I've always loved Testament. The album Demonic was special. A pummeling scathing blistering onslaught of Death & violent thrash metal a perfect combination. Great album, great band, every track is absolutely amazing. Great stuff.
Yeah, nothing quite touches this in their catalog... nothing 👽

For me, Practice is the perfect blend of fast, melodic, opinionated (name another band that wrote a song on climate in 1987, inter alia) music. Low was pretty close for me, Demonic OK when tired - but Gathering?? Not for me - I bought t at cover price when released (I never bought new records undiscounted), and it was my only Testament disappointment.
It still trips me out how much Chuck Billy's vocals evolved from The Legacy to this album and beyond. The man has one hell of a metal range.
if you listen to over the wall, youll notice a little death vocal in there! just before it goes into a instrumental break!

It’s amazing how gnarly of a tone he gets and you can still understand EVERY SINGLE WORD, unlike A LOTTTT of the heavier end of the metal spectrum.
My favorite thing about this album, the mix is ORGANIC!!!

Ofcourse they tried a little death metal this album. When you get a chance to have gene hoglan play the drums for you , you dont fuck it up. And Gene's as death as it gets.

Gene Holagn started out in a old school thrash band called Dark Angel from the mid-late 80's only played in one death metal band (that I know of) and that was Death,, but still an awesome drummer
GENE HOLAGN SOUNDS A LITTLE LAZY ON THIS ALBUM TO HIS NORMAL BLISTERING ASSAULT BUT I READ THAT THIS WAS THE PLAN AS THE WANTED THE OTHER MUSIC NOT TO BE OVERSHADOWED

love this album :) Saw these guys twice in one week during the tour for this one at some small places. At one show, the band was so close to the crowd, I could've slapped the beer out of Chuck's hand, lol
What I've always appreciated about Testament--Slayer to a lesser extent--is that unlike the other thrash and core metal bands of the 80s, these guys only got nastier and heavier with their 90s 'experimentation'. Unlike some big four bands that I won't name, every single Testament album, despite being diverse, is still the same uncompromising heavy stuff at the core that Testament has provided us with for decades! Couldn't care about the 'Big Four' -- Testament reigns above all!
One of the all-time best metal albums of any genre.
Its angry as fuck and meaner than a bucket of rattle snakes.
Its ballsy as fuck and put together as good as any album from the era or any other era.
James hetfield It may be death metal but Testament can totally pull it off. Just because it isn't what they used to play, does not mean it is bad.
Besides, If they kept playing the same thing with each new album they would be like Slayer and grow stale.

This album is pretty particular...a classic Thrash metal band delivering death metal so perfectly...not every band is able to achieve that
This ain't Death Metal, it's Thrash Metal with a Death Metal Vocalist like Sepultura. All the riffs and Vocal patterns are totally done in typical Thrash Metal style. The guitar tone is lower, but the palm muted rhythmic patterns and amp settings are 100% Typical Bay Area Thrash Metal.

Disagree...thrash and death share some common elements but that does mean if we are in precense of some thrash elements...a record is thrash. If that would be the case...then would "Eaten back to Life" from Cannibal Corpse be considered a thrash record with death vocals? I don't think so... even when it's undeniable it has strong thrash roots.

I remember listening to this from my older brother's friend riding buzzed in his car from a party, I was 12. Good times, doing you know what and what else. That same friend also introduced us to Sevendust, Good fucking times in 97!
This stuff sounds tame now but fuck I remember my mind being blown listening to this blasted on a shitty car stereo as a kid. It was probably the first time I experienced metal. lol
