Yep! Also bring back 2D animation! I am SICK of Disney constantly reusing Tangled’s artstyle and flat out refusing to change it for something else. I didn’t mind it up until Moana, and arguably Encanto did really great with Tangled’s style. But I am tired of the movies looking like you could easily put Rapunzel and Flynn or Elsa and Anna in it as part of the actual story and no one would be bothered by it because the world is designed to coexist with other movies. The Mickey Mouse short with the cameo including underrated movies was waay better because they kept true to each movie’s artstyle instead of trying to redesign all of them to make them more cohesive, similar to the Disney Princesses in the Wreck it Ralph sequel. I adore the scene, BUT I DESPISED they forcibly changed certain characters’ designs to make them fit the more cartoony style of Wreck It Ralph, especially Pocahontas, Cinderella and Jasmine

The Villain is the good guy, he is right though: It's his magic and at the end of the day some wishes should not be granted since some of them are downright evil or terrifying and will endanger his kingdom.
And some of these people don't need wishes granted, they just need to learn and practice instead and they will be able to make their own wishes come true with hard work. And the Grandfather's wish is so bland and just very undefined that you can't grant that wish,' I want to inspire the young' yeah okay, inspire them how or to do what? It is never stated, inspire them to overthrow the Kingdom maybe?
The King has to grant wishes which will benefit the Kingdom, the Kingdom he made and people live peacefully and safely in as well, he don't even charge them rent.

@@melodyscorpion6606 Speaking of right leaning and tradition, here is an excerpt from a US Public Law that was put in place in 1991 during the George "1000 Points of Light, a New World Order" Bush Sr administration. In it are the Jewish Noah Laws which are endorsed by the Vatican/Roman Catholic Church and Orthodox Jews, the two religions which dominate the US Supreme Court.
Also, just before the "election" in 2020, Israel National News declared Trump to be the "Greatest Supporter of Noah Laws in US History", urging Americans to vote for him as a means to fight back against Liberal Marxist ideologies and the erosion of our traditional morals and values, specifically citing homosexual marriage and abortion.
These Noah Laws will be enforced when Trump returns to the White House, as dictated by the Vatican (Sleepy Catholic Joe is just a Useful Idiot whose purpose is to help us turn against Democrats/Liberals, which is why he "won" the election).
What we see in politics and media is a mix of reverse psychology and Hegelian Dialectic. They created a woke (Marxist) problem, the population reacts to that problem (against it, as intended), and then Conservatives offer the solution to the problem---A revolutionary change of power in which Liberals are removed from positions of power, authority and influence.
Whereas *Congress recognizes the historical tradition of ethical values and principles which are the basis of civilized society and upon which our, great Nation was founded;*
Whereas *these ethical values and principles have been the bedrock of society from the dawn of civilization, when they were known as the Seven No-hide Laws;*
Whereas without these ethical values and principles the edifice of civilization stands in serious peril of returning to chaos; Whereas society is profoundly concerned with the recent weakening of these principles that has resulted in crises that beleaguer and threaten the fabric of civilized society; *Whereas the justified preoccupation with these crises must not let the citizens of this Nation lose sight of their responsibility to transmit these historical ethical values from our distinguished past to the generations of the future;*
Whereas the Lubavitch movement has fostered and promoted these ethical values and principles throughout the world; Whereas Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, leader of the Lubavitch movement, is universally respected and revered and his eighty-ninth birthday falls on March 26, 1991: Whereas in tribute to this great spiritual leader, “the rebbe”, this, his ninetieth year will be seen as one of “education and giving”, the year in which we turn to education and charity to *return the world to the moral and ethical values contained in the Seven N-ahide Laws:*
What is the “7 Mountains Mandate” (Dominionism/Dominion Theology)? Supposedly there are 7 “mountains” of global society-Arts and Entertainment, Education, Economy, Family, Government and Military, Media and Religion. (Note: The US voting machines are called “Dominion”.) According to this false teaching, by conquering these 7 “mountains”, the Kingdom of God will be established.
---This is the revolutionary change of power that has been planned for decades.
The following is a partial listing of the Noa-ide Laws as derived from the Babylonian Talmud. *Three of these Laws require the death penalty by beheading/guillotine when broken:* Blasphemy, Idolatry and Sexual Immorality. (Note: Unlike in the Old and New Testament teaching “By the mouth of two or more witnesses..”, these Laws only require one accuser for the accused to be brought to the courts and condemned. This is cancel culture taken to the next level.)
      Idolatry:
      Must worship God alone.
Must not worship any man (ie: Jesus) as God.
No idols or statues. Do not bow to idols or statues. Do not offer sacrifices to idols or statues.
      Blasphemy:
      Do not curse God.
Do not use God's name in vain.
Worship the true God alone, do not worship false gods. (Worshiping Jesus is also seen as blasphemy.)
      Murder:
Against murdering anyone, self defense is permitted.
*Mass murderers will be given the death penalty. (Abortion is classified as mass murder.)*
      Theft--Do not:
      Steal.
      Rob.
Overcharge -Have you noticed how many of today’s large corporations seem to be pushing the “progressive” message about “fairness, PRIDE, tolerance, inclusion, diversity, equity” while also overcharging for their products? And how many of these corporations are known to overwork and underpay their workers, reaping huge profits for themselves as they commit wage theft?
      Kidnap.
Move a landmark. (Probably not good for BLM/Antifa activists who tear down historical landmarks.)
Do not use false weights and measurements.
Do not covet. (I would think this applies to Socialists who believe they should receive the benefits of other people's work.)
      Sexual Immorality--*No:*
      Bestiality
      Incest
      *Homosexuality*
Barack Obama was “controlled opposition”, a descendant of King John and Charlemagne, as have been all of the US's "elected" Presidents. The homosexuals have been promised increased rights and privileges, tolerance and inclusion, thinking they are being “normalized” in our society. They have been manipulated into exposing themselves publicly for elimination. The Government now has marriage records, phone and text records (Patriot Act) and online records (Earn It bill) which will be used against them.
      Prevention of animal cruelty.
Do not eat an animal while it is still alive.
Do not eat flesh of animal torn apart by a wild animal
      *Justice Law - Against*
      Bribery
*Favoritism* -Although called the “Equal Opportunity Act”, what we have seen are people being hired or promoted not for their talents, skills and education, but based on the color of their skin, gender and sexual orientation (even if they are not qualified for the job or promotion), otherwise known as “intersectionality”. Is this “equality”, or favoritism?
      Condemning the innocent
      Must administer the death penalty
*Treat people equally before the law* ---Isn't this what these Activists wanted? They want equality, they will get it. No longer will being able to check multiple intersectionality point boxes give a person any special entitlements, privileges.

You know what's ironic about the art style? Disney have actually done this 2D/3D mix before, and gotten it to work, in Treasure Planet - which is why, along with just being a great movie, it's now a cult classic.
However, considering how much that cost to make, Disney actively decided to sabotage the movie (with poor marketing and putting it out at the same time as one of the biggest box office movies of the decade at the time - Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets), so that they wouldn't have to make a sequel.
The fact that they tried to use the same kind of animation to create the movie meant to mark their 100th anniversary celebration - a movie they actively wanted to succeed - and not only did it not succeed, but they screwed up the animation techniques they refused to use and refine, is nothing short of karma as far as I'm concerned.

Hans' heel turn, in retrospect, makes zero sense. His plan to rule Arendelle would have never worked, as he was never heir to the throne. Simply marrying the heiress wouldn't have worked. If Ana passed away, any power he may have had, passes with her. You would think a Prince would know this?
Plus, he seemed genuinely infatuated with Ana at the start of the film. In fact, he gave a genuine smile of affection when no one else could see him. Secondly, if it was his plan all along to get rid of Elsa, then why didn't he eliminate her when she was attacking his men and threatening their lives? Heck, he even prevented an attempt on her life from succeeding when he stopped one of the Duke's men from hitting her with a crossbow.
Still enjoyed Frozen, despite the obvious issues. Thoughts?

When you mentioned how simplistic and achieveable through practice and hard work majority of the wishes were, it immediately brought me back to (spoilers) Puss in Boots: Last Wish -
Puss didn't want die after squandering 8 of his 9 lives. Kitty wanted someone to trust. Goldie wanted a family. THOSE wishes hit hard because the characters themselves were so jaded and cynical to the point that the star itself is their last hope of getting something seemingly unattainable in their real lives, and the payoff of what they had gained at the end rounds everything up.
Wish's wishes were just so bland! It sounded like what children would write down and wish for because they'd want immediate results instead of taking the long route and perfecting whatever skill they want to be good at! The grandpa wanting to inspire people through music? He can still move his fingers, why can't he just do that already? The dressmaker? Does she have any pre-existing skills for it? The "friend" who wanted to be a knight? Why didn't he just work for it??
This is Disney's 100th year, celebrating the wishing star...and a Dreamworks sequel to an existing franchise pulled it off better than this original story....just how can you fumble the bag THAT BADLY?

  • @duffertonshire
    @duffertonshire 6 місяців тому +18

I thought of a plot in about 5 min which at least to me seems better than the actual Wish's plot. The king in order to grant wishes has to drain the power of some people's wishes in order to grant others, so that's why he collects all and only grants some. He grants the simple wishes and then uses the leftover power for himself, giving him whatever he desires and as no one remembers the wishes once they give them to the king this scam can continue. With the king's end goal being something like bringing his wife back from the dead or gaining a heir to the throne or just having power, you know bad guy stuff.
So then the main character (or maybe a group of 2 to 3 for the extra merchandising opportunities as money) starts to think something is up as she has never gone to send a wish off to the king so she starts to put the pieces together that only the more simple wishes are being granted and this starts off the conflict. With the end goal being returning everyone's wishes or granting them with the power of the stars, haven't really thought that far ahead as this was just a nothing idea I had thrown together to put into a UA-cam comment.

Another plot idea. The king uses his own magic so the scale and number of wishes he can grant are limited. Asha wants to do more but she needs an outside power source. Going on a quest to acquire the power of a star, Asha casually grants wishes only to see that a vague or poorly worded wish can backfire. This teaches her the lesson that just because she can grant a wish doesn't always mean she should. When she finally reaches the star she can become the Blue Fairy and grant wishes without limit, but doing so requires giving up her old life. To fulfill her own wish she has to leave behind her family and friends forever.
This would tie into the original concept of the film, provide even more opportunities for references to old movies, and have multiple valuable lessons for kids. The only downside is that there isn't really a central villain, but that's not really any worse than the villain this movie got.

The second movie of the Sumikko Gurashi franchise works on a very similar premise (of people not being "whole" without their wishes) and yet it is executed far more gracefully than this sad excuse of a film despite being essentially a kid's show where the only plot is cute animals doing cute things. The main cast when deprived of the memories of their wishes (by a well-meaning but inexperienced wizard), although no longer longing for something they cannot have, become flat and uninteresting characters. Seeing his friends lose their goals in life saddens Tokage, the only member in the main cast that hasn't forgotten what his wish is because he never tells the wizard about it; this prompts Tokage's attempt to remind them of what they once wanted, and the first friends to regain their identities, use their unique skills (such as painting and persuasion) to contribute to the saving of their other mutual friends. In reward of his care for his friends, near the end of the movie Tokage is granted a limited version of his wish: to reunite with his mother, even if only for 10 minutes. Despite this, Tokage thinks of it as a cherished memory that is more than enough to warm his heart through the rest of his life.

I think the removing people's memories of their wishes to 'spare them the pain' part is bullshit, but like... Everyone involved is consenting to it. He doesn't trick people, he doesn't force them, having the wishes doesn't fuel his power (until after he's been corrupted), he's up-front and honest that giving him your wish will make you forget it and he decides if it's worth granting or not. Hell, when the main character tries to tell her grandfather about his wish, he straight up tells her that he doesn't want to know and agrees with the king's logic of not wanting to know about a wish that'll never be granted, only for her to say she's gonna steal his wish and give it back to him anyway.

      Side bar comment.
But this isn't the first Disney Movie where the "good guys" were actually the villains.
Take End Game as an example. All I ask is that you think it through. It was the wrong thing for all the right reasons.
So five years have past. People have moved on with their lives. Businesses have collapsed. House market is gone. Food production and services have shrunk due to 1/2 the human population instantly gone.
Then they magically reappear. The world is instantly thrown in famine as the world food production was decreased. People no longer have jobs. Their homes are gone. Their spouses likely remarried and started new lives. Kids were born. Family members passed on. You been declared dead so all your personal possession and financial accounts are gone.
In short, you have nothing. And then there is the chance you would instantly die when you were brought back. Imagine you disappeared on a plane and then came back ... with no plane. People falling from the sky.
That was one of my first things I noticed in this movie. Five years was too long. Bringing people back caused more problems than it solved. A better approach was to show that only days or a few weeks had passed. The world is still struggling with the concept of half the animal population on a planet disappearing instantly. You could bring people back and the impact of their return would be minimized.

I have no intention of wasting money watching this movie - but from what I've seen (via clips) and movie reviews, I'm convinced that the real villains of this movie was Asha and the Queen; seeing as it was both of their respective actions that caused Magnifico to be corrupted in the first place.

If anything this movie made me appreciate more Puss in Boots The Last Wish. Because it was basically the same but done better.
There you have your true evil villain. There you have reality-warping wishes instead of just material goods. Could this king grant his 8 lost lifes to Puss?
And there the wishes are way more varied instead of "I need thing" and the magic is basically limitless which is why the travel to the destiny is more important than the destiny itself.

From the story, i think the king is the good guy. some of those wishes are impossible or too vague. Wishing to 'inspire' people is something you cannot predict the consequences of. At the very least, for dress lady, those scissors are magic, i think, so presumably, they make her better at it, but she still needs to actually work at it.
The king also built the kingdom from scratch, if people don't like the terms, they can leave, but they don't. The wish thing is the only 'negative' they have.

    • @redrackham6812
      @redrackham6812 6 місяців тому +1

I accounted for that, yes. Studios don't generally publish films' marketing budgets, but the general rule of thumb is that they are approximately half that of the production budget. So the total cost would have been about $300 million. Studios also negotiate different deals with movie theaters about how to split the box-office revenues, although the general rule of thumb is that between fifty to seventy percent goes to the studio. Foreign theaters tend to get a better deal than domestic theaters, and the theater's percentage usually rises over time. Consequently, a ticket sold here is worth more to the studio than one sold abroad, and one sold on opening is worth more than one sold a month or two later. But given that Disney, even now, has a lot of leverage with the theaters, we can probably assume a high percentage for Disney, so probably close to seventy percent. $300 million is about seventy percent of $430. That's how I arrived at the "over $400 million" figure quoted above. The general rule of thumb is often stated that a film needs to earn twice its production budget to break even at the box office. Of course, that is making the most favorable assumptions: only fifty percent of the production budget spent on marketing, and the studio getting seventy percent of the box office. If the studio spends more on marketing or gets a smaller cut of the box office, the situation begins to look worse for the studio. @@hellopumpkin86

Maybe I’m being too lenient on it, and honestly seeing all the concept art and cut ideas they had such as making the Star a human male like character (which was hinted to be the romance they cut) or making the Queen also evil alongside the King giving us an evil power couple, I do wish they capitalized on those instead.
I personally don’t think the story not having romance makes it bad by default but I won’t put it past Disney to make Asha a lesbian, so who knows.

We were robbed. What would’ve worked more was if the king and queen were both evil and Asha was their daughter. Then Asha would’ve grown up thinking that keeping the wishes was the right thing and star boy had to help show her the right way. Also it would add a lot more to Asha’s character by standing against her parents since for all the other Disney princesses with evil parents they’re always stepparents (Lady Tremaine, Evil Queen, and Gothel). So the fact that a princesses actual parents are evil would’ve been so cool.
I get wanting villains that are evil just to be evil back but Magnifico being a sympathetic villain would make more sense. Like due to a traumatic event he is now so obsessed with keeping everyone safe.
Also I wouldn't make Asha quirky I mean she can definitely have somethings but not as much as they did. I would make her more similar to Elsa and Mulan personality rather than Anna and Rapunzel.
I would also change Asha's color palette purple reminds me too much of Rapunzel and Isabella. I wish they stuck with the orange red color palette from the concept art
They should've shown the effects of people forgetting their wishes like have everyone feel miserable and empty in a way
Also it’s funny how they scrapped star boy but kept the obvious love song in the movie. The demo for At All Cost even has the words love you but they changed it to promise in the movie.

The movie would have looked so much better if it was fully 2d animated. Of course Disney won’t bring back that style since they refuse to actually put effort into their movies now. This movie had a 200 million dollar budget yet this is how it turns out? Just pathetic. The king is a character that really would have worked better in a 2d film. In the original concept art the king and queen are an evil power couple with a cat. Asha was originally going to be his daughter, and the star was going to be like a Peter Pan type character who was Asha’s love interest. At this point Disney is dead and we really need a new animation studio to make 2d fairytale films. Why does Disney hate romance in their movies now??

Wish really is a Disney Tumblr movie through a through and not simply because of thee check boxes but because of the overall story structure. I was on Tumblr before the exodus and I can tell you that shit like references and connected universes were INSANLEY popular on the site, especially with the Disneyheads. They always wanted to 'connect' films together and make villains sympathetic or himbos for their own pleasure but in terms of story, they couldn't do anything because their own personal philosophies more or less told them traditional storytelling was off-limits due to being problematic and inventing new stories was near impossible because the 'rules' they set up to make shit 'not problematic' took any sort of real imagination away to replace with 'representative realism' which is all over the movie.
The character designs, the portrayal of the antagonist and hero, the overall message? It's all Tumblr but once you remember that Tumblr is mostly made by older adult and women who have horrific personality and social skills with the rest of the world that they hate and believe should worship them, don't be surprised that the movie came out this way. It may as very well be a Tumblr movie because they hired Tumblr people to work on it. It's been long enough and they're old enough for the positions so....there ya go.
