In early 2000 I watched two kids get into a fist fight over whether or not a togetic could evolve into a Lugia by some yet undiscovered method. The poke myths were a huge part of early Pokemon's success.

Working my way through the video, just wanted to say that for the psychic type weaknesses, they actually do make a lot of sense if you think about psychic representing the mind, which is "weak" to fears like ghosts, bugs, and the dark

I woukd definitely argue that psychics weaknes wasn't just random, it fits the theme that psychic is typically related to mental and bugs are typically fears and affect people mental state, it just doesn't help that bugs were wack in the first gen

11:39 I've heard that the reason psychic is weak to bug is because psychic represents the mind, and bugs represent a fear we have (as well as dark and ghost btw).
Who knows, maybe it's just a way to remember it but it makes a lot of sense to me.
That makes no logical sense whatsoever.
Humans do not have an inherent fear of bugs. Children literally play with them in the dirt.
Furthermore, burning, freezing, drowning, heights, poisons, etc are all fears "we" have, too.
For that matter, might as well just include every human being and every qualifier, since we're pretending that "we" is this one blanket entity with one set of traits.

Absol became my #1 favorite Pokemon of all time. My first reaction stumbling upon it as a kid while playing Ruby when it first came out had me thinking I was looking at a psuedo legendary. Like my jaw literally dropped when seeing the design of that thing let me tell you man. I will never forget those times back in the day and still to this day no other Pokemon has come CLOSE to beating it in terms of design for me. It's just so damn cool! And knowing its story about it being misunderstood while actually being a docile Pokemon just adds to it so much. Not to mention with the whole background of it representing duality or Yin and Yang.
The moment you spoke about it have that majestic yet also foreboding feel/vibe to its design, I knew right there you understood exactly the appeal of this Pokemon. And like you, it also got me to be Dark Pokemon enjoyer, though before Absol my last favorite was Umbreon which was also Dark. So in the long run, I always had gravitated to Dark types.😆
I love this Pokemon so much while my other favorites being Meowscarada and Lucario. I'm so excited of Absol making a return in Legends ZA given it has a Mega Evolution, so it's gonna be so flippin' amazing to see it in that kind of gameplay style! I can't freaking wait man! 😆

Psychic isn’t weak to Bug because it needed a weakness. It’s weak to Bug, Dark and Ghost because it’s the 3 basic human fears.

Castform absolutely did not get a Rock Form during Sandstorm. It got nothing. Dunno where ya got that misinformation from.
Regarding Gen 1: the Charmander start is not as difficult as it’s portrayed. Charmander zips through Viridian Forest and OHKOs all the bug types. It’s not hard to have a level 13-15 Charmander with minimal grinding. As long as your Charmander is faster than his Onix, it’s an easy win. Ember does good damage due to the low special stat of Onix and Geodude. Growl when it uses Bide. It’s honestly easy

I mean you dont have to, but as a new comer to the series (i started kh1 about a month or so ago) playing the game and the coming back to see a video on said game has been a blast, i love your videos. Im up to fragmentary passage now, just missing the movie, kh3, melody of memory and the cutscenes for the mobile games.
