I've heard very mixed things about this... I've heard that because they're epiphytic using a slightly smaller pot can help to mimic how they'd naturally grow. But then again, I've been doing things this way for a while and had lots of struggles with Anthuriums, so maybe I should change things up!
thank you for pointing out what to look for to avoid “poached” plants. i would never want to contribute to the destruction of the beautiful rainforests. from what i understand, not all plants collected from naure are technically poached. while poaching indicates illegality, there are many places where it’s legal to harvest certain species from their natural habitat.
Really like these videos. Just nice easy watching like hanging out with a friend! Could you do a video on all the plant trellis ideas as I'd love to get some inspiration!
Those white plant shelves are great to put your plants on. For small - medium plants. Bigger and taller plants feels awkward on shelves so i usually put them in there own place in a corner spaces of the home. Another reason i don’t do plants on poles and trellis as takes up too much space. I like to be able to use my home space without plants overtaking my home. I would go crazy and be so stressed. Also i got to think about the people i live with too. I will be back travelling again since Covid has died down and kinda back to normal. So i will be owning plants that can last without watering for a long time which i will only own in the future and more easy going plants. Another reason i don’t grow tropical and adroids. I only grow Hoya’s, Cacti, Succulents and Sansevieria’s now this year.
Hello and thank you, I love these more relaxed videos so yes please keep inviting us along with plant pottering. The plants look great on the shelves, I know that when I felt my plants looked a little busy, I changed the cash pots to the same colour (white but all different textures, shapes and sizes) with occasional special pots mixed in felt calmer, more cohesive and let the plants ‘pop’, also all from the local charity shops as well so not too pricy and all to a good cause. 🪴 ❤
You can buy these handy succulent soil scoops with a flat base and a slightly pointy tip to direct the soil into the pot.. it’ll save you making a mess 😂👍!
Im thinking the rug is ruined.... it so funny. it's still outside 😂😂😂 Shelfs look great. I've been thinking of getting my plants off the floor. I might need to look into getting something like them, as im getting a puppy in the next few weeks... excited😊
Hi Claire, there are certain maturity stages to the anthurium flowers that refer to maturity of the plant itself. Basically your anthurium flower skipping the female stage and going straight to the male one means that the inflorescence itself is quite immature. As the plant matures, the inflos will too and the next one will do better. Let’s say second or third next one should have both stages. This used to happen to my clarinervium. I went through the plant maturing enough to switch from petiole to cataphyll stage when it comes to putting out leaves and in the same time it started to give me inflos. They were dying rather quickly or didn’t develop fully until the plant matured some more. There’s no reason to worry, such process/progress is natural 😊
I really enjoy the long videos, and your spontaneous one was just as enjoyable. When I’m doing plants chores, cleaning or work at home, I turn you on and listen to your chatter. It keeps me company..thank you!
You made my day, I watched your complete plant tour from a year ago (two parts) and was thinking about a video on anthuriums update. And here it is. Thanks a lot!
Love you Claire! Thanks for the long video! It kept me occupied while trying to learn how to edit my own UA-cam video. lol. 😂 I hope to upload my second video today. Filming comes easy. However editing makes me crazy! Sooooo you kept me chill in lieu of donkey Kong smashing my computer. Jk. It’s a process and I’m learning. Just like the hobby. Always learning. I love your pali! It’s next on my list! Sending love from Florida!
@@TheJungleHaven omg thank you. 😊 I’m literally so excited! You are my inspo girly! I’m so grateful I found you. Thanks for all the tips tricks and advice!
Claire hi from Wisconsin, thank you for this video.I love spending time with you.Your very plant care knowledgeable and it helps.Congratulations on getting a wishlist plant. And lets just call that rug your outside yoga rug ,it stays onbthe porch to do yoga, there no guilt. You and Ross take care and be healthy.
This has to be one of my fav videos of yours. You were so happy and you did a big variety tasks. Potting the anthurium was great for me to see, I need to do more or less the same tasks. PS…..get that rug pegged up on your balcony in the next few days with no rain forecast. Dry it, bang out the dirt and dust and let Joli have it 😂 for muddy paws! X
I love being your backboard to bounce stuff off of, my hubby helps me with that though he doesn’t care about plants lol Omgosh that fern leaf cactus!!! Jelly!! I have a big orchid cactus that’s exploding I want that one so much I have to really watch my Hoyas growth, they get caught up into anything and EVERYTHING, I did NOT know about the counter clockwise thing, now I gotta go look! Even if your dubia is facing away from you to the window, I really appreciate the light coming through the leaves, I think I’d be ok with it facing away from me
Congratulations on the purchase of your wish list plant. Seeing the joy on your face, while unboxing, shows it was worth it. I recently bought my wish list plant, an Anthurium - Clarinervium and certainly no regrets. If it sparks joy, then it is the right reason to buy!!! I love your fern leaf cactus too. So beautiful. Now I want one 🤭.
Suggest move left shelf over to the right more and put dubia before up against the curtain? I think if i have size of shelves correct then you will still have 1 clear door/window and a nice green backing to the shelf..see how it looks might make the shelves not look aligned but worth a look as it would put it out of walkway but give it a space of its own in front of the window
This is such a good shout - I think I'd need to put sturdier things on the bottom shelf to do this (I tried it initially and Joli walked straight through the lower shelf haha)
Ah yay you got the pallidiflorum, fwi eastern tropicals are the best! Sarah that owns the shop is just fantastic and so clued up on what plants she sells, they really do get the best of care. So glad you got one ❤
I got lots of planty things done with you for company ❤ i took cuttings from perperomia hope and put them into semi hydro ,they seem to be doing ok and have started giving me new growth x
That was such a special video! Thank you for sharing this part of your day with us. I love the new shelves - they open it up visually while showcasing your plants. Can't wait to see how the left one turned out! I also have to say I absolutely adore your sweater! Looks cozy and polished and delightful! Enjoy your Anthurium Pallidiflorum, and all the rest. I'm going to try air layering mine after seeing your outstanding results! I'm new to Anthurium - got a Regale as a gift with a purchase! The world's gone mad. 😂 Please do more videos like this. You've got such a lonely way of communicating your thought process. You're a delight, Claire!
Omg that pallidiflorum is so perfect!! I just got my first anthurium; anthurium pallidiflorum, warocqueanum & veitchii & I’m so nervous. I just jumped right in 😅 I will def be trying that moss trick with the aerial roots!!
I have purchased several varieties of shelves and tried to put together an eye pleasing grouping that also works for my plants. My most helpful idea was all matching ivory colored pots. I to ordered macrame cord for hiding the original container. Hiding all the odd containers works wonderfully creating a shelf art of various shapes and sizes. My plants are also more highlighted.
If you didn’t have the door in the way, you can actually use the spare shelves on that shelving unit and connect between the shelves. In effect, this gives you three shelves for the price of two.
Love your work ❤ 😊I so proud that help more on information about plants and tips as well enjoy see I love them plants yours Claire your simple the best💯👍
Hi Claire, I've been binge-watching all your videos from before Christmas till now. December was a rough month so focusing on my little plant collection and having the company of your voice kept my mind off my troubles. I do have one curiosity: Is there a plant in your collection you haven't chopped?
Is it just me or does the new pots looks like the same hight as the ols ones just a bit wider? And i am so excited to see what you regal will do after the chop. I wish it all the best
I thought a spider was hanging from your right underarm area of your sweater when you were repotting your new plants and I watched it dangle there the whole time. I was waiting for it to like, crawl up onto your arm and surprise you. 😮 Not guna lie, I was a little worried at first and said, “oh no!! You’ve got a spider on you!! Grab it Claire!” ….but it just continued to dangle and clearly wasn’t a spider at all… 😂😂😂 hahaha
Can you do a cabinet how to? I want to get one but would love to know how you put yours together and all the accessories you got to make it work for you.
First I want say love your channel, your plants look amazing. I too live in apartment so as much love that many, don't have the space. Have a couple questions. First I watched a video you did a couple years ago and found a plant on the side of the road, what ever happened to it? The question is is there such a thing as a mini monsters plant? I really love it and would make space for it.😀 have a great day
Love this style of video! So nice and chilled 🙂 i bought a pallidiflorum 3 weeks ago....its in pon....but wondering now if thats best...i heard anthuriums do well in pon....will see how it gets on and may transfer ro soil 🤔
Hello Claire, did you try propogating in Fluval Stratum. It Works soooo good. It's basicly the same system as the semi hydro you do. Fill a cup with the stratum, fill it up with water little bit more than half the cup. It goes really great in short time. I do also a little drup of Super Thrive in the water for the roots to be stronger. Like your video's a lot!!! grtz from Belgium 🤩
Thanks so much for the tip, I have only experimented with FS a few times back when I lived at my mum's (as she had fish and it was easy to get). I should definitely give it another go!
I think it will be better if u mix soils insteed of making layers. I use lots of bark to make airy feel. Roots of anthurium loves hug bark. Semi hydro mix is to heavy for anthurium. I use lots of bark plus small grid from fish shop plus tiny add of soil and little perlite. On top i add moss . You can see how nice roots grow in moss. Moss give them lost of air pocket and constant wetness. They hate sit in water. So water must just go out of them almost complitly after watering time. It is better water them even twice at week and let water out then water one a week and let water stay in pot after watering. They love space so repot faster than philodendrons (don't wait for root bond).
Hey! I love your jumper - please let me know where you bought it?! Also, I love your videos - I only have 10 houseplants, but I'm growing my collection, and I learn a lot from you, so thank you! ❤ xx
Pallidiflorum is one of my favorites as well! I love your sweater ❤ I believe you call it a jumper...? I've been meaning to ask you about the floor plant next to your white cabinet. What is it? I've admired it many times! When you are repotting the veitchi, it's over your left shoulder
Lovely little pallidiflorum. I have one and the latest leaf is 1m long, so, so long. It can only go in one place in my house, in the spare room where no one sees it 😢. I’d rather have more leaves that are shorter. I’m not really sure how to stop the leaves growing so long. It’s in semi hydro. I love it but I’m the only person who visits it
love your videos, your are just so nice to listen to and I like your stile (video and also interior/personal), also Ross is a fun addition, nice so see him pop in ever now and then. wow that fridek with the greenish-white leaf has such a big leaf, is that it´s first one? All my alocatia babys start with tiny leaves. But the colour is really fun, reminds me of a minth variegation, I´m very curious to see how the next leaves will look. I also have 2 babay fridek right now, one is completely white (3 tiny pure white leaves so far) guess it won´t make it but I keep it until it dies or grows some green. The other one is alternating white and nicely variegated leafers (4th leaf comming in right now), so there is hope it will be ok.
Hi Claire could you share where you got your wire shelves from please i could use these to rearrange my plants like you. If you could share a link please x
I was able to propagate my Hope by using seed starter pods in a cupcake container. I didn’t cut the leaves in half, I believe I just stuck the cut part of the leaf into the peat moss pod. 🤷♀️
I have a var Frydek in fluval and it is busting out of it's cache pot! It already has roots down into the reservoir. What do you recommend?? I don't have any larger pots and as soon as I pot it up larger the roots just explode again! Do I just let it be cramped? It is actually bending the plastic. Thank you!
Also, I’ve seen Charmaine (@unplantparenthood) grow anthurium back from chonks many times! And the regale chonk I’m sure you can even cut it into a few sections since, it looks like there’s roots from multiple points down the stem! I’d say it’s worth a shot regardless! ❤
Why don’t u shift ur sofa towards the window a little bit-turn the shelves nearest the kitchen a quarter & actually block the walkway off creating a plant corner!! Then you can keep the Dubia facing the window……I’m only 15 mins in so I don’t know how you settled yet x
If it's just the odd leaf here or there it's likely nothing to worry about and just the life cycle of the plant. If it's dropping lots of leaves, first port of call would be to check the roots and make sure they're healthy IMO
Help! I just got a glorious cutting but it was in transit for about a week and a half in the cold. It was a little damaged, I cleaned everything with water and peroxide but it keeps getting bits of mold even with air flow... 😢 Any advice?
Do you mean the leaf or the chonk? If it's the leaf I'd personally chop it and prop from a wetstick, however if it's the node itself I would prune right back, HP and leave to callous in a fairly dry space
Never got a corm to sprout. I need to get my plant game together! Sooo sad after Brexit (just because, it was easy to get things from and to the UK, from Denmark, before) even “tower” pots is hard to get. Love your content, it’s always on when I do planty-things. :)
For me it works like a charm the shallow water method. Had a corm in moss starting to rot, transfered it to a small cup with a bit of water at the bottom and in about 2 days it was pushing roots.
I need help with trelising my hoyas. Watching UA-cam and not knowing if the video is mirrored or flipped, i have no idea what actual counter clockwise look like.
If I'm a hoya n I come from the soil level, looking up a trellis, wouldn't counter clockwise mean from right, go over the trellis, go left, go under the trellis? 🤔
The monstera "dubia" isn't a dubia though... Is it??? What is it called please?? I thought dubia looked different... Please let me know! I am a beginner!! Thanks. Love your videos Claire 🥰
So it's absolutely a Dubia, it's just a mature form of the Dubia. Mine started very small on a plank, but as it grew and matured it started fenestrating, and now it looks like this!
Wow, that's fascinating!! Thank you. It's amazing how things change as they mature!! I would never have guessed that it's the same plant. Thank you!!!!
I think the rug needs it's own UA-cam channel! 🤣
This made me howl
The coffee machine too 😂
😂, I’d haul it up to the laundrette and give it its own spa day😅
I once saw a Facebook page for someone's lawn chairs lol
So many of us are invested in the rug now 😂
Love the long form videos! That rug owns the balcony at this point, better start charging rent in this economy 😆
Ahahah these comments about the rug are making my day 😂
Hey Claire, anthuriums don’t prefer to be root bound - they can actually go up a pot size or two quite regularily. It promotes bigger foliage 💙
Agree :) speeds up the maturing process as well if you do it from seedling stage. They can take generous pot size ups. The cataphylls will appear much faster. Small pots can trick them to flower sooner if that matters but i much prefer giving the roots room
Yes, they don’t mind a snug fit, but definitely don’t like being root bound.
I've heard very mixed things about this... I've heard that because they're epiphytic using a slightly smaller pot can help to mimic how they'd naturally grow. But then again, I've been doing things this way for a while and had lots of struggles with Anthuriums, so maybe I should change things up!
@@TheJungleHaven it’s all about doing what works best for you 💗
mine only give growth when they need repotting though, like when I give them more space I have to wait so long for growth that's new
I’m so glad you brought up the fact of counter clockwise for the Hoya…🤓. I needed that reminder!
I always need to remind myself TBH

I love these types of videos. Thank you Claire! ❤🌿
thank you for pointing out what to look for to avoid “poached” plants. i would never want to contribute to the destruction of the beautiful rainforests.
from what i understand, not all plants collected from naure are technically poached.
while poaching indicates illegality, there are many places where it’s legal to harvest certain species from their natural habitat.

I agree about all white pots. I have light beige walls and the green plants really stand out and the white pots don’t distract from the plants.

Claire, what's the plant behind you while you were potting, in the basket?
RIP The Rug *Sniff!*
love your videos, your are just so nice to listen to and I like your stile (video and also interior/personal), also Ross is a fun addition, nice so see him pop in ever now and then.
wow that fridek with the greenish-white leaf has such a big leaf, is that it´s first one? All my alocatia babys start with tiny leaves. But the colour is really fun, reminds me of a minth variegation, I´m very curious to see how the next leaves will look. I also have 2 babay fridek right now, one is completely white (3 tiny pure white leaves so far) guess it won´t make it but I keep it until it dies or grows some green. The other one is alternating white and nicely variegated leafers (4th leaf comming in right now), so there is hope it will be ok.
Hi Claire could you share where you got your wire shelves from please i could use these to rearrange my plants like you. If you could share a link please x
I love these videos like this. 💚😊
HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOI THANK GOD THERE'S A VIDEO SO I CAN HAVE LUNCH WHILE WATCHING
Cut the long anthurium stem jnto several sections so you can start several new plants
A comment for the engagement ❤️❤️❤️
My regale also came from a private local seller as a massive chonk, I'm wondering if they just get a really thick base?
Well done 😊
I was able to propagate my Hope by using seed starter pods in a cupcake container. I didn’t cut the leaves in half, I believe I just stuck the cut part of the leaf into the peat moss pod. 🤷♀️
That sounds like a great way of doing it! Did you do it by leaf cuttings?
@@TheJungleHaven yes, just the whole leaf, not cut in half. I just stuck the the leaf in the soaked pod and kept it wet in a sunny place.
The roots were really good! Now I have a full beautiful plant that is taking off.
Love your channel
I have a var Frydek in fluval and it is busting out of it's cache pot! It already has roots down into the reservoir. What do you recommend?? I don't have any larger pots and as soon as I pot it up larger the roots just explode again! Do I just let it be cramped? It is actually bending the plastic. Thank you!
Ross in the monstera tank! ❤
Also, I’ve seen Charmaine (@unplantparenthood) grow anthurium back from chonks many times! And the regale chonk I’m sure you can even cut it into a few sections since, it looks like there’s roots from multiple points down the stem! I’d say it’s worth a shot regardless! ❤
I got a Pallidiflorum from Eastern Tropicals a couple of months ago and my reaction was legit the exact same as yours 😂
I don't blame you! I'm totally chuffed with mine yayyyyyyy
Enjoyed this type of video, new to your channel. But think I will be staying ❤
Haha love unexpected videos!!
Why don’t u shift ur sofa towards the window a little bit-turn the shelves nearest the kitchen a quarter & actually block the walkway off creating a plant corner!! Then you can keep the Dubia facing the window……I’m only 15 mins in so I don’t know how you settled yet x
I will 100% try this (I need to fill the bottom shelf more cause Joli shoved her way through the lower shelf before 😂)
I think that's a great idea!
@@TheJungleHavenmaybe try giving the lowest shelf a backing so she sees it as blocked off 🤔
Tell me about what to help with yellow leaf on plants 😮
If it's just the odd leaf here or there it's likely nothing to worry about and just the life cycle of the plant. If it's dropping lots of leaves, first port of call would be to check the roots and make sure they're healthy IMO
Claire, what temperature do you have next to your windows/balcony door? I have perfect spot for my moss poles, but there's around 15°C at night 😢
Most plants do fine with a slight drop in temperature at night. I'd have thought that area of my home probably drops to a similar level...
@@TheJungleHaven it's just the chonk. It gets bits of fluffy mold in multiple places, some parts are a bit shriveled as well.
i think the monstera dubia looks at high risk of falling down
Yeah it is not secure! I need to do some reinforcing ASAP
Never got a corm to sprout. I need to get my plant game together!
Sooo sad after Brexit (just because, it was easy to get things from and to the UK, from Denmark, before) even “tower” pots is hard to get.
Love your content, it’s always on when I do planty-things. :)
Try just in damp moss in a sealed cup 😉
@@justanotherfaceinthecrowd thanks, I Will try! Desperate by now (not that, that’s desperate, But I’m out of ideas) thanks :)
For me it works like a charm the shallow water method. Had a corm in moss starting to rot, transfered it to a small cup with a bit of water at the bottom and in about 2 days it was pushing roots.
Last I had 5 Corms from one Alocasia. Tried 2 in shallow water, 2 in perlite and 1 in soil. Non worked. Maybe need to up my light game :)
@@joscreen3252when I tried that, the corms got mushy. I put them in a closed pot with spag and I have my fingers crossed
It's not a flipped image. Imagine you're standing above the thing you're winding it round and looking down on it like a clock face
You can also think about opening a bottle of soda.
@@TheJungleHaven so it's counter clockwise from the human perspective, not the plant?
P.S. just found your "sizing up a Dubia" video so that's next on my list 😅😊
Im actually melting right now oh my god
