    Pattern cards are a efficient way of documenting sewing tips and saving my favorite patterns with out unfolding the whole tissue pattern pieces I rarely use. Thanks 🧵

    loosey-goosey is literally my new favourite thing to say right now. I just walk around the house and use it in almost every sentence. "Why is dinner so loosey-goosey tonight?" or "Geez, that fridge sounds really loosey-goosey"

    • @zoehongteaches
      @zoehongteaches  7 років тому +3

      Your usage of loosey-goosey is pretty loosey-goosey, which makes it all meta loosey-goosey. You know, in a loosey-goosey sort of way.

    Hi Zoe! I've been watching your videos every single day. I'm like obsessed with them. LolI wanted to watch your videos from oldest to newest, but I couldn't help myself and clicked on this video. I didn't find it boring at all. In fact, I found it very interesting and will start applying this to when I make a pattern. I've noticed you make videos in a flowy chronological manner & I just think its great! Since you made this video in regards to how to fill out pattern cards, I was wondering if a "how to sewing instruction" card was to be expected soon? Thank you so much btw!! I've learned so much more from you, thn I've learned from past fashion design teachers that really didn't seem to be that passionate in teaching anymore. Please never stop! :,)

    Love this!! You were reading my mind lol but I'm still stuck on how to draft patterns from measurements (like store ready or manufacturer measurements) and make the same pattern style for each size.

    • @zoehongteaches
      @zoehongteaches  7 років тому +1

      Get a good pattern making book. Helen Joseph-Armstrong has a good one, so does Connie Crawford. I'm sure there are other good ones too. Making patterns in different sizes is a process called grading and they have separate books for that. Jack Handford has a good one.

    Thank you so much for the video, I learned more information about patterns card. The only thing I just wanted to ask is why Sample Maker always sew 🪡 and finished samples not exactly my pattern garments sizes, even though I wrote down all notch on my patterns. I am meaning…There are having points to connect them to each other and the seam boundary, but they still don't sew to that boundary, so when the pattern is finished it's not the same size from the shape that I created. So this is Not good a sample maker ? Or this is my fault? Because I was missed some notes on patterns card or we have to write more instructions how to sew it for the sample maker ?

    Question I have a few designs I'm interested in sending to a manufacturer to receive samples but I am unable to draw actual sketches good enough to see the details.. what would you recommend. Also can I just send in the ones I sew myself for the tech pack?

  • @serendipity1273
    @serendipity1273 5 років тому

    Hi, I plan to create my flats in adobe illustrator and fill out the pattern cards for them. Aren’t these the only things necessary to hand to a pattern maker? And then, once the pattern is made on the Manila colored paper, is that considered the completed tech pack for a garment? Can it then be sent to production?

    Embroideries and other details (a lace hem appliqué for example) can be listed in the notes? If does, I need to attach a nome/code/reference of the material or the technique used?

    • @zoehongteaches
      @zoehongteaches  7 років тому

      Like the zipper, the pattern maker should make note of trims if they are affected by the pattern.
      The exact trim will be decided by the designer, not the pattern maker. If the flat sketch shows, for example, a ribbon along the hem, then the pattern maker should mark on the card "finished hem = X inches, yield for ribbon = X inches + seam allowance" or something like that. Pattern maker notes how much you need, but you can finalize/change the exact ribbon later in your Bill of Materials.
      Embroidery is a treatment, not a trim. Embroidery placement will be discussed with your embroiderer. You will give the embroiderer the cut final fabric and mark, for example, "embroidery starts 4" from center front, 6" down from high shoulder point".

    Hi Zoe! Question. Since cutters don't fold their fabrics before they cut the way home sewers do, is it okay to write "Cut 2" on a pattern instead of making 2 physical patterns that say "cut 1" on them?? I hope this makes sense. Thanks!

    • @zoehongteaches
      @zoehongteaches  7 років тому +1

      This system is from when all patterns, grades, and markers were made by hand. When you're doing patterns by hand, what you're supposed to do is literally cut 2 of the pattern piece, mirror images of each other, like a left sleeve and a right sleeve. Usually people just staple 2 sheets together, cut them out together, leave them stapled, and then the marker maker would separate all the stapled pieces to create the marker. And then you label cut 2 on the pattern card to calculate yield.

    • @zoehongteaches
      @zoehongteaches  7 років тому +2

      For most straight seams, the only difference between 3/8" sa and 1/2" sa is you waste a lot more fabric with a 1/2" sa. It does not alter garment performance. You'd probably cut if off when overlocking anyway.
