    Projection mapping is something everyone wants to get involved in but it can be expensive to get a hold of projectors. We've all seen those sketchy looking cheap projectors boasting amazing specs. Well we took the plunge and picked one up! Elburz talks about his experience with a $70 projector, how he used it for projection mapping, and who it could be useful for. You might be surprised that it's actually not too terrible!
    Our strategies for making projection mapping less terrifying: interactiveimmersive.io/blog/...

    Gawd I love youtube. Find any topic and I can nerd out for hours with some pro at the top of his game. In camera effects are all the rage now in film and we are seeing a lot of LED walls and virtual stages being used. Haven't seen much integration of projection mapping yet but I expect to see more in the future possibly linked up with Unreal engine to give full tracking and movement of projected effects.

      Hey thanks for watching! It's very exciting to see how things are changing as this technology becomes more accessible, I bet we're not far off from those kinds of possibilities!

      Thanks for watching :) I've always been curious and I was pretty surprised how well it did for $70. Definitely a fantastic learning tool.

    This is great! Do you have a recommendation on an actual 1080p projector that is at a good beginner price point?

      I always say to look for sales and stick to known brands. So if you can find a sale on a BenQ, Optoma, or Viewsonic, you'll likely to get a solid projector. It's hard to offer just a single model because there are so many different use cases for projectors. I'd say if you find a sale you can check a review of the unit and lookup it's specifications on projectorcentral.com to see how that unit is reviewed.

    I've always wanted to find one that is cheap and with 4 corners function so that we can stack them. That would be sweet

    • @TheInteractiveImmersiveHQ
      @TheInteractiveImmersiveHQ  3 роки тому

      These are definitely cheap although they don't have anything near a useful keystone, but if you don't mind doing the keystoning on software side you might be able to stack them.

    I think if you are getting a $70 unit to learn an experiment, the first I woud do is to open up and modify it like changing the fans for better heat performance and 3d print some nuts for mounting rigs

    • @TheInteractiveImmersiveHQ
      @TheInteractiveImmersiveHQ  3 роки тому

      That's a great idea! These would be great projectors to experiment with if you're looking to mod projectors. There were some old mods you could do on DLP projectors I believe where you remove the colour wheel and use the full brightness of the projector but only in monochrome. That'd be fun to try on cheap projectors.
