  • Today I visit one of my favourite Scottish towns - Oban. Featuring scenic drone footage of Oban and surrounding area, an esplanade walk, and short drive through the town. Sit back, relax and enjoy 😊
    Oban Facts below 👇
    1. Gateway to the Isles: Oban is often referred to as the “Gateway to the Isles” due to its location on the west coast of Scotland, making it a major ferry port connecting to the Inner and Outer Hebrides. Islands that can be reached from Oban include Coll, Tiree, Barra, South Uist, Colonsay, Lismore, Kerrera, Mull and Islay.
    2. Whisky Distillery: Oban is home to the Oban Distillery, which produces a distinctive single malt Scotch whisky known for its smooth and fruity flavor profile.
    3. Landmarks: The town is characterized by its picturesque harbor, dominated by McCaig’s Tower, a granite folly overlooking the town that offers panoramic views of the surrounding area.
    4. Seafood Capital: Oban is renowned for its fresh seafood, particularly its locally caught seafood such as lobster, crab, and scallops. Visitors often come to Oban to enjoy the delicious seafood offerings.
    5. Cultural Events: Throughout the year, Oban hosts various cultural events, including the Oban Winter Festival, Highland Games, and is host to the national MOD(Gaelic Music and Culture Week) this year 2024 in October, attracting visitors from around the world.
    6. Outdoor Activities: The surrounding area offers ample opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, sailing, kayaking, and wildlife watching, with attractions like Dunstaffnage Castle and McCaigs Tower.
    7. Gaelic Heritage: Oban is situated in an area where Gaelic culture and language have a strong presence, adding to the town’s unique cultural identity.
    8. Tourism Hub: Due to its scenic beauty, historic landmarks, and access to the Scottish islands, Oban is a popular tourist destination, drawing visitors seeking both relaxation and adventure. And is aptly known as the ‘Gateway to the Isles’
How to get to the radio tower/ mast for scenic views of Oban. Copy and paste this link into browser or map. If you have any issues accessing it. Contact me and ill will give you directions. There is a small housing complex with ample parking once you turn off Glenmore road, Oban. Park and follow the road around - here you will find a gate going uphill with a small pond adjacent.

Love going to Oban for Waverley and ferry sails. Good restuarants and hotels overlooking the bay for an evening drink with great sunsets.

The driving videos make me sea sick! But thank you for everything else! Highlander offspring from long ago, here. Im sure you've heard it before...but we still feel the connection, generations later in faraway lands. 😢 👍😎🇨🇦🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    Thanks for this!
Best place to self-cater, if it's still available, is the Bayview Apartment above The Gem Box on the Esplanade. Incredible views and the chocolate shop is a 60 second walk away!

@@coasttocoast23 Another treasure is the Oban Fish & Chip Shop on George St (EE-USK was overpriced and overrated, both food and service - it was a slow night too)

Ogden Nash, popularised by Spike Milligan: “The Spring is sprung, the grass is riz, I wonder where the boidies is? They say the boids is on the wing; but dat’s absurd - the wings is on the boids.”

A beautiful white balance.. You can be well proud of this Video .. Everything just jumps into focus. Keep em coming big Lad.🤓💯💯❤‍🩹. A quick note. I notice you are using the front facing camera lens on your phone. I would suggest you frame the shot this way and then swivel the phone on your gimbal to use the higher resolution rear lens. You can see how having to upscale your front facing camera footage head shot to 4k has caused a wild over sharpening . The usual rear lens would capture at 4k 150k bit rate using THE OPEN CAMERA app.

Thanks fella. Yes, just getting used to filming with the real lens when talking to the camera. On this occasion I decided to forget..

@@coasttocoast23at ❤4k you will be able to move the framing around in post to keep you framed nicely. Also allows for a bit background isolation and blurring mimicking a proper video digital slr vlog camera. 👍 😁. All nice skills to add to the toolkit and get the best out of the vlogs

Any chance of you doing a trip around Arisaig / Mallaig? Is there still the little car ferry across to Skye from Mallaig? I remember a tiny café overlooking the water at Arisaig where we had langouistines just landed a couple of hours before 😋😋😋

Hi Linda, yes planning on a trip up there in the coming months. Arisaig is on my list. I will make sure it’s a nice day weather wise for filming as Arisaig has some of the nicest beaches I’ve seen😊
