2:46 actually, the USB C ports on these and other Nokia from the .1 lineup were faulty and you’d rip them apart, even if you used your phone normally. My Nokia 7.1 also had the issue, it was acknowledged by Nokia and covered under warranty.
I used to work in a nokia service centre. Nokia 7 plus is by far the hardest phone to disassemble. The original, out of the box adhesive is very very very strong. Most new technician will accidentally damage the display by prying a little bit too deep and damaging the panel internally. And yeah, it is not a good device. I hate it to this day.
Phones and tablets are so tough to repair with all those tiny screws and cables, but you always do a great job, Hugh! You could also feasibly use a plastic pick to remove excess glue, if the pick was soft enough of course!
Those are damn solid devices. I have its smaller cousin the 6.1, which I replaced the battery last summer. They might not have fiery performance, but they are tools that you can rely upon. I'm not gentle with my phones, but it's three years of ownership, and the device still performs like first. Edit: Going on the 5th year of ownership, on its 3rd battery, and still going strong.
This coming from someone who has deal with this kind of butcher on a weekly basis, Nokia screens are not fun to remove, however can be done reliably with practice, and be careful when cleaning the tape on those screens, when removing the tape or glue it can pull the adheasive that holds the backlight to the lcd, not fun, and also get some Tesa tape from if ifixit, it is the best tape for cell phone repairs, I’ve used that tape you had there and in my experience it can be too thick for certain repairs, aswell as not hold as well as Tessa tape, fun fact, iPads are taped down with the stuff, also, thank you for sharing this kind of information to the public, I manage a repair centre and it’s always so fun to see someone else’s take with things like this
Hey Hugh, I have a challenge for you. Take an iphone that's badly damaged, and try to make It fully functional by spending as little money as possible. Get an old, used display that could be cracked, reuse the battery, try to fix a Bent frame. I think it would be a fun challenge!
Everyone is criticizing an Apple for "anti-repair" design, but some Android phones has more anti-repair design like this Nokia, where the screen is sticked with an adhesive to a phone frame.
Just a tip. When applying liquid glue, apply it on both surfaces that will be in contact and wait 2 or 3 minutes before gluing them together. You'll see that the bond is much stronger and almost instantaneous.
Without witch hunting a shady repair shop like this, sometimes I wonder if the person who did this really crap job will ever see this specific video essentially calling them out. It's just something you'll never know.
Isn’t it disgusting when you pay for service and you get this crap. I’m so happy I’m not this type of person. If it’s worth doing , it’s worth doing it well ! I like to adhere to this philosophy. Great job Hugh.

Me watching this video on my Nokia 7+😂. As a user since 4.5 years I can confidently that this phone never let me down in terms of performance till this date👌
This experience hits so close to home for me. My charging port died last summer, and I asked a local shop for a quote for replacement. They quoted me for 30 bucks if repair was to succeed or no charge if the screen cracks during removal ( obviously ). Went ahead and took the phone in as if it works out at least I can resell it. Two days later I got it back, charges superbly.. but the screen is messed up with huge patches of dead pixels. It did not break but the heat needed and the prying they did surely killed it. They offered that they can replace the screen however the original parts cost half the resale value, I could confirm this myself. Chinese LCD seem to be more miss than hit for this model. So now I have a shoddy repaired phone that I cannot use or sell besides for repairs. I would love it to have it fixed but giving the same shop more money is just... If only my screen was mounted back this bad I could maybe fix it, but its glued on really well :)) as opposed to Hugh's example
I have had a few phones where i have had to use liquid adhesive and found the best thing after the screen is in place is to put it on a flat surface , piece of kitchen cloth on the screen and then several heavy books to keep it pressed down
Fantastic walk-through, as ever. 👍🏽👍🏽 (When looking at the charging port, you say, '...resurrect said issue' - now, as a fellow writer, I knew you meant something else, & it was frustratingly at the tip-of-my-tongue for a few seconds, & then it came - 'rectify'!)
Almost the same story here. Charging port gave in and the first repair guy ruined the anodized copper finish on the sides. The second repair guy thankfully did a better job.
I have two of these with faulty charging ports. I'm just too scared to take them in and end up with a hack job like we saw at the start. Great phone besides this latent defect.
Lambton did a really poor job on this. I can see why that person got their phone repaired from there, it has a positive score in Google's recommendations. They just searched for the best phone repair shop in the area and this popped up. The slogan on their logo is also quite interesting "No Fix, No Fee."
Lambton phone and repair, not far from me and as far as word of mouth they don't have a good reputation for any repairs, same as the Mac fix repair in Cardiff is a rip-off, it's actually cheaper to take your device to Apple to be repaired.
@@bazley82 one has to do proper research when buying a device or getting a device repaired. Google recommendations should be taken with a grain of salt as it can be easily manipulated.
I've repaired quite a few Nokia 7 Pluses. I find the display quite hard to get out in one piece, despite using heat (I have a heating pad) and being careful, using plastic cards and picks etc. It seems to be pretty fragile, and the original adhesive pretty strong. Maybe that's just me! The charging port does fail regularly on these, and aftermarket ports should be tested thoroughly before fitting - I bought a cheap one which didn't have all the components on it for cellular reception (antenna is in this array as well, as far as I could determine). Another great video, Hugh. Keep up the good work!
I had the exact same problem with Nokia's service. The Nokia 6 that my mother was using had a faulty 3.5 mm Jack. Took it to the service center. Got an estimate of 1 week. The phone was not ready after a week. After constantly following up with the center and Nokia reps, got the phone back after a month. When I got it back, the screen was messed up, it was not good properly, for was leaking out. In All corners of the screen , touch was not working. Went back to service center and they refused to take the phone back. Thankfully, I knew someone higher up in Nokia. Connected them, they got my phone replaced the next day. Then i proceeded to get the service center closed. Because I found out many other people with similar experiences and they all got harassed.
Now THAT is the worst repair job I've seen. I hope the poor individual was properly compensated. On the other hand, the Nokia 7 Plus is one of my all time favourite phones. It's nice to see it get the props it deserves. Great video, Hugh!

A small screw can blow up the whole phone & a small water drop can change the whole mother board in a laptop. A repair man told me that needs to change the whole board instead of one small core ic I spend so much money on it.
we can't find professionals like you bro. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Wish there was more honest repair people out there like Hugh Jeffrey. Phone looks great too if I may say so.😎😎
I would love to see you repair more HMD/Nokia devices as they are solid mid range phones. I would rather send my phone to be repaired by someone like Hugh as he knows that it's the little details that make all the difference.
I still have bad memories of a repair shop near college NOT repairing the wireless functionality on my PSP 1000! I dropped the PSP and I got the stuck WLAN switch problem. The wireless functionality did still work, but after I got it "fixed", the switch could click into place again, but wireless functionality no longer worked and the charging port also didn't work anymore! I took it back, they got the charging port working again but wireless STILL wasn't restored! I took it back again and again, wireless STILL NOT FIXED! In the end, my parents got me a 3000 model PSP.
2:46 actually, the USB C ports on these and other Nokia from the .1 lineup were faulty and you’d rip them apart, even if you used your phone normally. My Nokia 7.1 also had the issue, it was acknowledged by Nokia and covered under warranty.
They fixed that in later batches.
I was cringing throughout the whole disassembly from the awfully botched repair. Good to see the phone finally got some love with a proper repair.
Hi Hugh! Huge fan of your repair videos! Hope that your store can ship to the Philippines very soon. 🙏🏻
What the heck is this repair! Like the repair was done by a kid. Thankfully we have Hugh to save the day.
Phones and tablets are so tough to repair with all those tiny screws and cables, but you always do a great job, Hugh!
You could also feasibly use a plastic pick to remove excess glue, if the pick was soft enough of course!
Wow, really nice work and kudos for your ability to do some fine detail mods like that!
Just seeing how bad the previous repair makes my eyes hurts; it's ridiculously awful. Very nice job again, Hugh!!!
Excellent job as always and hell yeah the copper/black looks amazing!
This was mind boggling. I've seen 8 year olds who could do a better job of repairs, my great nephew for one. Thanks for another great video Hugh.
This phone is one of my all time favorites in terms of how it looks
Those are damn solid devices. I have its smaller cousin the 6.1, which I replaced the battery last summer. They might not have fiery performance, but they are tools that you can rely upon. I'm not gentle with my phones, but it's three years of ownership, and the device still performs like first.
Edit: Going on the 5th year of ownership, on its 3rd battery, and still going strong.
I love your Videos Hugh! 👍
Thanks mate!
This coming from someone who has deal with this kind of butcher on a weekly basis, Nokia screens are not fun to remove, however can be done reliably with practice, and be careful when cleaning the tape on those screens, when removing the tape or glue it can pull the adheasive that holds the backlight to the lcd, not fun, and also get some Tesa tape from if ifixit, it is the best tape for cell phone repairs, I’ve used that tape you had there and in my experience it can be too thick for certain repairs, aswell as not hold as well as Tessa tape, fun fact, iPads are taped down with the stuff, also, thank you for sharing this kind of information to the public, I manage a repair centre and it’s always so fun to see someone else’s take with things like this
No _one_ person could ever be that incompetent. This was a team effort.
What an amazing job !
Much love from Egypt Hugh ♥️
I love this phone is so beautiful I wish more companies do this color too
Hey Hugh, I have a challenge for you. Take an iphone that's badly damaged, and try to make It fully functional by spending as little money as possible. Get an old, used display that could be cracked, reuse the battery, try to fix a Bent frame. I think it would be a fun challenge!
Back after some time ... love u jeff
Everyone is criticizing an Apple for "anti-repair" design, but some Android phones has more anti-repair design like this Nokia, where the screen is sticked with an adhesive to a phone frame.
is that a good thing or a bad thing?
I have been to the same shop and they also botched a siblings phone repair, faulty screen, overheating battery and low battery health.
Who knows, maybe they will.
Bold of you to assume they have the self-respect to learn from others
@@Zulf85 they only have respect for money.
Isn’t it disgusting when you pay for service and you get this crap. I’m so happy I’m not this type of person. If it’s worth doing , it’s worth doing it well ! I like to adhere to this philosophy. Great job Hugh.
01:20 that says "Lambton Phones & Repairs", doesn't it?
Passion is the key to good job.
Ive seen some bad repair shop damaged devices but wow this was bad i cant believe repair shops get away with this and its scary to think there are many out there that eill do this but you shure did a great job repairing the device keep up the amazing work
This is why you find trusted people
Had this phones years ago, i wish nokia would still make phones in this style and form factor. I loved the copper accents on the black.
I have a Nokia 3.1 in the colours of blue and copper, they go together really well.
Can't believe I stayed up till 1:05am just for this.
It’s a good video wdym
Are you from romania?
@@DjGabuza nah bet he’s south african
I meant I could have been asleep right now but I choose to wait for him to upload. I agree, it is a good video.
No, African
It’s so fascinating to see hugh fixing mobile phones ☺️
Shop: *We are the best repair shop!*
Hugh: *Hold my beer meanwhile i teach you how repair correctly a phone!*
The way you talk ✅
The clean repair job ✅
The camera move ✅
💯/💯 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Lol
Had a 7 plus for a year and a half. Great phone and great screen! Decent battery too! I bought new for $300 down from $570
Holy crap it’s so nice to hear someone say Nokia correctly.
This is the reason why I watch your vids and repair my phone myself rather than letting it be repaired to some shady dude
Always make my day thanks Hugh
From Nigeria
I have had a few phones where i have had to use liquid adhesive and found the best thing after the screen is in place is to put it on a flat surface , piece of kitchen cloth on the screen and then several heavy books to keep it pressed down
Fantastic walk-through, as ever. 👍🏽👍🏽
(When looking at the charging port, you say, '...resurrect said issue' - now, as a fellow writer, I knew you meant something else, & it was frustratingly at the tip-of-my-tongue for a few seconds, & then it came - 'rectify'!)
Maybe use this video, ifixit, tutorials for other phones etc to help you do it yourself
These phones are trash why would you ever buy Nokia? 😂
@@samholdsworth420 That's nice

I revealed the name for that one. It's Lambton Phones & Repair.
the repairs I used to do for friends in elementary school ended up better than this phone after that shop... pretty outrageous
I'm still using this gem of a phone after almost 4 years, and it hurts to see what that "teChnichian" did to it. Thanks for fixing it :)
I noticed the blank screen in calls when I tested it off camera but after putting the grommet back on the proximity sensor it worked fine.
@@HughJeffreys Thanks for your reply, had edited my comment when I saw you'd found and replaced it!
Clean repair as always Jeff! 🔥
You are always doing an awesome job. keep it up.
We need adhesive strings like a floss roll of adhesive or smt that is small enough for the edges
I love the copper and black color scheme as well.
6:33 not 'resurrected', the word you were looking for is 'rectified'. Not trying to be a dick, loved the vid.
Now THAT is the worst repair job I've seen. I hope the poor individual was properly compensated.
On the other hand, the Nokia 7 Plus is one of my all time favourite phones. It's nice to see it get the props it deserves.
Great video, Hugh!
I have always liked the way this phone looked.
Amazing Video, Hugh!
How hard would it be if this is what I wanted to do as my job?
My guy needs to repair the Nokia 3310 👍👍
Calling that repair botched is actually a compliment
