His microphone is so far up because he used to get stage fright. Lemmy put it that way so he didn't have to look at the audience. Lemmy was THE BEST! I always say Ace Of Spades is what it must feel like to be shot out of a cannon at an instant 100mph. 😂
Damn, after all these years I was led to believe Lemmy said it was to spot any beer bottles that came their way lol. I have many fond memories of this song when it came out, me and my buddies thrashed the hell out of it... happy days!
Song is an ode to "Speed". "Motorhead" was slang for the drug speed. Lemmy being a lyrical genius used poker as a metaphor and the musical intensity as the feeling. 🤘❤️🇨🇦
Sorry mate, but you're wrong on two counts - motorhead was slang for a speed freak, not the drug itself and he actually wrote a song called Motorhead, which I think is the one you're actually referring to. He was still playing with Hawkwind when he wrote it and he used it as the name for his new band after he was kicked out of Hawkwind.
I was in a pub in birmingham Uk (where Motohead were formed)in the early 90s and a huge fight broke out when this was on. It was wonderful and so fitting.🎉😂 👊 🇬🇧
Such a Timeless look that Motorhead perfected. I mean that song is freaking 40-plus years old now? Something like that... And it still kicks a metric ton of ass when you see them Frozen in time here just tearing into it like it was fresh bag of methamphetamine. God bless Lemmy and Motorhead filthy animal Taylor and fast Eddie Clark. All three of them have gone into the Beyond now but their music continues to inspire
Lemmy does not play a bass guitar like a bass guitar. He plays it like a lead guitar! Phil 'Filthy Animal' Taylor on drums developed the double bass drum thrash metal speed play you see here. He was the first to do that, and it is simply astonishing to witness. Note that Phil is moving so fast, BUT never misses a single beat. Incredible. Fast Eddie Clarke's contribution on the lead guitar should not be underrated as his sweet melodic sound was essential to the overall sound of the band. These three legends together generated a wonderful sound. For me it was never the loudness of Motorhead that mattered, but the sound. These three were really unique in their sound. Later lines ups of Motorhead did not recreate that sound. All now dead and playing in Heaven. Motorhead always called themselves a rock band, but they were the beginning of all the heavy metal groups that came after them, and were respected by Punks. They were the link between heavy rock and punk. Next song by Motorhead? Try The Hammer with the same line up. Another wonderful song. Why was Lemmy's microphone canted upwards? Easy answer, Lemmy was somewhat stage shy and never liked looking directly at the audience when he was singing. That's why.
The first song I heard by them back in the 80s was "Killed By Death", and I was blown away. Funny story: a few years back I was in the emergency ward of a hospital and I needed help. I was out in the hallway on a gurney, and the nurse didn't hear me. So I pulled out my Kindle, round UA-cam, cranked it up ALL THE WAY and started playing "Killed By Death". The nurse RAN over, saying " YOU CAN'T DO THAT HERE", so I turned it down, apologized, and asked how else I could have gotten help, with no call button. She apologized and said that she would be back in two minutes. The band has as very unapologetic about who and what they were. They started all their shows with "WE ARE MOTORHEAD, AND WE PLAY ROCK SND ROLL". And so they did, for almost 40 years.
John and Lulu, another song by Motorhead that you should definitely check-out is "Eat The Rich" Which was the title track of a B-Movie that Lemmy had a starring role in
This song has the speed of a top fuel funny car and the power of a hydrogen bomb! This is my favorite Motörhead song and I will never stop loving and listening to it!
From fans! From UA-cam recommendations! From jumping down a rabbit hole and seeing where it takes us! Like for Motorhead, it's because of an amazing cover of their song 1916 from Sabaton!
The mic is so high up because with the Lemmy-growl voice, it is easier to belt it out with your chin inclined. Your throat becomes a sort of straight-pipe.
Give this vid a 👍for more Motorhead reactions!

Plus he was tall as shit saw playing with the Ramones at their last show.
It also just helps with singing in general, lifting your head up like that opens up your airway more so it's actually easier to sing in that position.
@chriswhinery925 which was another reason why Lemmy had his microphone set so high up as he'd stated in an interview that he did once

He was one of the best live shows I've ever seen
"We are Motorhead.... we play rock and roll."
Son of a bitch, stole my comment. Good on ya, from one motörhead to another.

He also used to say that with the mic so high he couldn't see how few people were in the audience in the early days before they hit success.

they were a great band,i have all their records
It wasn't Mötorheads version of 1916, it's the original song.
And it's the only version. F*** Sabaton. Leave it to that band to make an anti war song a warmongering song.

distorted bass , fuck yeah !
The drummer was called ANIMAL.
Saw them live a few times and one of the loudest bands I have heard. Ears would take a few days to settle afterwards.
When see the first time live on stage the Motorhead after can't hear clean for 2-3 days later.Born to lose, live to win🤘
When Lemmy reached 60ish he started to sing the part;
"That's the way I like it baby, I don't wanna live forever...but apparently I am"
The first song I heard by them back in the 80s was "Killed By Death", and I was blown away.

Lemmy say that he positioned the mic that way because it opened up his airway and let him sing louder, and it was better for his posture.
The "Love song to Speed"
Refers to speed....as in powdered Methamphetamine
Noooo 😂just good old amphetamine Sulphate !!

Fast Eddie Clark for the guitar
The 'game' and the 'gamble' is Life, and the Ace of Spades is the Death card.
No breaks in this song FAST FAST FAST
Lemmy was the King of 'Speeeeed' 😂🎉 (they all were)🎉❤
He holds the mic high to assist his voice getting to the upper range.
Great stuff - greetings from Finland!
Manowar - Warriors of the World United please!
It's a very old blues song, even Johnny Cash did a cover
How do you guys get your song choices? I just found you and subbed

Lemmy is God!
Lemmy's diet was Jack Daniels, speed and cigarettes

Kriminella guitarrer! Greetings from Jonas Gothenburg Sweden. ❤!!!😊
The mic is so high up because with the Lemmy-growl voice, it is easier to belt it out with your chin inclined. Your throat becomes a sort of straight-pipe.
Lemmy was talking about the drug 'speed' (amphetamines). Just saying.
LuLu you are absolutely beautiful ❤️
I think he meant amphetamine
