This coming from someone who has deal with this kind of butcher on a weekly basis, Nokia screens are not fun to remove, however can be done reliably with practice, and be careful when cleaning the tape on those screens, when removing the tape or glue it can pull the adheasive that holds the backlight to the lcd, not fun, and also get some Tesa tape from if ifixit, it is the best tape for cell phone repairs, I’ve used that tape you had there and in my experience it can be too thick for certain repairs, aswell as not hold as well as Tessa tape, fun fact, iPads are taped down with the stuff, also, thank you for sharing this kind of information to the public, I manage a repair centre and it’s always so fun to see someone else’s take with things like this
Fantastic walk-through, as ever. 👍🏽👍🏽 (When looking at the charging port, you say, '...resurrect said issue' - now, as a fellow writer, I knew you meant something else, & it was frustratingly at the tip-of-my-tongue for a few seconds, & then it came - 'rectify'!)
I used to work in a nokia service centre. Nokia 7 plus is by far the hardest phone to disassemble. The original, out of the box adhesive is very very very strong. Most new technician will accidentally damage the display by prying a little bit too deep and damaging the panel internally. And yeah, it is not a good device. I hate it to this day.
When it comes to device repair, it's hard to know who to trust. So far, I'd only trust the manufacturer, Best Buy, or myself. We can put an end to repair scams. It all comes down to using common sense
As a repair technician myself, i feel terrible about your take on the independent repair industry. I don't mean it in a bad way, i just hate how repair shops like this have skewed your perspective. It's not even your fault.
The manufacturer (central repair service contracted by the manufacturer) replaced the screen of a friend's phone under extended warranty, but returned the phone with the flash not working.
I have had a few phones where i have had to use liquid adhesive and found the best thing after the screen is in place is to put it on a flat surface , piece of kitchen cloth on the screen and then several heavy books to keep it pressed down
A small screw can blow up the whole phone & a small water drop can change the whole mother board in a laptop. A repair man told me that needs to change the whole board instead of one small core ic I spend so much money on it. we can't find professionals like you bro. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Hey Hugh, I have a challenge for you. Take an iphone that's badly damaged, and try to make It fully functional by spending as little money as possible. Get an old, used display that could be cracked, reuse the battery, try to fix a Bent frame. I think it would be a fun challenge!
2:46 actually, the USB C ports on these and other Nokia from the .1 lineup were faulty and you’d rip them apart, even if you used your phone normally. My Nokia 7.1 also had the issue, it was acknowledged by Nokia and covered under warranty.
This experience hits so close to home for me. My charging port died last summer, and I asked a local shop for a quote for replacement. They quoted me for 30 bucks if repair was to succeed or no charge if the screen cracks during removal ( obviously ). Went ahead and took the phone in as if it works out at least I can resell it. Two days later I got it back, charges superbly.. but the screen is messed up with huge patches of dead pixels. It did not break but the heat needed and the prying they did surely killed it. They offered that they can replace the screen however the original parts cost half the resale value, I could confirm this myself. Chinese LCD seem to be more miss than hit for this model. So now I have a shoddy repaired phone that I cannot use or sell besides for repairs. I would love it to have it fixed but giving the same shop more money is just... If only my screen was mounted back this bad I could maybe fix it, but its glued on really well :)) as opposed to Hugh's example
I've repaired quite a few Nokia 7 Pluses. I find the display quite hard to get out in one piece, despite using heat (I have a heating pad) and being careful, using plastic cards and picks etc. It seems to be pretty fragile, and the original adhesive pretty strong. Maybe that's just me! The charging port does fail regularly on these, and aftermarket ports should be tested thoroughly before fitting - I bought a cheap one which didn't have all the components on it for cellular reception (antenna is in this array as well, as far as I could determine). Another great video, Hugh. Keep up the good work!
Me watching this video on my Nokia 7+😂. As a user since 4.5 years I can confidently that this phone never let me down in terms of performance till this date👌
Just a tip. When applying liquid glue, apply it on both surfaces that will be in contact and wait 2 or 3 minutes before gluing them together. You'll see that the bond is much stronger and almost instantaneous.
Almost the same story here. Charging port gave in and the first repair guy ruined the anodized copper finish on the sides. The second repair guy thankfully did a better job.
Isn’t it disgusting when you pay for service and you get this crap. I’m so happy I’m not this type of person. If it’s worth doing , it’s worth doing it well ! I like to adhere to this philosophy. Great job Hugh.
Great job as always 👍 Nokia 7 plus was my top 5 phone which I want years ago :) Edit: i like that copper and black combo, too. I remember in 2017-2018 there were leaks that iPhone XS and XS max will be in copper. It was beautiful but they hadn’t release it😮💨😂
Everyone is criticizing an Apple for "anti-repair" design, but some Android phones has more anti-repair design like this Nokia, where the screen is sticked with an adhesive to a phone frame.
I'm commenting on a white 7 plus. Still in love with it - colour, copper accents, size, and especially the haptics of the back panel. Sadly I will have to finally let it go after a port replacement 2 years ago left me with the screen coming loose now, while the battery is close to dead as well. If only I knew how to search for a recent phone (any size and price bracket - as long as specs are accordingly) with a backside that feels exactly the same; smooth, dry, non-slippery perfection that it is. Any suggestions?
I just had a go at pulling mine apart after it sat around for a few years....I think I overheated the screen and managed to crack it trying to pry it open it's not as easy as some of the repair videos make it look. I wish I knew about the suction gadget you mentioned!

Ive seen some bad repair shop damaged devices but wow this was bad i cant believe repair shops get away with this and its scary to think there are many out there that eill do this but you shure did a great job repairing the device keep up the amazing work
Excellent job as always and hell yeah the copper/black looks amazing!
This coming from someone who has deal with this kind of butcher on a weekly basis, Nokia screens are not fun to remove, however can be done reliably with practice, and be careful when cleaning the tape on those screens, when removing the tape or glue it can pull the adheasive that holds the backlight to the lcd, not fun, and also get some Tesa tape from if ifixit, it is the best tape for cell phone repairs, I’ve used that tape you had there and in my experience it can be too thick for certain repairs, aswell as not hold as well as Tessa tape, fun fact, iPads are taped down with the stuff, also, thank you for sharing this kind of information to the public, I manage a repair centre and it’s always so fun to see someone else’s take with things like this
I was cringing throughout the whole disassembly from the awfully botched repair. Good to see the phone finally got some love with a proper repair.
Fantastic walk-through, as ever. 👍🏽👍🏽
(When looking at the charging port, you say, '...resurrect said issue' - now, as a fellow writer, I knew you meant something else, & it was frustratingly at the tip-of-my-tongue for a few seconds, & then it came - 'rectify'!)
What an amazing job !
Much love from Egypt Hugh ♥️
This is why you find trusted people
Just seeing how bad the previous repair makes my eyes hurts; it's ridiculously awful. Very nice job again, Hugh!!!
Back after some time ... love u jeff
Had a 7 plus for a year and a half. Great phone and great screen! Decent battery too! I bought new for $300 down from $570
What the heck is this repair! Like the repair was done by a kid. Thankfully we have Hugh to save the day.
I have been to the same shop and they also botched a siblings phone repair, faulty screen, overheating battery and low battery health.
01:20 that says "Lambton Phones & Repairs", doesn't it?
Always make my day thanks Hugh

Best buy repairs are shit
Best buy repairs are awful.
The manufacturer (central repair service contracted by the manufacturer) replaced the screen of a friend's phone under extended warranty, but returned the phone with the flash not working.
Good thing there’s something called reviews
No _one_ person could ever be that incompetent. This was a team effort.
Had this phones years ago, i wish nokia would still make phones in this style and form factor. I loved the copper accents on the black.
You are always doing an awesome job. keep it up.
They fixed that in later batches.
I have a Nokia 3.1 in the colours of blue and copper, they go together really well.
This was mind boggling. I've seen 8 year olds who could do a better job of repairs, my great nephew for one. Thanks for another great video Hugh.
Holy crap it’s so nice to hear someone say Nokia correctly.
I noticed the blank screen in calls when I tested it off camera but after putting the grommet back on the proximity sensor it worked fine.
@@HughJeffreys Thanks for your reply, had edited my comment when I saw you'd found and replaced it!
Me watching this video on my Nokia 7+😂. As a user since 4.5 years I can confidently that this phone never let me down in terms of performance till this date👌
I love the copper and black color scheme as well.
The way you talk ✅
The clean repair job ✅
The camera move ✅
💯/💯 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Lol
Just a tip. When applying liquid glue, apply it on both surfaces that will be in contact and wait 2 or 3 minutes before gluing them together. You'll see that the bond is much stronger and almost instantaneous.
One of my fav android phone, vanilla android with sturdy and elegant hardware , that’s Nokia 7 plus for you 🔥💥💗
We need adhesive strings like a floss roll of adhesive or smt that is small enough for the edges
Clean repair as always Jeff! 🔥
Can't believe I stayed up till 1:05am just for this.
It’s a good video wdym
Are you from romania?
@@DjGabuza nah bet he’s south african
I meant I could have been asleep right now but I choose to wait for him to upload. I agree, it is a good video.
No, African
It’s so fascinating to see hugh fixing mobile phones ☺️
Almost the same story here. Charging port gave in and the first repair guy ruined the anodized copper finish on the sides. The second repair guy thankfully did a better job.
the repairs I used to do for friends in elementary school ended up better than this phone after that shop... pretty outrageous
This is the reason why I watch your vids and repair my phone myself rather than letting it be repaired to some shady dude
Isn’t it disgusting when you pay for service and you get this crap. I’m so happy I’m not this type of person. If it’s worth doing , it’s worth doing it well ! I like to adhere to this philosophy. Great job Hugh.
Amazing Video, Hugh!
Great job as always 👍 Nokia 7 plus was my top 5 phone which I want years ago :)
Edit: i like that copper and black combo, too. I remember in 2017-2018 there were leaks that iPhone XS and XS max will be in copper. It was beautiful but they hadn’t release it😮💨😂
Shop: *We are the best repair shop!*
Hugh: *Hold my beer meanwhile i teach you how repair correctly a phone!*
I have always liked the way this phone looked.
It's so cool how you modded the microphone grommet
🥰 lovely restoration
Hey Hugh you should buy smartphone adjustable clamps better than rubber band
My guy needs to repair the Nokia 3310 👍👍
Everyone is criticizing an Apple for "anti-repair" design, but some Android phones has more anti-repair design like this Nokia, where the screen is sticked with an adhesive to a phone frame.
is that a good thing or a bad thing?
I'm commenting on a white 7 plus. Still in love with it - colour, copper accents, size, and especially the haptics of the back panel.
Sadly I will have to finally let it go after a port replacement 2 years ago left me with the screen coming loose now, while the battery is close to dead as well.
If only I knew how to search for a recent phone (any size and price bracket - as long as specs are accordingly) with a backside that feels exactly the same; smooth, dry, non-slippery perfection that it is.
Any suggestions?
How hard would it be if this is what I wanted to do as my job?
Calling that repair botched is actually a compliment
I just had a go at pulling mine apart after it sat around for a few years....I think I overheated the screen and managed to crack it trying to pry it open it's not as easy as some of the repair videos make it look. I wish I knew about the suction gadget you mentioned!
