to buy that California Avocado tee? Love it!
I don't remember where I bought it from. I'll try to find out.

Hi, Have you ever used growth hormone powder or liquid to boost the grafting process and to promote good strong vigorous growth on the mating surfaces ?
I’ve never tried this
AJ is there a video showing fruit from grafts? How large do you let these trees get?
Here’s an update video from another grafted tree with fruit: ua-cam.com/video/yJg1bBqeVxs/v-deo.html
Best avocado grafting video I’ve seen! Great job! Where do you find the Scions to graft? I have been growing a lot of route stock for the last five or six years but I have not been able to find avocado trees to take healthy cuttings from. (I’m in nor cal)
Wow thanks! Scions come from own trees or from friends’ trees. Best place to get scions is to join the California rare fruit growers club (CRFG) they have scion exchanges every year!
@@AJTheGraftMan awesome, thank you! I have never heard of that group. I’ll look for one near me! I’d love to buy from you if you sold any too 🤗
What’s up AJ thanks for your videos man! I was wondering if I could buy some scion wood from you I’m located in Mountain View California.
What variety do you have ? I have a reed, fuerte and sir prize. Looking for Pinkerton, lamb hass, and Gwen. I’m in NorCal as well.
Love your channel , I have 15 hass and a k sharwell, sir prize... the question is... WHERE DID YOU GET THE COOL T SHIRT BRO ??
Thanks! Not sure, it was a gift.
Next time you are on vacation in Hawaii, namely Kona, you can stop by my place and graft to your hearts content…
Do you do scion exchanges? I have most of the local cultivars….
Thanks for the invite. I love the Big Island and it's always a fun trip. So many awesome fruit trees and edibles. Sure I'll try to visit your place next time. If you want, send me an email ajsgarden123@gmail.com
Interesting where did you purchase your scions from?
Scions come from my other trees
Good morning, I will like to know if you sell avocado trees, I reside in Kissimmee, Florida.
Thank you
Hi A.J. my friend gave me some clippings from her avocado tree. It was 24 hours before I got the scions into the fridge, will they still work for grafting ?
Should be ok
Update on your multigraft tree?
Doing well. Growing fine.
I live in Santa Barbara. The flower buds on the avo trees here have already sprouted and grown for about 3 weeks now. Is ok to try and graft now or should i wait until next week or a different season? thanks for the video
I meant next year.
It’s hard to find good growth buds when the trees are in flower. I would wait until the tree is finished flowering and leaf buds start to appear again. A good time for Santa Barbara is Late summer to early fall
am zambian, how many types of Avocado and which type is on demand
Hi AJ, where did you get the Nimlioh scion?
Hi Pat. Nimlioh scion came from my multigrafted tree. Thanks
Where do you usually get your scions from?
Hello question for you when is the rite time or season to graft an avocado tree???

im in Escondido have a fuerte, hass and reed, where can i get these other varieties, can't find them in nurseries
I sell grafted trees from time to time
I'm in zone 9b (25deg F). If I plant a single Mexicola Grande tree, could I get fruit by grafting B type scions for a multigrafted tree? versus planting a second tree next to it? Trying to weigh the pros and cons of multiple trees vs a single multigrafted tree.
Either way works. If you're low on space, a multigraft tree would be a better option
great video, newbie here just start learning? Do you sell scions?
How do you make a tree give avocados year round?
Grafting
Thank you! I am looking for scions to graft on my Chochotte seedling..
Can you direct me to some one who offers them please? Thank you. 💞

How old is seedling plant? Can I graft multiple varieties to one year old seedling plant which is already 6 feet heigjt?
Yeah you can
Yeah you can depending how many branches you have growing out , one variety per branch
What is the best time of year to graft avocadoes, or does it even matter?

How do you consider on rootstock

how much money do you charge for grafting avocado tree. Mine is 5 yrs old and un grafted i recently found out about avocado not growing true to seed. By the way i live in anaheim , california , and i sent you a email.
I haven’t received your email. Ajsgarden123@gmail.com
I will try again
Pls my avocado has grown to a big tree ...and it is not fruiting ...can i graft so it can start bearing fruit😢
Yes you can try grafting it
Don't you have to graft it at rootstock?
Not necessarily. Any branch big enough can receive a scion
@@AJTheGraftMan Have you successfully grafted a branch that have fruits?
Did you blaze before the video? Lol
😂
Nice
Why not transplanting the tree while it's young? It's sad you want to cut it down.
It’s really tough to transplant avocado trees this size. Their root system is very sensitive
@@AJTheGraftMan Worth trying though. If you do it late February and prune it at the same time it should be okay.
At least that's the experience I've had.
I did 5 grafts last year and none took. So disheartening.
Don’t give up!
The tree is so weird i think it will be grate variety you shouldn't grafted it let's it. You can try grafting on new tree .
