  • From Jack Lee's Greatest Hits Vol. 1 (Maiden America). As witnessed on UA-cam, Lee performed it with his band The Nerves as early as June 1977. Lee also wrote Hanging On The Telephone, famously covered by Blondie.
Come Back And Stay became a big European smash for Paul Young in 1983.
Thanks Joop Jansen (audio) and Dick Rosemont (artwork).

    Two brilliant songs.

@@XmanSully Jack was in a trio called The Nerves that lasted for all of one EP. The other two guys were more successful. Drummer Paul Collins formed The Beat (the reason that the other The Beat are known as the The English Beat), and bassist Peter Case formed The Plimsouls, the band that did "A Million Miles Away".

Actually, Jack's VERY original version, live with the Nerves, was the one that really rocked! Of course, rock was assassinated in the early '70s, when Britain's rockers, genuine beneath the glam and glitter, were forbidden entry, at least to the airwaves, and "new wave" rockers were stifled on their home soil as the '80s neared. Didja ever wonder why so many records were pressed, released, and tossed in the cutout dumpsters? Of course, if I were to voice my suspicions, I'd be a "conspiracy theorist," wouldn't I?
