after years of planting and growing avocado seeds since i was a child I evetually grew an avocado varitey that is unique but it took over a decade to grow. I didn't think it would amount to much and when bought my own house I planted it there. It eventually gave fruit but I thought it was a bad type grown from seed. still I didn't cut the tree down and I was glad i didn't. It developed into the most valuable avocado tree i have ever seen. It produces a two pound avocado that had the does not spoil after being cut open for almost a week. It stays fresh and good kept in the refrigerator crisper so you can slice it all week and use it in your meals . I have come to love this avocado with it wonderful taste but i have yet to patent it . I now grow a lot more aovocado seeds so i can develop root stock to graft this unique avocado tree. Thsi is why I am watching your video. For now i call it the MPpp avocado. i have started growing the seeds but I know they won't come out thje same and only cloning will produce the same tree but I want to keep trying to invent new straine of avocado trees so I grow a lot from seed. We are a small orchard in Valencia, Spain. We are moving from an old variety of orange to Hass avocados. Last winter here was unusually cold and we lost 60 out of our 200 baby trees. However, most have regrown directly from the Zutano rootstock, so now we are going to re-graft Hass scions using your technique. Fingers crossed and thanks for great videos..!
Yes sir!! ..going to have to try this one. It's our wet season in Thailand and quite cool now before the flowering season comes new year, perfect time for grafting. All our trees are from seed but we have 2 favourites i believe of the Fuerte variety, one is particularly rich in oil and I'm doing as much propagation surgery as possible on a few dozen saplings around the garden. I notice that it helps to cover the scions with a small plastic bag to protect them from the regular rains we get here. I have grafted Reed onto Lula rootstock for my Florida yard. It's thriving and I am happy each time I see it flush new growth. Part of the excitement of growing fruit trees in my yard is the hope and anticipation.

I have a very rare variety. In fact, it's one of a kind. Yes, it's a seedling but it's grown in Canada and got to 3 metres before I cut it back last summer. It's now 2 metres tall and a lollipop shape. It's about 4 years old now and I'll be moving it up in pot size from the 5 gallon bucket it had lived in for almost 2 years. I know that seedlings are "whatever" to people living in avocado growing zones but it's my plant baby :)
I have Miki avocado which already tall. It has very nice fruits, sweet taste, not wet but buttery. Good for table fruit. Avarage size is 500gr. This variety is good for low land (below 200 m sea level and warm place) I tried grafted it several time on Alligator avocado rootstock with no luck. Alligator also good variety and suitable for low land. But I want to have two kind of avocado in one tree. I did not succed may be I did not tight it well since I did not use proper tape. Thanks for the tutorial I will try another with your technic, since my rootstock exactly the same size as yours in this video.

By any chance do you have any scions available? The recent storm snapped my Reed in half. I think it’s a perfect opportunity to make a multi graft tree.
Instead of the grafting tape you use, give Parafilm a try. It seems to snap less than the one you use, and is a bit more flexible and stretches more too. It may be sligly more expensive, but $30 for a 250 ft rool (2 inches wide) will stretch to like 750 ft so it will last you a loooong time.

I notice at 5:15 , there's a branch out just below your bark grafting , can it be kept in case if it fruit one day, then we can know the original flavor of the fruit produce from this avocado tree.
The only method I never tried. I have Fuerte trees. Fruits weigh from 300 to 500 gms Flowering starts in Sep and again in end Dec!! Fruits are ready bu end Jul but I find those harvested in end Sep are far better flavored. Anyway, thanks for the video. I have over 300 saplings and I am going to try it though it is now 29 Sep 2021.

Thanks. You can pick Reeds starting in June, and they're good then. By July they're really good. The longer they stay on the tree, the more oil content develops. If you pick them in August and onwards, they're extraordinary :)

Hi there. Thanks for subscribing and watching my videos. All I can think of is to keep trying as many grafts as you can. The next time you prune any branches, practice making grafting cuts on the branches to improve your technique. Good luck!

I always thought avocado tree goes into a semi-dormant or quiescent state in the fall and stop growing. Doesn't that make it not a so good time to graft?

@@kirstyglasgow8289 better to leave some leaves when grafting to larger trees. It keeps the nutrients flowing from the roots to the branches of the tree. For younger trees, I’ve seen and done both- remove all leaves or leave some on- and gotten good results with both
TomYi247 yes you can. All avocado varieties are graft compatible to each other. You cannot graft avocado to apple or mango or anything else. Only avocado to avocado

Another great video mate. Just one question. You sliced your scion wood long on one side, short on the other. Does the long side go onto the white wood ? In other words , does the long side face the centre of the seeding trunk?
I wonder what could happen, if the SCIONS borrowed from the mother tree that was grown from the seed and the and grafted on the same tree ? Will the mother tree give the fruit more quickly from the grafted tree, than from the tree already grown from the seed itself ?

Growing well yes. The Reed graft seems to have totally overtaken the Pinkerton though. I should have been more vigilant with pruning the Reed growth.
