Korea is one of the most SUPERFICIAL countries around. Not all Koreans are, but it's sad to say that a MAJORITY are. As far as being racist to Filipino's, it's the darn new generation. Our Generation. They either never learned of, or completely forgot that the Philippines and South Korea have historically been and continue to be close diplomatic and military allies. They are also significant economic partners in terms of trade, immigration, and tourism. In fact, The Philippines was the fifth state to recognize the Republic of Korea and the first ASEAN country to establish relations with the new nation in 1949. Oh, and guess what...during the Korean War (1950-1953), the Philippines sent its forces to aid South Korea. The Philippines was even the FIRST Asian country to respond to the call of the United Nations (UN) to help South Korea when it was invaded by Chinese and North Korean communist forces. The Philippines played a vital role in helping South Korea win its Freedom and Independence. But who cares about our History of Love and Respect, especially the help we've provided for each other right? The new generation seems to want to start their own "history," and amongst it all, racism and hate for other foreigners. That's sad.
Adding onto that, koreans even claim fried chicken to be their own whilst having a clear prejudice against black people. Those african american soldiers during the war are the reason we even have korean fried chicken in the first place.

South Korea is going extinct due to their catastrophic low birth rates, society is so cold and cruel over there, no one gives a shit about a country having huge suicide rates especially in younger generation, no one values importance of free time such as vacationing, socializing due to jobs there literally overworking people to death, and these issues keep getting worse for the every year, nothing changes and sadly they can’t turn it back, korea is not a developed society, it’s like their numb to where they’re as a society, I love Korea but I would never live there, would be a complete nightmare!!

@@mintyaa-e3z Yeah, so does racism exist in all countries. Korea is doing good considering the fact that no foreign media portraying other races was available in Korea until 1988.
I live in Canada and am not Korean. Back in high school, when I had Korean friends- when we hung out in the group they’d just start talking exclusively in Korean even if there were one or two of us that understood nothing. Most of them were born in Canada too. Idk what was up with that. I can speak Chinese and a bit of Japanese but I wouldn’t ever alienate a member of the friend group like that. If we hung out in a group with several of us who know how to speak Chinese and one girl who doesn’t- we’re going to speak English.
sometimes ppl do it just to practice their native tongue. as living in a foreign country, they don't get much chance to speak it and can quickly forget. so if there's like 5 ppl in the group and 2 ppl are having a conversation between them, they can often devolve into speaking their native tongue. and if that happens with another 2 ppl talking between themselves. it could look like they are alienating you, when actually that is a unforeseen consequence they hadn't noticed.

I grew up facing enough subtle racism being one of the few Asians in my town (80s-early 90s) and as one of only 3 Filipinos let me just say, it was rough enough dealing with the white kids, let alone the majority minority Koreans, who formed cliques and later gangs in high school. I had a Korean best friend when I was in middle school, but his parents hated me. Once we hit high school, he dropped me as a friend and joined the K-clique. I never knew why until I heard from a mutual Korean acquaintance that his church encouraged their youth groups to only be part of the Korean community and that other Asians (especially Filipinos) didn’t make for quality friendships. That hurt me to the core because me and my former friend were SO tight.

I hate to say it but you are right. I lived in Korea for 14 years, my wife is Korean, and we have a hagwan there still today. They will call the police on you and the police will take their word over yours. You can even be prosecuted for saying an exasperated curse word in English. If the person is older than you, especially if they are elderly you are completely out of luck as they can make stuff up completely out of no where. Older people will shoulder check you, even the ajummas (middle aged married women) and harmonies (grandmas), and you can’t respond. I’m a white American and because my wife and I have a hagwan our students would always tell us that their parents would say we are rich, who many times would try to create incidents in an attempt to sue us or try to get free tuition. My wife is a graduate of Yeonsei University (similar to Princeton) and she is always the target of gossip, jealousy, and innuendos by students mothers. US Embassy is useless and staffed by Koreans or Korean Americans!!! Unlike America, you can be prosecuted up to three times for the same crime if the accuser feels dissatisfied with your punishment or if you are somehow found innocent. If you ever end up in court, even if the police are on your side (a rarity), you are 99.9% chance to have a guilty verdict handed down against you. This of course is similar to Japan, who Koreans are taught to hate through their public school system. They say Japan and Japanese culture is great without Japanese people. Filipinos, Vietnamese, and other Southeast Asians are used for dangerous factory jobs, and they are severely looked down upon. I remember when I first landed in Korea to work. I was told that Korea is for Koreans and that when Koreans become proficient enough in English that there would be no use for foreigners to teach anymore since Koreans would be the teachers of English then. Anyways, there’s a lot more that my 14 years could say, but I think you get the point. Don’t get me wrong. Korea is a very modern country and a very convenient place to live. The racism doesn’t bother me per se, except when the law gets involved and your word as a foreigner means nothing. I remember when I first got my permanent residence card in Korea a foreigner who had been there longer than me told me that I was finally half human. Anyways, if you go to Korea for one year, maybe even two years you can get by with no problems but the longer you stay the higher your chances are of getting caught up in a situation, which will be very unfortunate for you.

Also Mahindra an Indian conglomerate faced so many issues with Ssangyongs upper Korean management that they decided to divest from them after 10 years or ownership apparently due to racism towards the Indian managers (this despite the fact Mahindra saved Ssangyong from bankruptcy in 2011 from then Chinese owners SIAC)
The West and Turkey have amplified their dehumanizing stereotypes against South Asians, examples being: street sh*tters, scammers, savages, filthy, r@pists, etc. Now, they are adding a new stereotype“zoophilia “. I am pretty sure you have seen this on social media where trolls take articles about animals r@ped in India and post it. The West has been dehumanizing South Asians for over a century. It's so strange how things have changed. Back then from post war and even well into the 2000s, there were many Filipinos who looked down on Koreans but idolized Japanese. Now it's different. I personally met many Filipinos back then who were learning Japanese culture/language/etc. and knew nothing of Korea (except it was war torn). But now, apparently they know EVERYTHING about Korea. Granted some still idolize Japan, but K-Wave really overtook mainstream there. When I asked about Japan and how far they got to learning the language, they told me Korean was easier to learn to read and write and they gave up learning Japanese. One told me that Japanese was (and I QUOTE) "Too many Chinese characters to memorize. Too hard." I asked if they still wanted to visit Japan, most told me yes. But they wanted to visit Seoul more or at least first. Some said not anymore. It sounded like an excuse to just abandon the country they idolized for the new one that was trending. I feel like if another "wave" in Asia flows through, this is going to happen all over again. Then again by then, Korea will be probably be old news so who knows.

That's sad.

Korean women are ok. But K media way overrated. In global scene, they are no where in the top 20.

South Koreans.
I applaud you for your honesty. Thank you.
Sometimes the best thing to do is ignore it and walk away.
