awesome stuff so far! speaking to me on this one. Im making excuses for profitability on size, knowledge and location. "paying tuition" for learning how to run cows is what i keep saying. I need to focus more on the profitability side. im on 20 acres 6 pairs of corriente with beef calves, but i drive 1.5 hours each way twice a week so fuel really does take all my profits.
Just found your channel tonight and very excited that I did. Being you had come from the financial profession to farming and ranching you could help separate your content from others by delving into more financial side, such as: Your start full vs partime Lease vs owned Acreage and head count per move Paddock fencing permanent or temporary Costs of land in your area owned vs rental Health and medical insurance (I believe this alone keeps most people chained to a desk job) Your family participation and thoughts would also be interesting Overall great videos and I look forwards to many more future videos
neat stuff ben. beautiful country. I noticed what seemed to be a few hard doin bulls. I would like to recommend Johann zietsman to learn from as far as a grass genetic guru. I wouldn't be so gung-ho on increasing the cori frame as id be finding the best bulls to take your herd in an all grass direction. hope I don't sound too preachy. keep up the good work
Thanks for the input! I’m a huge Zietsman fan. I believe our females can be bigger than the majority of our Corrientes and still maintain “practical fertility”
You sure got a herd of em. Do the horns ever cause any issue because I watched one the other day and they had a stocker operation and he said he got docked for horns longer than the ears.
I really just don’t understand why more people aren’t running Corriente cows. If I had the land I would have all Corriente. Money making little cows. Of course sire needs to be any small birth weight beef bull
You don't need to rely on LBW bulls with corriente cows, especially if they're 2nd or 3rd calf cows. Plenty of people throw Debrucker charolais on them, I know dudes with full framed brahmas over them to make maternal crosses, I know dudes who chunk scale-mashin' ultrablacks and brafords over them.
@@quailjailss You aren't really doing anything to them they can't stand. If you wanted to do that for a corriente heifer I'd get it but the biggest pro of a seasoned corriente cow, the pro that balances out all of her negatives, is that she never gets sick and always gets pregnant and she'll usually bat a thousand for unassisted birth under range conditions and then turn around and throw her all into the calf and turn around and breed back on time. So there's nothing to worry about if you use a bull that isn't LBW on one especially if she's had a calf or two already. The days of the cow-killing bulls in most breeds are mostly over, those traits have been heavily selected against through the 90s and 2000s.
We are selecting for beefier type in our Corrientes. They make great beef in a cross.
Agree 100%
Helpful and coherent information. Thanks
Thanks!
Love the videos. Full of helpful information. Do you all ever sell any south poll heifers?
We will have several for sale later in the year
Nice videos. Fellow Arkansan here in west central Arkansas.

There are a Amy’s to move cattle without you being present. Check out gate latches that work on timers. I plan to do a review of them at some point
@Grazing 365 yes i made one with a timer cabinet latch and box, but im hopefully using it to get closer to daily moves more than going less
Way to be resourceful Mason

78yr old countyboy, retired. I'm on the same track, had cross breed Corriente cows in the past and planning to get a South Poll bull when I can
I think it’s a great cross
Nice cow's
Thanks!

Thank you for the video. How do you like Corrente calf off red Angus, or even on a south poll bull? Specially, on a midsize bull? Thank you
Great video, very informative.
Thanks!
I’d like to see the calves out of these crosses !
Stay tuned!
Great information
Thanks
😊
Why not use Charolais bulls on the Corrientes
water is so important
Yes it is!
You sure got a herd of em. Do the horns ever cause any issue because I watched one the other day and they had a stocker operation and he said he got docked for horns longer than the ears.
I should have waited for the end of the video. Thanks any way.
They will get severely discounted unless horns are removed all the way to under the skin

Exactly! They pencil really well

@@auburn696 Oh I wouldn’t want to do that to them. But I know the guys that can take a few losses usually don’t mind risking it.

How many days do you feed hay on average?
Ben do you have 5 cows for sale? Bred.
I do.
