Pattern cards are a efficient way of documenting sewing tips and saving my favorite patterns with out unfolding the whole tissue pattern pieces I rarely use. Thanks 🧵
As a new fashion designer - THANK YOU. My manufacturer emailed me asking for one and had no idea what it was.
Our instructor literally shared your tutorial as the best instruction for our Construction class. Thank you!
Thank you so much Zoe for sharing these information. A great help for me as I have started learning sewing and pattern making. I am learning so much from you. I will definitely do this on my own company. Much love and appreciation from the Philippines.
I have been designing women fashion for years but never completed my Moores college of art degree, but I have learned so much from your videos teaching.
I watch your videos literally every day. You. are. awesome. Thanks for all the work you do creating and sharing these videos with us.

loosey-goosey is literally my new favourite thing to say right now. I just walk around the house and use it in almost every sentence. "Why is dinner so loosey-goosey tonight?" or "Geez, that fridge sounds really loosey-goosey"
Your usage of loosey-goosey is pretty loosey-goosey, which makes it all meta loosey-goosey. You know, in a loosey-goosey sort of way.
Very systematic... love it Zoe.. thanks for this ❤😙
Thank you! I really needed this you covered things I had no idea about I have been filling my cards out incorrectly.
you're welcome!

So love these videos
Hi Zoe! I've been watching your videos every single day. I'm like obsessed with them. LolI wanted to watch your videos from oldest to newest, but I couldn't help myself and clicked on this video. I didn't find it boring at all. In fact, I found it very interesting and will start applying this to when I make a pattern. I've noticed you make videos in a flowy chronological manner & I just think its great! Since you made this video in regards to how to fill out pattern cards, I was wondering if a "how to sewing instruction" card was to be expected soon? Thank you so much btw!! I've learned so much more from you, thn I've learned from past fashion design teachers that really didn't seem to be that passionate in teaching anymore. Please never stop! :,)
Hey, thanks for your comment! Yes, I'm doing a video for each part of a tech pack. Sewing instructions often are pointed out on flats, so make sure you're practicing your flats.
Zoe Hong Trust, I'm practicing every single day & watching your videos more thn once if needed. 😊 Thank you so much!
Can i just say that i LIVE for her eyebrows in every video. Always on point.
thank you!
Wonderful..thank you so much as always ..
You're welcome!
Zoe, when you have a small, med, large range for the line, how much of a range within the small should the garment fit by inches? such as "Small: Waist, 24-26?" Thank you so much for all your information always!❤
Love this!! You were reading my mind lol but I'm still stuck on how to draft patterns from measurements (like store ready or manufacturer measurements) and make the same pattern style for each size.
Get a good pattern making book. Helen Joseph-Armstrong has a good one, so does Connie Crawford. I'm sure there are other good ones too. Making patterns in different sizes is a process called grading and they have separate books for that. Jack Handford has a good one.
love you so much! I took a notepad to make notes. haha
Thank you so much for sharing this. It is really helpful. :)
You're welcome!
Sitting at home (00:00 am) with temperature and I was just going to steal a glance to see what is the new video about and go to bed... 18 minutes later: :O It ended... Sooo interesting and important! Thanks, Zoe!
Go to bed and drink lots of fluids! Hope you feel better soon!
Thanks, Zoe!
zoe , years ago I failed an A level fashion exam and I have wondering why because I worked so hard. one of the questions was what is miss pattern? half size pattern, I would like an answer please. Thank you for this channel. I have learnt a lot and my confidence as a designer has improved. Thank you once again.
Zoey how do u make pattern that really used for sewing love ur chanel big fan love ur work
You’re simply adorable God bless you girl🥰
Very valuable human being!!!!
Thank you🙏🏽
I was just going to ask you ! because I don't know how to make my own and every other one I find is not good! thank you!!! I'm working on my toddler line, little sunbeam and although I'm hiring a pattern maker I want to do as much as possible myself.
Thanks for posting. I like the idea to add SA info.
You're welcome!
Hey Zoe! GREAT VIDEO EVER! I'm patternmaking student and this video came in such great time! Did you put all seam allowances in the final pattern piece? Did you use or know Bunka Pattern Making books?
I always put seam allowances on my patterns. I'm not familiar with the Bunka books.
Notification squad where you at
Nice presentation.
Thank you so much for the video, I learned more information about patterns card. The only thing I just wanted to ask is why Sample Maker always sew 🪡 and finished samples not exactly my pattern garments sizes, even though I wrote down all notch on my patterns. I am meaning…There are having points to connect them to each other and the seam boundary, but they still don't sew to that boundary, so when the pattern is finished it's not the same size from the shape that I created. So this is Not good a sample maker ? Or this is my fault? Because I was missed some notes on patterns card or we have to write more instructions how to sew it for the sample maker ?
I love you. Thanks for sharing.
You're welcome!
been very helpful :D
:D
nope. never boring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : )

Question I have a few designs I'm interested in sending to a manufacturer to receive samples but I am unable to draw actual sketches good enough to see the details.. what would you recommend. Also can I just send in the ones I sew myself for the tech pack?
Hi, I plan to create my flats in adobe illustrator and fill out the pattern cards for them. Aren’t these the only things necessary to hand to a pattern maker? And then, once the pattern is made on the Manila colored paper, is that considered the completed tech pack for a garment? Can it then be sent to production?
you are the best teacher I've got the way you demonstrate is really awesome I love watch your vedio and have learned lot of things so far but mam I humbly request would you make one vedio about merchandising that how to be a successful merchandiser
Sorry, but I don't know much about merchandising.
Embroideries and other details (a lace hem appliqué for example) can be listed in the notes? If does, I need to attach a nome/code/reference of the material or the technique used?
Like the zipper, the pattern maker should make note of trims if they are affected by the pattern.
The exact trim will be decided by the designer, not the pattern maker. If the flat sketch shows, for example, a ribbon along the hem, then the pattern maker should mark on the card "finished hem = X inches, yield for ribbon = X inches + seam allowance" or something like that. Pattern maker notes how much you need, but you can finalize/change the exact ribbon later in your Bill of Materials.
Embroidery is a treatment, not a trim. Embroidery placement will be discussed with your embroiderer. You will give the embroiderer the cut final fabric and mark, for example, "embroidery starts 4" from center front, 6" down from high shoulder point".
Hi Zoe, where can i get pattern hooks?
Cool zoe i was asking if its possible for you to put that empty pattern card on pinterest thanks
No, but I put it in my etsy shop www.etsy.com/listing/475252506/pattern-card-template
Hi Zoe! Question. Since cutters don't fold their fabrics before they cut the way home sewers do, is it okay to write "Cut 2" on a pattern instead of making 2 physical patterns that say "cut 1" on them?? I hope this makes sense. Thanks!
This system is from when all patterns, grades, and markers were made by hand. When you're doing patterns by hand, what you're supposed to do is literally cut 2 of the pattern piece, mirror images of each other, like a left sleeve and a right sleeve. Usually people just staple 2 sheets together, cut them out together, leave them stapled, and then the marker maker would separate all the stapled pieces to create the marker. And then you label cut 2 on the pattern card to calculate yield.
U are so good! I'm very happy that I found you. you should try to create a virtual "step by step to become a desiger" school . God gave you a gift to teach. ;) when I will become a designer, in my biography i will write your name. Thank you for what you do. Greetings from Europe ;))
Thanks for your comment. You're very kind. Greetings to Europe!
Do you have a draft/block for this I would find them sooooo useful
I sell pattern card templates at zoehong.etsy.com.
Will be doing a video on the style numbers? What number to start with for your pattern pieces
I already have one. Check my "Technical Side of Fashion" playlist.
Zoe Hong Hi I know you get messages daily. So I have been sawing for about 10 year. Went to school, but didn’t finish. Learned mainly from watching in mom. My husband is currently pushing me to do a UA-cam page and honestly I am afraid. What insight could you give me if you have any. Oh I love your UA-cam channel it has helped me a lot. Thank you for your inspiration
Do it. What's the worst that could happen? Do a youtube channel on something you absolutely love. Don't invest in a lot of $$$ equipment. Watch some videos--there are a ton of "how to start a channel" videos.
I'm one of your viewers finishing her final garment project lol
You are amazing
thanks!
Omg, I just happened to find your channel and I'm so excited. You are amazing. Now I'm going to go unsubscribe from everyone else. Thank u thank u thank u
WHAT ABOUT A MARKER NOTE ON THE CUTTERSMUST?
quisiera que tenga subtitulo español me encantaría poder entenderlo mas .
SON MUY LINDOS LOS VIDEOS QUE DIOS E BENDIGA
Hi Zoe! Why is SA 3/8" and not 1/2". Thank you! Great video!
For most straight seams, the only difference between 3/8" sa and 1/2" sa is you waste a lot more fabric with a 1/2" sa. It does not alter garment performance. You'd probably cut if off when overlocking anyway.
Do you also send a sample of the product, or is the pattern card enough? Thanks in advance.
The pattern card accompanies the pattern. You can send a sewing sample, they always help, but aren't necessary as long as you have a good pattern and accompanying pattern card.
Do you have a video on making patterns?
I don't do pattern making or sewing videos.
Hey Zoe, thank you for everything you do. Please i have illustrations for my designs. And I‘m looking for a spec and tech packer. Can you please recommend with contacts anyone u know that can be of help please? Or filet me know your price let me check if I can afford you. 🤗🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

It's in the queue for later this winter.

hahahahaha~ I did! Oops.
Can you show us how to pattern cut
No, I don't teach patternmaking. Possibly in a few years but the request queue for designer/illustrator related subjects currently goes to Feb 2018.
Zoe Hong ok thanks
🌹🌻🌺🌿🌼🌞🌞🌞🍀🍀🍀
Where can i buy the pattern card?
You can make your own in Microsoft Excel or similar software by copying my format.
Zoe Hong got it. Also could you do some fashion poses starter packs? I tried sketching but my figures end up looking like aliens. Also if its not to much to ask could you do a video on bridal wear?
Yeah, my next 'practice pack' for my etsy store will be on croquis. And bridal wear drawing + vocab video is in the queue for this winter.
Zoe Hong yayyyy
So other people were asking for the pattern card so I'm selling my template on etsy: www.etsy.com/listing/475252506/pattern-card-template
I watch for shits and giggles. :)
Sweet! Hope you're having fun!
I would love you to be my lecturer.
